The pit returns with a special episode. Michael speaks to Jason Pargin, former executive editor of Cracked.com and the current head of video, Jordan Breeding, about self-worth and career success. I remember Swaim wrote this bleak and beautiful horror story and til I'd heard him read it I would have told you "nope, I do not care to hear people read short stories... I can read it myself, thanks" and I listened to it so many times... and I sometimes wanna bug him to let me make it into a free game or sell it and let him take the profit lol.

Hollywood and fame and shit is the dream sold to us as what we should desire. Finding something else just feels like us finding a dream that's ours.

I think we grew up with the idea that fame and success was movie and tv and Swaim is out ahead on such a good format that Hollywood is still catching up to. The podcasting format is so much more personal and meaningful and fame comes in pockets in modern media... I think the things he has done here is so much more meaningful than some "successful" things done in Hallmark. Like... would it really be better to make throwaway movies for Hallmark and be successful in that than launch a podcast network where people will make deep connections to your work as a person? I dunno. I just don't see it. Sure... there's also megasuccess that we could all dream of, but even that... like James Cameron made Avatar, one of the most successful movies of all time with more coming... who's even still talking about it? Who's finding a deep connection with it? I think expectations of what we consider success or impactful needs to mentally shift.

I’ve followed as many of them as my human bandwidth can sustain, and anytime any of the old Cracked folks shows up on another’s channel, I know I’m in for something good. This one was exceptionally good, and had the added bonus of introducing me to, and encouraging me to support, Jordan Breeding, who seems genuinely interested in working hard to bring Cracked into its next iteration for the future generation. Love Tales From the Pit, loved this one especially, pre-ordered Jason’s dumb book that I will love.

Even though I never got to actually meet you and do the podcast a few years ago it still was a boost to my ego that I was able to show my work in LA and that I could have been on your podcast.
