49. Frame Rate: Ocean's 11 (Feat. Katy Stoll)

Katy "Mink" Stoll joins the Frame Rate boys to dissect the Ocean's X franchise, and Michael dates the episode by making some Black Panther predictions that turned out to be wildly inaccurate.

So strange that this was SEVEN years ago! Among the many dated points in here, Katy saying β€œyou can find me on twitter” was weirdly a standout for me.

Marvel has a pretty decent track record for black characters, Black Panther is just so black he removes the blackness of the other characters, but yeah... Marvel has a good few. Don't forget Misty Knight is also in the series.

Harry Moore

Goddamnit, Blade and Falcon.... Blade launched before almost every other Marvel movie. Also Nick Fury

@Swaim If you guys ever want to do a take 2 on this series, PLEASE can I be a guest speaker?! I know them inside and out, I've made an exhaustive study of the themes and structures, and I love them so freaking much. There were a bunch of things you guys didn't know, or you couldn't remember, or you hadn't seen the films, and I was just barking trivia and bullshit at my phone the whole time I was listening. 🀣

You talked about the non-swearing in The Good Place. Have you guys seen Johnny Dangerously - a Michael Keaton film that lampoons 1930s crime films? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_WEPlSPwWu8

@Swaim, I really want to like Pain and Gain. It is a well done movie, but it's a real set of incredibly brutal murders being played for dark comedy. Bay just didn't offer any respect to the fact that real people were killed as part of this heist-gone-wrong romp.

B. King

Talking about heist movies... I’ve only seen Lucky Number Slevin a couple times but I thought it was great. You mentioned Snatch β€” do Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels, and RocknRolla count as heist movies? I love both of those. Inside Man with Clive Owen and Denzel Washington is also a good one. Also, gotta mention The Bank Job, and The Italian Job.

Steven Kirk

I am glad you recommend other media ala Kurt Vinneguys. Thanks!

OMG +1 to this. I really enjoyed Dave Made A Maze. Not a perfect movie, but different enough, and certainly fun.

Kelly Roth

To think you nearly forgot snatch and lock stock when talking about good heist movies...

Daniel van Raders

@swaim, check out Dave Made A Maze. It has great alternative blood effects.

I'm in favor of you guys taking a moment in every episode to make princess bride comparisons

Upped my pledge just to listen. Looking forward to this episode with special franchise-wide perspective and special guest Katy Stoll.

I always figured Saul was a method actor thief so he had to spend several days sweating and looking heart attacky to get into the role.

Ooh, interesting. I can see this one either being moderately confrontational, or an outright admonishing of this movie. I am honestly not sure how it holds up, this could be as informative as entertaining. Also, big ups for the Katie "Be Stoll My Heart" making a return!
