Legend of Korra: New Order Chapter 2

Chapter 2: Falling through the Roof

Korra and Zan soon returned to the dinning area where everyone was waiting, the first the two noticed upon entering the room was that Jinora was seated in between Tenzin and Pema. “Korra, Zan we would humbly like to apologize for our daughter’s behavior.”

“That’s not what I meant.” argued Jinora.

Korra and Zan both just laughed as they took a seat at the table. “It’s perfectly fine,” said Zan waving it off.

“It makes sense for Jinora to be curious,” said Korra, “Zan isn’t exactly normal.”

“Clearly,” spoke up Lin from the corner of the room, “He sliced a gust of air in half, slashed a jumpsuit and cut a boulder with a single swing of a walking stick, something which has no blade.”

“Is this something spirit related?” asked Mako before seeing Zan a little surprised and Korra not reacting much, “I’m right, this does have something to do with spirits, the weird ability and Jinora being able to see something the rest of us can’t.”

Zan was impressed. “Wow, good detective work.”

“Yeah we should probably tell them from the beginning.”  suggested Korra.

Zan nodded. “Which part, should we just jump straight to the spirit world or-”

Ikki raised her hand, “How’d you guys meet, that’s the real start, right.”

“Yeah, but that’s quite a bit before our adventure in the spirit world.” pointed out Korra.

“I would kind of like to hear that part.” said Asami who was also curious.

“That was a fun day, uncle almost killed Zan.” joked Kina.

Tonraq groaned, “I was just going by the information I was given and didn’t want to take any chances.”

“What? Anyone else confused?” asked Prince Wu.

“I guess that is where we begin,” said Zan as he took a deep breath, “It all started two and half years ago.”

(Two and Half years ago, South Pole)

Zan stepped off the boat onto the docks fully dressed in warm clothes and a backpack on his back with a hilt sticking out the back. “So this is the southern Water Tribe, it is cold.” Zan walked through the city of Wolf Cove. “Now where would I go to find Katara?”

“Are you looking for Katara, the previous avatar’s wife?”

Zan looked around to see a small bubble spirit on the ground. “Oh hello there, yes I’m looking for Katara, avatar Aang’s wife, I heard she was here in the South Pole. Can you help me?”

“Sure, I would be happy to help.” said the bubble spirit as it floated down the street, “Follow me.”

“Okay,” said Zan, filled with hope as he followed the spirit down the street, the spirit then turned down an alley and then over a manhole, “Down here.” Zan then followed the spirit down the manhole into the sewer. He followed the spirit for a while until the bubble came across a ladder, “Up this way.”

Zan climbed the ladder to the surface to find himself next to an odd building. “Where am I?”

“Up this ladder and you’ll see,” said the spirit as it pointed to another ladder.

As Zan got to the roof he saw a large building across the street of the building he was on. “Uh, is this the right way? Am I even still in the city anymore?”

“This way.” said the Spirit as it floated over to the edge of the building. Zan followed to the edge, “You need to jump to the pole then over there.”

“What? I don’t think that’s a good idea.”

“You can do it.”

“I’m not saying I can’t but I don’t think I should, I don't’ know exactly where I am.”

“HEY!” Zan looked down to see two guards on the street. “WHAT ARE YOU DOING?”

“Uhh, I can explain.” Said Zan but it wasn’t loud enough.

“What did he say?” asked a guard.

“I don’t know, I couldn’t hear him.” said the other guard before seeing something on Zan’s back. “IS THAT A WEAPON?!”

Zan reached to the hilt on his back, “Yes but-”

“Get him!”

“WHAT!??”

“Jump,” repeated the spirit, Zan then saw one of the guards waterbend an Ice spike towards him.

“Oh crud.” yelped Zan as he jumped to the phone pole then up to the large building. He landed on the second floor balcony and then turned to see the two guards waterbend up to the same balcony, “I can explain.”

“Save it!” yelled the guard before using a water whip at Zan.

Zan leaned back to dodge the whip before jumping on the railing to dodge the second guard's ice shards. Zan then jumped up to the third floor and then without skipping a beat jumped to the roof of the large building. “This is not going as I had hoped.” Suddenly a large icicle landed in front of him. “Ah!” Zan looks back to see more guards. “Oh come on.” As he started running around on the roof of the large building.

“Thanks for the help, Kina.” said Korra as Kina pushed her wheelchair into her room. “I would still be a bit of a mess if you hadn’t shown up.”

“It’s no problem, really, Korra.” said Kina as she pushed Korra to her bed as she did she remembered the first time she met Korra after she came back, Kina saw the look of utter defeat in Korra’s eyes, it was that moment Kina knew she had to do everything in her power to bring back Korra. “I’m just happy I was here to help before things could have gone worse. We used be such good friends as kids, but-”

“I found out I was the avatar and then the red lotus tried to capture me and I got locked away in a training facility for over ten years.”

“And the only time you came back was when I was away on a field trip to Whale Tail Island.” finished Kina, “Then you left again after your uncle tried to kill you.”

Korra gave a dry chuckle, “Yeah I’m really sorry about that, we're family and it’s only now after I nearly died are we talking again.”

“It’s okay Korra. The past is the past, now we just got to look towards the future and-”

Korra raised a hand stopping Kina, “Wait, do you hear that?” They both heard several noises and looked up at the ceiling.

~o~

Zan had to dodge another series of large Icicles being tossed at him, he was forced to drop his backpack but grabbed the sheathed sword from it using it to block a small ice shard that would have hit him in the face. He turned to the now group of ten guards staring him down. “Can we please stop for a moment.”

“Watch out he has a weapon,” yelled a Guard. “Are you after Korra’s head?”

“Korra? You mean the avatar?” asked Zan when suddenly a loud crunch sound could be heard. Zan looked down and saw several cracks where he was standing, he followed them to the large icicles that had now pierced the ceiling. “Oh no.”

Suddenly the floor beneath Zan gave way causing him to fall through the roof of the building landing on the floor below but the giant icicles fell as well causing that floor to crumble as well making him fall again. Zan landed on his back as he fell for the second time only hearing the falling ice and a girl scream. Zan slowly opened his eyes to see Korra and Kina. Korra had bent the water around her to form an ice shield and a fireball in another hand while Kina hid behind Korra.

Zan raised a hand, “Hi.” he said through the pain.

Korra raised an eyebrow, “Hi?”

“There he is!” yelled a guard from the roof looking down in the hole they had made.

“Oh come on, give me a break.” said Zan quickly standing and saw the door out before turning to Korra and Kina. “I am so sorry about the hole and scaring you guys-”

“Get the assassin!”

“But I got to go.” said Zan as he rushed out the door leaving the two girls confused.

Kina leaned towards the door, “Is that how assassin’s normally act?”

“Not any assassin I’ve ever met.” said Korra as she put down the fireball. “Come on.”  Korra rolled out of the room to the hallway, Kina then quickly grabbed the handles of Korra’s chair and pushed her down to the grand hallway of the Southern Water Tribe Royal Palace. When they got to the grand hallway they saw Zan was dodging left and right as a dozen guards tried to catch him.

“Wait,” yelled Zan as he ducked under a spear, “We can talk about this,” as he dodged a water blast, “Can you stop.” As he then slid between the legs of a guard before jumping over a wave of water that quickly turned to ice. He landed on the railing and began to run across it to get away from the guards.

“What’s going on here!” yelled Tonraq as he entered the grand hallway on the ground floor.

“Intruder sir,” yelled a guard, “he has a weapon, we think he’s an assassin.”

Tonraq looked up at Zan who was dodging several water blasts from the guards on the upper floor. “I’m not taking the risks, bring him down.”

Several guards lined up and launched nets at Zan, Zan somersaulted away and used the sheathed sword to wrap around the net and quickly tossed it at a group of guards. “Sorry.” Suddenly Zan felt something wrap around his legs as he looked down in time to see a tendril of water around his leg before it pulled him down to the ground floor. Zan used the sword to break the water and landed on the floor with a roll. He looked up to see Tonraq right in front of him. “Hi.”

Tonraq responded by sending a water tendril at him. Zan rolled back and kept backing up with each attack until his back was nearly against the wall, “You’re trapped, why are you here, are you after my daughter?”

Zan was now very confused, “Who?”

“Don’t play dumb,” Yelled Tonraq as he sent a blast of water that turned to ice at Zan.

Zan turned and ran up the wall before jumping backwards over the ice blast but during mid flip he saw Tonraq with an Ice fist coming right at him, Zan was able to bring up the sword in time as the ice broke against the sheath and sent Zan spiraling to the floor. “Ow.” wheezed Zan as he tried to stand only to see he was surrounded by Water Tribe warriors.

Suddenly a burst of fire hit between Zan and Tonraq, “Stop!” yelled Korra as Kina pushed her chair forward from the hallway elevator. “Everyone just stop!”

“Korra, let us handle this,” said Tonraq, “You’re still recovering.”

“Dad, I don’t think this guy is an assassin.”

“I’m not,” said Zan as he moved to a sitting position. “I’m not here for a fight.”

“Then why are you here?” asked Korra.
Zan turned to Korra, “Well for starters where is here anyway?”

Everyone looked at Zan confused, “You're inside the Southern Water Tribe Royal Palace.” said Kina.

“WHAT!” yelled Zan in shock, “Why am I in a palace, why did that spirit bring me here?”

“Spirit?” said Korra in confusion.

“Because you asked for my help silly.” said the bubble spirit as it appeared in front of Korra. “Now that you are here, you can ask the avatar for help finding Katara.”

“Katara!? You came here looking for Katara?” asked Korra.

“Yes, I’m from the Earth Kingdom, I’m not from around here and the spirit offered to help me, it led me through the sewers to here. I had no idea I was even at the Royal Palace.” Said Zan before realizing something, “Wait, he called you Korra, are you the avatar?”

Korra couldn’t help but laugh, “You had no idea you crashed into my bedroom?”

Zan stood up straight and gave an apologetic bow, “I am so sorry,” he then dug into his pocket for his coin pouch, “Um I can pay for it.”

“That’s not a lot of money.” pointed out Kina.

“Or work it off,” said Zan with a nervous smile.

Tonraq stepped forward, “Why do you need to see lady Katara?”

“I have something I need to return to her,” said Zan.

“Really,” said a gentle voice, they all turned to see lady Katara and Senna walking toward them. “And what was so important that you came all the way from the Earth Kingdom to return to me?” Katara got everyone's attention as even Korra was surprised to see her. “Your parents wanted to speak with me about your recovery, sorry it took me so long, I had an emergency patient to tend to.” Before returning her attention back to Zan. “Now what exactly have you brought with you young man?”

“I came to bring you this,” Zan then bowed and presented the sheathed sword to Katara.

“A sword, I’ve never-” Katara gasped as she saw the old handle of the blade, Zan then slightly unsheathed the blade revealing its dark color, “The Space Sword.”

“The Space Sword?” asked Tonraq in confusion.

Katara placed a hand on the blade. “My brother's blade, the first one he had ever forged.”

“The same sword Sokka lost during Sozin’s comet,” Korra smiled as she realized what it was, “This is Sokka’s sword.”

Katara began to tear up as she looked at the blade, “I never thought I would see this sword again, after the war my brother briefly looked for it but could never find it.”

Zan nodded, “I was able to find it one day, while traveling making a delivery to a coastal village near the Wulong Forest, I got lost and found it sticking in the top of a tree. I was able to climb up and bring it home with me, when I showed everyone what I had found, old man Lee recognized the blade, he was a fire nation soldier who was present on the day of Black Sun and Sozin’s comet, he knew it belonged to Sokka and that he could never find it.” Zan then sheathed the blade and bowed, holding the sword out for Katara to take, “This sword has helped me out for a while but it does not belong to me, it belongs to Sokka, as his living relative it belongs to you now, Lady Katara.”

Katara whipped a tear away and looked at the sword and gently pushed it back to Zan who looked up in confusion at her, “While I am Sokka’s sister, I believe the person who should receive this blade is my nephew, Hakoda.”

“Hakoda, where is he, is he somewhere here in the Southern Water Tribe?” asked Zan.

“No, he’s in the Fire Nation,” said Katara receiving quite a few surprised looks from the room, “My nephew took to sword fighting much more than my brother did, he now runs the school that Sokka and his master Piandao created there.”

Zan thought for a quick moment before setting a new goal. “Then it looks like my next stop is the Fire Nation.”

“You’re going to the Fire Nation?” asked Katara in a bit of surprise.

“Yes ma’am,” said Zan as he thought for a moment, “It might take a while, but I should be able to get the money doing some odd jobs around the South Pole, maybe I can find a ship heading that way and I can earn a spot while working.”

Katara couldn’t help but laugh at Zan, “You are truly a kind young man.” Katara then thought for a moment, “Maybe that’s where Korra needs to go?”

“What?” Korra raised an eyebrow, “You want me to go to the Fire Nation?”

“Lady Katara, Korra is still recovering, should she really be traveling at this moment?” asked Tonraq.

“Not on her own of course,” said Katara, “It has been quite awhile since I’ve seen my nephew and I am quite curious about the healer that healed Korra a year ago before Harmonic Convergence.”

“The Fire Nation Priestess.” Korra as she remembered the old lady that helped her and gave her a sky bison to return to her friends. “Yeah she had that weird firebending technique to feel my chi.”

Kina hummed for a moment, “Water bending is the most known for healing but other bending might have something that might help you and your condition, like when you told me about your friend Lin being healed by that metalbending acupuncturist.”

“But hold on now,” said Tonraq, going into father mode, “We just met this guy, who was foolish enough to walk right into our home by a spirit and you want to travel with him to the Fire Nation.”

Senna put a hand on her husband's shoulder, “Our daughter is the Avatar she can handle herself, not to mention she isn’t going alone. Katara will be with her” she then noticed her niece looking disappointed, “And so will Kina.”

Kina perked up, “I can go as well?”

“You’re a growing young lady Kina, you should be able to travel as you wish now, I’ll talk to my sister and make sure that overprotective father of yours understands.” said Senna.

Kina ran and hugged her aunt. “Oh thank you, thank you, thank you.”

Zan just watched the scene in a bit of confusion and it showed, “You alright there Zan?” asked Korra.

“Just a little surprised I guess, I kind of expected this to be a solo journey for me, I wasn’t expecting to bring anyone along with me.” said Zan, “Not that company isn’t welcomed, I just didn’t expect it.”

Korra gave a light chuckle, “Trust me a lot of things happen on adventures like this, you just got to go with the flow sometimes.”

“I’ll remember that,” said Zan before scratching the back of his head, “So do I still need to fix the hole in the roof or….”

~o~

(Present)

“And that’s how we met, he fell through my roof,” said Korra ending the story. “And that started a journey for us all the way to the Fire Nation.”

“You guys went to the Fire Nation?” asked Meelo.

“Wait, we have family in the Fire Nation?” asked Ikki in suprised.

“Yeah we do?” said Jinora as she tried to remember, “It’s been a long time but we have cousins who live there but we never really see them.”

Tenzin looked uncomfortable, “That’s because…well….”

“It’s a complicated situation,” finished Pema who also looked a bit down and nervous as she clearly was aware of the situation.

“Yeah and I don’t think we helped.” said Zan.

Korra's face was a mix of nervousness and annoyance, “Which I would like to apologize ahead of time, I really did not think that would happen.”

Kina put down her empty tea cup, “You two created a monster.”

“Hey we were just trying to be…. Encouraging.” said Korra in defense.

Zan put hand on Korra’s shoulder. “We didn’t know that would happen, I mean….we just…wanted to help.”

Kina’s face remained neutral, “Yeah well ‘help’ almost got us killed and still wants to kill the both of you.”

“Kill is a strong word,” argued Zan, “I would like to think…that…”

“That it is just a phase and hopefully it fades with time.” Finished Korra with her trademark ‘I screwed up nervous smile.’

Everyone gave Korra a worried and confused stare. “Korra, I think you should tell us now about what happened so we might know what's coming.” suggested Asami.

“Before it comes to try and kill us.” add Mako bluntly.

Korra and Zan glanced at each other for a moment not sure what they should say, “Hey now, let’s all calm down,” said Pema with a calm motherly voice, “We all got back together after three years, I’m sure we can go one night without worrying about some world ending event.”

“We got a problem,” said Lin as she walked into the room, “I just got a call from one of my officers that was sent to the post office and apparently the office workers are begging for help, specifically the avatar’s to help.”

Korra stood up with a firm look on her face, “Ok, I don’t know if there's going to be a fight but-”

“I’ll come along,” said Kina, “I’ve wanted to look around the city for a while now.”

Zan stood up, “I’ll grab my sword.”

“Hey, you ain’t leaving us out,” said Asami as she stood up.

“I’m still a part of the force you know.” said Mako

“Not just team avatar,” said Lin as she turned to Raiko, “I believe all of us should go, Mr. President.”

President Raiko raised an eyebrow, “Alright then, I was planning on talking to them anyway about this situation.”

“Same here.” said Tonraq, “I believe we all have some questions for them.”

~o~

Soon the large group found themselves at the Republic city post office, a large building that was the hub for all Republic Cities mail. The building was currently being surrounded by several police officers, who led the group through, “Chief,” saluted an officer, “The office workers are inside but they’re all in a state of unrest.”

“I thought they were cooperating?” asked Lin.

“They are but some of them keep saying that something is coming for them.” said the Officer, “I think someone maybe targeting them ma’am, the second we said the Avatar was back in the city, they practically begged to see her, saying that if they didn’t they would die.”

“Where are they?” asked Korra.

“This way.” said the officer as he led them to the back office. “It was strange when we arrived and saw so many people here at this hour but when we mentioned that the Avatar was missing mail, they begged us to call all of you, they even called all their co-workers and they immediately showed up.”

There stood several office workers with bags of mail, an older man with a mustache turned to them and immediately walked towards Korra, “Avatar, thank goodness you came, you have to help us, he’s going to kill us, he’s going to kill us all.” he began to yell.

“Whoa slow down, who’s going to kill you?” asked Korra.

“The guy who had us steal the mail, but don’t worry we have all your mail right here,” said the office manager pointing to the bag of mail. “We even tried to organize it a bit.”

Korra looked at the bags filled with letters, “Wait this is all my mail?” asked Korra before walking towards the bags and recognized the envelopes, “This is all the letters I sent out.” Korra then dug through the bag grabbing the letters and noticed that they were opened. She turned to the manager with an angry expression, “You opened my mail!?”

The manager shrinked back a little, but a tall officer worker stepped forward, “Yeah, but it was a great story, I loved the part with the tree spirit, oh and the fight with those mercenary guys, it felt like I was reading a script to a mover.”

Korra stood up tall with an angry look on her face, “You read all of my stories that were supposed to go to my friends!”

The tall office worker looked a little nervous. “Not all of them, uh just the stuff I was allowed to read in the spare time, I was actually told to read the stuff from Mako first.”

Mako’s eyes went wide, “Wait, what?”

“Yeah I was told to double check all of your letters first.” Said the tall officer worker as he reached back and grabbed a different bag, “See here’s all the letters you sent down to the Avatar, I have them all right here.”

“Wait just a second,” said Asami as she stepped forward, “Those are my letters.”

“Uh yeah we were ordered to confiscate all letters going to the Avatar.”

“You confiscated all of our letters?” asked Tenzin.

“You jerks,” yelled Meelo, “Those were for Korra.”

“That is a huge breach of our privacy,” said Jinora with a bit of anger.

“Well if it makes you feel better, not a lot of us read them, only one of us read them all.” said the Tall office worker in his defense.

“I only read them all because I felt a girl deserved some privacy,” said a female office worker. “Especially after they all laughed at the story you sent to Asami about the hot springs.”

“Hot springs?” asked Asami in confusion.

They all turned to see Korra’s face turn red, Zan face palmed and Kina just started laughing, “Oh man that was a good one, I loved that day,” laughed Kina. “You were actually going to tell Asami about that one?”

Korra’s face was filled with embarrassment, “I just wanted her opinion on the whole situation.” Before trying to hide her face in a handful of letters.

“Oh yeah, that’s when you suddenly started sending Asami quite a few letters, why didn’t you tell Mako or Bolin about that stuff?” asked the Tall and clearly dumb office worker.

“It’s called girl talk, idiot.” said Ikki causing several of the girls in the room to look at the man as if he was stupid.

“Yeah, I’m not going to be sharing stuff like that with everybody, no offense Mako.” said Korra.

“None taken, I get it, girls have girl talk, guys have guy talk.” said Mako.

“Guys have guy talk?” asked Ikki.

“Yes, yes they do.” said Tenzin as his face twisted slightly with exhaustion, “Especially between brothers.”

“Speaking of brothers,” said the female office worker as she grabbed a small package and held it out for Mako. “Here, we set the important stuff aside, this came from your brother while he was in the Earth Kingdom, it belonged to your mother.”

“What?” Mako took the box that was clearly opened before and opened revealing a ring with the Fire Nation symbol on it. Mako slowly picked the ring out of the box and examined it, “This is my mother’s ring.”

“Oh yeah that’s the ring Bolin mentioned.” said Zan as he looked at the ring.

Mako turned to Zan, “You know my brother.”

Kina stepped forward, “Yeah, we met up with him while we traveled through the Earth Kingdom, we helped him, Kuvira and Bataar out a bit while we were there.”

The female office worker then handed a letter to Mako, “Here this explains it.”

Mako took the letter, “It’s from Bolin, ‘Dear Mako, how are you doing bro? I’m just about to leave Ba Sing Se, but while I was there, I met an old friend of dads. He actually hunted me down. I guess staring in those movers wasn’t a bad idea after all. He wanted to give me mom’s old ring, can you believe he had it. Dad had sent it to him to get it fixed since it broke, remember that? To be honest it’s all kind of vague to me but Dad sent it to him to get it fix about a week before he and mom passed away so when it got sent back we were already on the streets and so the post office returned it to sender. He’s been holding on to it ever since. I thought about holding on to it until I make it back home to Republic City but with how much we're moving around I don’t know how soon that will be and I know for a fact you’d take great care of it. It’s one of the few things mom brought with her from the Fire Nation so I think we got to take care of it, for her sake. You know we should definitely go to the Fire Nation some day, we found some family in the Earth Kingdom, maybe we can find some family from our mom’s side. We can talk more about it when I see you again. Love your little Brother Bolin. P.S. I heard a wild rumor that Korra was coming my way, maybe I’ll see her. I’ll tell you later if it’s true or not.’” Mako finished the letter and slowly put the letter and box with the ring down on a nearby table, he clenched his fists and put his knuckles down on the desk as smoke began to come out of his clenched fist.

“Mako?” Asami called out his name with concern in her voice.

“Why?” asked Mako as he turned to the office workers, “Why did you keep this from us?”

Several of the office workers took a step back. The manager took a deep breath and looked at the group with a face that said he would accept any punishment, “I’m sorry, he gave us no choice.”

“Who gave you no choice?” asked Lin.

“We don’t know,” said the Manager before quickly continuing, “It all happened right after the Avatar left to recover at the South Pole. Several men appeared and ordered us to start confiscating all mail pertaining to the avatar and anyone who knew her. They said that if we didn’t we would never be heard from again. The manager at the time laughed it off and refused. We never saw him again, several of us then tried going to the police, but each person that tried would also never be heard from again, if their families started to ask questions they too would have disappeared. We couldn’t tell anybody, not even our families, if we did then we all would just disappear. I don’t know how they did it but they did. Soon they reappeared and told us that we are to read all of the mail that we had withheld and told to leave all the letters in one private room and that someone would come by to make copies of the letters if they were deemed necessary. A person would then come covered from head to toe, would arrive once a day and somehow read and duplicate all the letters they deemed fit to do so with the added changes removing any mention of the Avatar, if there was no way of editing the letter it would be stored here along with any letter that they had brought in with them. This included government official letters as well.”

“What?” said Raiko loudly due to shock, “You withheld governmental documentation!”

“Yes,” said the Manager as he signaled for one of the office workers to gather a large box. “I don’t know how they got them, we don’t even deliver this level of documentation,” The Manager then opened the box to reveal several scrolls with government stamps from all across the world. “But as you can see they're all here.”

Raiko stepped forward, “These are real, this is a letter from the Firelord and this is from the Northern Water Tribe.”

Tonraq then looked over Raiko’s shoulder, “And those are the letters I wrote asking about Naval movements. How much of our information do you have there?”

“A lot,” said the Tall office worker, “We even have Prince Wu’s letters asking Chief Tonraq for Korra’s hand in marriage.”

“What?” Korra and everyone else turned to Prince Wu who had been tunning out for most of the conversation and was more concerned about his nails.

Prince Wu looked around the room before shrugging, “What? I didn’t know Korra had a boyfriend and I thought as the future King of the Earth Kingdom, it was my responsibility to strengthen our bond with the newly independent Southern Water Tribe.” Everyone gave Wu a deadpan look of annoyance.

“No,” said Korra simply but firmly.

Wu just kept smiling, “Okay, but if you ever want something more, just give me a call.” as he winked at Korra.

Zan just gave Prince Wu a massive look of disbelief, “Are you serious, you’re the future Earth King, are you not concerned about the massive breach of security this is?”

“No, why would I be?” asked Prince Wu.

“You’ve got to be kidding me?”

“Why do you care?” asked Prince Wu.

“Because I’m from the Earth Kingdom.”

“Ah you worry too much,” said Prince Wu, “I got everything under control, I’ll take on anything that comes my way,” As he threw two punches into the air, “I’ll even show you how it’s done.” As he threw a wimpy punch that hit Zan, but Zan didn’t feel a thing but Wu hurt his hand, “Owie, my hand.”

“Ha,” laughed the tall office worker, “You showed him a thing or two, yeah right , after reading how he took on the raging Gorilla armadillo guy, I doubt you could even scratch him.”

“Gorilla Armadillo guy?” asked Meelo with a smile, curious about the story.

“Oh I remembered that one,” said the Female office worker, “That’s right after Kina beat up those bandits with those new techniques from that traveling swamp bender.”

“Swamp bender?” Asami turned to Korra, “How much did we miss?”

“A lot.” said Korra.

“We’re getting off topic,” stated Tonraq, “Who is behind all of this?”

The Manager shook his head, “We don’t know, they always covered their faces, we never got a good look at them, they mostly communicated via notes or letters, they rarely ever called, the only constant form of communication was the Raven crow bird that would show up delivering a message saying that one of our co workers is gone.”

“You mean like that Raven Crow.” said Ikki, getting everyone's attention as she pointed towards a small window where a dark bird was perched with a messenger bag on it.

At the sight of the bird all of the office workers began to panic and cower in place at the mere sight of the bird.

“That must be the bird.” said Zan as he stepped forward before Lin stopped him.

“Hold it,” said Lin as she metal bended the forearm of her suit into a glove, “Just in case it’s trapped.” Lin walked forward and with the gloved hand opened the messenger pouch from the raven crow, only to find a small piece of paper, “It’s a note, ‘pick up the phone, avatar.’”

“What?” asked Korra in confusion.

Lin flipped over the small piece of paper looking for anything else. “That’s all it says.”

“What phone though?” asked Asasmi before suddenly a candlestick phone in the office began to ring.

“That one,” said Kina.

Korra calmly walked over to the phone and picked up the receiver, “Hello?”

A small chuckle came over the speaker, “Hello avatar, it is so good to hear from you.”

“And who might you be?” asked Korra.

“An excellent question my dear, a fantastic question indeed.” said the Voice. It sounded male, middle aged and happy.

Korra waited a moment for an answer but none came, “So…who are you?”

“I said the question was good, I never said I would answer it,” said the voice.

“What?”

“The question shows that you still have no idea who I am and I would like to keep it that way. The less you know who I am the better it is for me.” said the Voice, annoying everyone else.

“Well I can take a good guess, you’re the one who’s been messing with my mail and the mail between the nation and I’m pretty sure you are responsible for those pirates and mercenaries that just kept popping up along my travels that kept me away from Republic City.” said Korra.

“Very good, very good.”

Korra was getting annoyed, “Why are you calling me, what is the point of this?”

“Consider it a courtesy, I wished to speak with you at least once before you died, I had to give that much, I do respect you enough to do this.” said the Voice.

“Your whole goal is to try and kill me? That doesn’t make sense, why keep me from coming back to Republic City? Not to mention your use of mercenaries and hired goons, what is the point of that, unless you’re not an organized group or one large enough to fight me head on.” said Korra.

The voice laughed, “Very clever, what you say is true, we aren’t organized and my goal isn’t Republic City. You see we are a collective of individuals who all have separate goals in mind but we all have one singular road block we must face in order to achieve our goals.”

“Me.”

“That’s right,” said the Voice. “No matter what any of us do, we will have to kill you eventually and the odds of us doing that alone are slime, very slime.”

“I see.”

President Raiko leaned into the mic, “If your goal is just to kill the avatar then why are you targeting Republic City?” Korra leaned back while giving Raiko a look, calling him rude.

“Have you not been paying attention?” said the Voice in annoyance, “My goal may not have anything to do with the city but that doesn’t mean one of my current associates doesn’t have plans for your city.”

Tenzin then stepped forward as well leaning in, “Then why are you calling us now?”

“Silence Airbender!” Seethed the Voice in clear anger, “I will personally deal with you later, you and your whole family. That I can guarantee.”

The room looked at Tenzin, “What did you do to that guy?” asked Lin.

Tenzin gave an honest shrug, not knowing what he did, but before he could say anything his son stepped in, “Bring it on, creepy, I the Air Nation General-” Meelo was then cut off by his sister covering his mouth.

“Meelo, do not talk to the evil voice.” said Jinora as she pulled her brother away.

“Don’t worry brat,” said the Voice, “My associate may get Republic City, but I will make sure that your air temple island is turned to rumble and becomes a distant memory.”

“That will never happen,” said Tenzen firmly.

“We will see, but to answer your question, the reason I made this call was for the Avatar.”

Korra looked confused, “What do you mean by that, and nothing cryptic. I want a straight answer.”

“Well I suppose the straight answer would be a warning, you have successfully uncovered the first part of our plan to disrupt your communication, due to this one of my associates wishes to kill you immediately and while that will benefit me greatly, I will not deny part of me truly wishes for your death to be by my own hands and no one else's. As I said before you have earned my respect, including your team who have been a hindrance to our operations, your allies around the world, including the detective behind you,” causing everyone to turn to Mako, “You have plans for. Until then good luck Avatar, part of me does hope you live long enough for me to kill you and if not I will at least make sure you will be remembered. As for the rest of you, try to put up a good fight, don’t make this too easy for us. Oh and for the mailman in the room, thank you for your service, it will no longer be required.” This caused several of the office workers to breathe out sighs of relief. “Now my only remaining advice to everyone is to run and find some hole to hide in, because there is a new dawn coming and none of you will be able to stop it.” As the line cut off leaving everyone wondering who their new enemy was and what was coming next.

Korra placed the receiver down, stopping the noise. “I think I hate him already.”
