Starting Tomorrow: 1-week RSI Hiatus

Folks, I've been hit with the worst bi-lateral RSI of my LIFE. I suffer with bouts of it sporadically, and I usually just need to take it easy, switch from using a mouse to using a pen, and it goes away after a day or two.

This time, I've got pain in both wrists, both arms, and both elbows. It's been painful to use a computer for 2 weeks now. It's kinda terrifying.

COULD THIS BE due to the season finales of:

All coming in the same fortnight? MAYBE! My fault, for sure.

After the Lost Terminal season 15 finale livestream, tonight, I'm going to take a week off. Not just a week off production, but a week off TYPING at all, to focus on my health.

Things that will be delayed this month:

I'm sure I'll be fine, I have a physiotherapist booked for Tuesday, and taking a week off is WILD for me, that's GOTTA work!

You're probably shouting at me to stop typing right now. You're right. Let's finish this quick on a positive note:

What should I do away from my desk for a week? I need help - everything I love doing lives inside my computer! I can't even read a BOOK.

Take RSI and your health seriously, folks! Thank you for your patience and support. <3

Audiobooks, my friend! Watch the 3 Body Problem and the many critiques on it, maybe.

seconding @Coywolf! Jealous of the trackball on the Charybdis. I am building an avalanche v4.2, planning to have it mounted to my chair. Definitely a rabbit hole I could see you going down. I am trying to live outside of the computer while being more and more effective on it but it is a challenge. I think you have mentioned martial arts on a future post idea, but I hope you are or find a way to be physically active. I have been getting into olympic weightlifting which I find very fun and compelling. It has made it a lot easier to avoid RSI type injuries and posture related discomfort. I hope you find something that gets you excited and active if you haven't already so we can keep getting videos for many more decades ;) Wishing you a speedy recovery

I wish I could just do this right now. Since moving some stuff a bit ago I've had shoulder pain, and since breaking up a fight between my dogs, I've had some hand pain (not bit, but smashed between two 80 pounder dogs) and would like a week away from using my hands and back and shoulders.

Feel better . I have taken to wearing elbow compression sleeves when ever I do long bouts of keyboard & mouse work. This has reduced my RSI flareups immensely.

Tris! Feel better soon! Some hand-less ideas: - bird watching, no binoculars necessary - musical artist deep dive (best paired with long walks) - audio books - meet with a foreign language tutor yikes, humans are very hands oriented!

Hope you feel better soon! Take all the time you need to recover, we won't go away :)

You asked what to do away from desk: Considering you may wanna offload hamds, wrists: maybe try sth new? Meditation? Singing? Walks? (audiobooks?)

Hope it gets better soon! Wish you the best. I might take a look into split ergo keyboards if you haven't already, they helped me alot with wrist pain from typing. https://bastardkb.com/charybdis/ I use this, but there are other cheaper options out there. Regardless, take it easy, let this be a break from work, experience something you haven't before, hope you well.

So sorry to hear this! Take it easy - your health is more valuable than anything else and I've really learned this lesson the hard way. Take care of yourself! If typing is the root cause, you might enjoy using Talon voice typing. Xe Iaso wrote a good post about it here: https://xeiaso.net/blog/voice-control-talon/
