Yuri on Ice Review Notes (Episode 1 Only)

Okay, so I'm still binging Yuri on Ice, but I intend to finish the show tonight so I can finish the script tonight and post my review notes on Patreon either tonight or tomorrow. So consider this a little glimpse of my notes.

I'm gonna try to get the review done tomorrow so I can post it on Patreon unlisted here before everyone sees it this Friday.

Episode 1:

• Nice intro with young Victor. Oh shit, those transitions to their older selves.
• YES THE OPENING. HISTORY MAKERS.
  • “WE WERE… BORN TO MAKE HISTORY.”
• I appreciate the show trying to explain the rules of this stuff to me, but I do not understand one fucking bit of it - and I still love it.
• Oh, Yuri suffering from his nerves. Oh I can relate.
• OH MY GOD CHIBI YURI.
• I still can’t believe Yuri is voiced by Josh Grelle. Maybe this was Tyrian before working for Salem.
• HIS DOG DIED? HE’S BINGE EATING. THIS POOR KID.
• Oh look, it’s Yurio (I know he’s also Yuri, but we all call him Yurio for convenience.).
• Awe, Yuri’s family is so supportive, I love it.
• NO, DON’T CRY. NO. Fuck my life.
• Hey, Yuri, maybe leave the kid alone and mind your own business.
  • I mean I love him, but right now I hate him.
  • That was the gayest finger point I’ve ever seen.
  • “How dare you have the same name as me.”
• I WOULD CARE IF YOU RETIRED, YURI.
• I don’t know who this Moroka is (I’m not even sure I’m spelling it right), but thank you for backing me up.
  • OKAY, NO, STOP TALKING ABOUT HIS FUTURE OKAY THAT IS THE FASTEST WAY TO MAKE A PERSON WANT TO DIE.
• Oh my god he named his dog Victor and it was the same type as dog as Victor’s. My fucking heart hurts. AND HE DIED WHILE YURI WAS AWAY FUCKERY.
• Oh my god these accents. They hurt so bad and I love it. 
  • Victor sounds like Gru oh my god.
• TAKE A PHOTO.
  • Or don’t. Okay, that works. Sadness ensues.
• Ooh, I love this animation. The colors are so lovely to look at, especially with Hasetsu’s flora.
• I know Minako isn’t voiced by Caitlin Glass, but I keep hearing Rose’s voice from her.
• Oh he ended his training. It’s okay, kid, you tried. Going back to your roots is the best way to recover from this stuff.
• “Sorry, who are you again, dear?” I love that old lady.
• Oh, Hasetsu is a small town, I see. That sucks. I mean, makes it more quaint, but a lot of towns are like this, especially with kids leaving for opportunities elsewhere (Not like they have a choice.).
• I ADORE YURI’S PARENTS THEY’RE SO CUTE AND WARM AND NICE.
• Oh poor Yuri became a “piggy,” to quote Victor. This poor kid.
  • He eats away the pain. SAME, YURI.
• AWE, THE DOG SHRINE MY HEART.
• And cue the… sister? I think? I think her name is Mari.
  • “What’re you gonna do with your degree?” THE QUESTION OF OUR ENTIRE GENERATION. FUCK OUR LIVES.
• Ooh, a castle That’s cool. Also, THE HOT SPRING LOOKS SO NICE.
• Minako is an alcoholic, my god, I love her.
  • And she wants guys. I cannot fault that motivation.
• Oh my god ALEXIS TIPTON. ALISHA.
  • Yoko is so nice oh my god.
• Nice eye catchers.
• OH MY GOD BABY YURI IS SO CUTE.
• I don’t know why, but young Victor makes me think of Xehanort.
• I love the cuts between Victor and Yuri. Yuri has such talent, it’s just his anxiety and insecurity gets the better of him.
• OH MY GOD SHE NAMED HER KIDS AFTER ICE SKATING TERMS I LOVE THIS.
• I love that the childhood bully became friends with Yuri, and the girl you’d think he’d end up with ended up with the bully. I JUST LOVE THESE SUBVERSIONS.
• Yuri, don’t do it on your own. You’ve got so many people behind you.
• THEY USED THE INTERNET FOR THE PLOT GOD BLESS.
• “You thought you could become an internet sensation without telling me?” MINAKO IS ME.
• When you wanna make things emotional, add snow. It’s the law.
• And of course we see a naked Victor. Some anime tropes you just can’t escape.
  • I like that we saw Maccachin going nuts over Yuri first, and then had Yuri seek out Victor. I don’t know why, I just find it charming.
• This is my fucking dream. I demand my own Victor.
  • MINIONS, YOU HAVE A MISSION.
