318. Frame Rate: The Thing (1982) (Feat. Cody Johnston)

Cody Johnston of Some More News pops in to tell us his thoughts about John Carpenter’s The Thing. The director regards this as his favorite of his films. It did terribly at the box office, but has since become a cult film, generating video games and board games in its image. Abe tries to explain why it’s his favorite horror film. The others see his point, but I don’t know, it’s good, but best? They talk, you decide!

Great episode. Glad everyone got a bit more mileage out of it considering our current pandemic and political turmoil. Classic movie. Classic Kurt Russell. Classic dog alien attacks.

Great episode guys! One of the things l like about this movie is the isolation element, even if it’s a blessing in disguise for this scenario. There’s something dreadful about being trapped somewhere remote with no help coming and no easy escape, be it in the arctic, underwater, in space, in the desert, etc. Fun ideas for simple/effective monster titles; the Creep, the Plague, Lurk, the Terrible Man, Catcher, and the Breath. No doubt those have all been taken in some form or another, but it’s not about who does it first so much as who does it best.

Kai Hardy

Ersh from Czerneda's Webshifter series was basically The Thing. She left behind an entire civilization that traveled and lived only in groups of three or more, and killed any individuals they encountered, for fear they could be a shape shifter.

Theres actually a The Thing comic that follows macready in south america having drifted there on an iceberg after the movie that ends with the forest burning down and still having no idea if the Thing is alive. Linkara from Atop the Fourth Wall does a great review Id recommend
