468. Star Trek: The Next Futurama 22 - A Bicyclops Built For Two

Everyone! It’s a FREE episode! We like to do that from time to time with the shows that are exclusive and this is that! If you forgot, this show takes a Futurama episode and thematically pairs it with an episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation, which works surprisingly well.

This episode David and Michael discuss being a theater kid vs. being a techie in high school, so some really broad appeal we got going on. This episode they also dive into the Futurama episode where Leela is hoodwinked into believing she’s the last of her species.

This show exclusively releases every other episode here on the Small Beans patreon. Wimmy Wam Wam Wozzle!

Hey, I’m going back and listening through the log of episodes I didn’t have access to before I subscribed. Michael, if you read this, hearing you talk about these emotional issues in the light of what you revealed in the newer 1upsmanships, I wanted to say how much I appreciate you and how your sense of humor, tastes, and radical empathy have impacted me in incredible ways ever since I discovered cracked. You are a huge part of my journey to being a progressive, and as a man coming to terms with his own depression and self hate. I’m sure I’m not alone. Also, I grew up on Escape Velocity and Fate of Atlantis :)

Also, FLCL is amazing! remember catching it on Adult swim as a kid and being mesmerized (and also thinking for years it was part of some larger anime I couldn't find)

Russell Fournier

On the 30 minute reccessitation time; Voyager later expands on that timeline to an hour or so, and even further with the addition of Borg Tech to an 18 hour window

Shopping in the metaverse will make it easier for people to interact with items and try on clothes (especially since the pandemic has made the clothes shopping experience feel gross). It will also be super useful for people with disabilities. Just wanted to let y’all know! <3

Firstly, I was shocked to hear Michael go into not one, but two separate metaverse tangents without calling out Snow Crash, knowing what a fan he is. Secondly, and less seriously, as a pretty empathic kid watching TNG, I actually fully thought that Troi was just a regular person for MOST of the series, and that the others were all just reeeeaally bad at reading the room (see anybody talking to Data about comedy)

Patrick Tillett

Really interesting takes on negativity in both internal emotional/mental states and action in the world

Agree with the nasty juice, my family would drink a similar aloe vera gel whenever we had an upset stomach. It didn’t just taste awful, but the consistency/texture was nauseatingly gross. Gave me chills just remembering it.

I enjoyed this podcast for the perspective it gave me on my relative age to Michael and Dave. I am slightly younger so I remember watching Space Ghost cause it was on Cartoon Network and just not getting it. My dad liked it when I watched it though cause he thought it was really funny. Also South Park was the first adult animated show I watched. I was in third grade when it debuted and everyone in my class was immediately watching it.

Harris Nye

Hey, Michael, thanks for exposing yourself, I appreciate every part of you that you share!

This was a fantastic episode in spite of the actual Futurama and Star Trek episode talk. The tangents and side conversation spurred by the episodes was the real meat of this one. Thank you, well done.
