561. Kings of King: Creepshow

Comments

Months late to the party again. How creepy would that be, for a guy to show up that late for an actual party? Maybe more idiotic than creepy? Anyway… This was another great episode. What stuck in my head was when Michael commented on the creepy (uh oh, there it is again) use of Camptown Races for Leslie Nielsen and especially the nautical corpses. King repurposes this idea for the novel, IT, when Stan tells his first encounter with Pennywise and drowned “Dead boys”. “They actually sounded kind of... squishy, didn't they? The sound was like people walking in rubbers full of water. Camptown ladies sing dis song, doodah doodah (Squish-squish) Camptown Racetrack nine miles long, doodah doodah (Squish-slosh-closer now)

I am that person in Ireland. I'M OUT! Bahhh, I couldn't stay mad at you guys. But, yes, 'whiskey' is the Anglicised rendering of 'Uisce beatha' (water of life), as it is spelt 'as Gaelige' (in Irish), or 'Uisge beatha', which is how it is spelt in Scots Gaelic ('Gàidhlig'). Alas, 'Celtic' is not a specific language, but a family of languages and cultures, of which Gaelige and Gàidhlig are examples.

RLM recently did a Re-view on Creepshow 1 & 2, and it occurred to me back then (a whole 3 months ago) that I can't keep track of which stories are in which Creepshow *or* Cat's Eye, and I watched all of these when they came out. Since then, I've re-watched Cat's Eye, and the RLM eps on CS 1 & 2... and listening to your KoK ep, it turns out I still can't keep track which is in which collection!!!

I did raise an eyebrow over the whiskey thing.
