Movie Production Diary #6
Added 2021-03-29 13:00:06 +0000 UTCAs we recently announced, we're making a movie, and we're making it in full view of you, our Patrons.
In this episode of our Patron-only shadow series, Abe and Michael discuss a new sci-fi pitch that inspired Michael recently. Then, they discuss notes and issues with their Furry Movie screenplay and develop a plan to move forward.

I really like the idea, and what sells it to me is setting it on a farm. I think it could really color the story/characters and tying in animal husbandry imagery is not off theme at all as Abe kinda mentioned. I had a friend who’s grandfather had a retired farm. They had chicken, cows, a plot of vegetables, but they didn’t have high rates of production. Sometimes they would lease out the fields or barn. To tech entrepreneurs? Idk! Haha. Anyway that’s my unwarranted notes.

2021-03-31 19:56:52 +0000 UTCNow I really wanna see a version of Pinocchio where Pinocchio slowly eclipses Gepetto's capabilities and solemnly takes the reins of the Earth from his doddering, obsolete old hands.

2021-03-30 08:21:01 +0000 UTCThere are hints of Spielberg's "A.I. Artificial Intelligence" movie here, though your approach is a lot more sympathetic to the A.I. child and the A.I. child lacks fleshy physical form. In Spielberg's movie, the A.I. child's "coming of age" comes when he is abandoned and finds others like him (rather than through parent/child interactions).

2021-03-30 06:15:09 +0000 UTCThis is a cool idea and in lieu of actual intelligent input I’ll just suggest that in the deep fake scene — and assuming it doesn’t ruin the tone of the film — when picking the protagonist’s “favourite” video to communicate through, it could be a funny bit if the AI chose a porn clip. It could be a simple as it being the most frequently viewed, or related to the protagonist’s oxytocin/prolactin release associated with climaxing or whatever.

2021-03-30 00:08:04 +0000 UTCI found the conversation about AI quite interesting, from the perspective of a parent. When you guys were talking about the parallels between creating an AI and raising a kid (and also about the seat of perspective being created by sensory experience) it occurred to me that you might not have been going far enough, even. For example, a fresh newborn can looks a bit like a human and, as especially as parents, there is some intense biological and social programming that drives your empathy and love for the little ball of fats and sugars. But from the baby's perspective, they are the centre of a probably very confusing universe. They cannot differentiate between themselves and others (especially baby and mother/primary carer) nor can they untangle to webs of impulses that are being delivered by their senses. I suppose what I am saying is closely observing a growing child, you are kind of watching them become more and more human, which is fascinating and, I assume, would very strongly echo this AI experience that you were proposing.

2021-03-29 15:58:11 +0000 UTCI am laughing because im literally working on a comic book script that starts with the principle A.I being in a box and then basically carried around in said box because why would it have a body. And yes settling on why an ai would have its Own unique moral system that isnt connected to a human centric identity: technically susan calvin of the asimov I, Robot book was kinda gaslit/catfished by an ai. But she was told by an ai that the person she had a crush on felt the same. But it was untrue, but the robot wanted her to be happy, but had no concept of the consequences of her believing in that happiness despite the truth
