Legend of Korra: New Order Chapter 5

Chapter 5: Global Gathering

“Ah Republic City, it’s been too long.” said a man as he walked down a street, watching the hustle and bustle of the city. “Wow it is busy around here.” The man looked around at the buildings and checked the signs and double checked a map he was holding. “So much has changed in the last two decades since I’ve been here. If I didn’t have a map and remembered the street names I would have gotten lost ages ago.”

As the man was looking around at the buildings he was attracting a lot of attention mainly due to his attire. He was wearing a thin bright button up shirt that was opening revealing a white under shirt, a pair of shorts, sandals and a small backpack with a few odds and ends sticking out. Though all of it made his physic standout as he was lean but had clearly defined muscles, a slight goatee and his hair tied back into a small wolf tail.

“AAAAHHHH!” a scream pierced across the street from a woman, “Someone help that thief stole my purse!” said the woman pointing at a man who was using earthbending to slide away at a fast pace.

The thief turned into an alley, “I’m almost to the sewer, good luck catching me no-”

The thief was cut off as a sandal hit him in the gut, sending him rolling to the ground. “Kid, please return that purse, it doesn’t belong to you. I won’t ask again.”

The thief quickly got to his feet and earth bended part of the alley wall apart, floating several bricks next to him, “I suggest you walk away old man, unless you want a brick to the face.”

The man smirked, “Kids these days, no respect,” The man rolled his shoulders, “Alright kid, I’ll teach you a lesson you clearly missed.”

“Ma’am we heard your purse was stolen?” said the metal bending officer.

“Well yes, but someone already returned it to me.” said the woman holding out her purse. “A man came by right after I called you and gave me back my purse, he said he taught the thief a lesson.”

“What?”

“Sir we found the thief.” said another police officer before leading him to the alley.

“Wha…what in the name of Aang is this?” asked the officer as he looked in the alley and saw the damage, mainly the thief laying a small crater in the center. “What happened here?”

“No idea, sir, the thief is knocked out cold but alive and whoever he was fighting is long gone.”

“I’ve seen several aftermaths of fights but nothing that matches the damages here, who could have done this?”

“Now then where’s that hotel?” asked the man before noticing something, “ohh that looks interesting.”

~o~

Mako walked into the Grand Hotel along with Prince Wu before he saw “BOLIN!”

Bolin turned around, “MAKO!” yelled the younger brother. They both greeted each other in their own unique way before giving each other a hug.

Mako looked at his brother in his uniform, “Bolin, look at you, you’ve grown.”

“Yeah we’ve been doing so much, helping people, cleaning up the Earth Kingdom, you should see grandma’s old neighborhood, it’s totally changed. Oh by the way did you get my package about mom’s ring.” asked Bolin.

“I did,” said Mako in a worried tone. “There’s something we need to talk about.”

“Did something happen?”

“You can say that.” said Korra as she walked up along with Kina and Zan. “How ya doing Bolin.”

“Korra,” said Bolin with a big smile., “It’s so good to see you guys again. Bring it in.” As he held his arms out for a group hug.

“Slow down big guy,” said Kina, “It’s good to see you again but your hugs are rib breaking.”

“Not to mention we are around several delegates from around the world,” said a man with glasses approaching the group, “I believe a certain level of decorum is called for here.”

“Baatar,” greeted Zan. “How’s it going?”

“It is going well Zan,” greeted Baatar Beifong, “And it is good to see you three again.”

“Indeed,” said A military woman as she waved off a fellow officer with paperwork. “I was a bit worried after you guys left.”

“Kuvira.” greeted Korra with a smile, “How are you doing, how’s the arm?”

Kuvira held up her right arm, “Fully recovered, thanks to you. I’d probably still have some issues if you didn’t heal me up when you did.”

“I’m sure you would have been fine.”

“Maybe but what about you?” asked Kuvira.

“You three left in quite a hurry after we had returned back from the spirit world,” said Bataar. “And you weren’t exactly doing the best when that happened.”

“Spirit world?” asked Mako.

“Yeah we found this giant tree, in the middle of the swamp.” said Bolin, “It brought us to the spirit world where a lot happened, we almost died and Korra found a way to reconnect with her past lives, also we may have angered a really old elephant spirit who swore eternal vengeance on us, but we did come back alive.”

Mako was silent for a second as he attempted to process everything Bolin just said, “Okay back up, what?”

“Okay you guys are going to need to tell us everything from start to finish.” They all looked over to see Asami, Tenzen, Suyin, Lin. Zan couldn’t help but glance at the two sisters.

“Asami!” Greeted Bolin with a smile before noticing Suyin, “Oh hello, Mrs. Suyin, the mother of hopefully my still girlfriend Opal.”

Suyin raised an eyebrow, “Hello Bolin, I wasn’t aware things were going poorly with my daughter, my focus has been elsewhere, though from what Lin and Tenzin have told me things might not be what it seems.”

Before anyone could speak Bolin started to interrupt saying “No no no it's all a lie, if you do not believe me, ask you your son Bataar or Zan here they can vouch for us.”

Almost everyone around them became confused at Bolin's words but Lynn realized something.  “Why are you bringing Zan into this? I understand you brought up Baatar, he is Suyin's son but why did you bring up Zan?”

Bolin looks confused slightly before turning to his friends and noticing the awkward look on both Bataar and Kuvira faces before turning to Korra, “So they did not tell them?”

Kora shook her head no.  “We thought we would tell them when everything was ready or when they had a chance to meet up and talk things out.”

“Meet up?” Ask Lin confused “what are you talking about?”

Suyin thought for a moment and realize something, “Wait if the rumors of you traveling around the earth kingdom are true then by chance did you run into mom?”  Suddenly almost everyone's expression flinched and Zan began to sweat slightly and a few others eyes started twitching and Kuvira started to rub her right arm slightly. “I'm going to take that reaction as a yes.” said Suyin

“Wait a minute is that why you had that strange reaction when we first came face to face, did you by chance do something that pissed off my mother and she threatens you in some way.”

Zan looked nervous and cleared his throat, “I'm not saying that didn't happen but kind of.”

Suyin gave a slight chuckle “Oh you have nothing to worry about young man, we may be her daughters but we are not as intimidating as she is.”

Korra raised an eyebrow along with Tenzin “Oh really,” said Korra, “Because after meeting Toph for the very first time myself and seeing you and Lin fight I can most definitely say you are her daughters.”

Suyin wanted to argue against it but Lin cut her off. “Stop, everyone just stop. We are getting off topic. We have a more important subject to discuss here and this is not one of them. Zan, I do not know what you may have or may not have done to our mother but you have nothing to worry from us. We are not going to hold anything against you, our mother can take care of herself but we do need to talk about our information being tampered with.

“Agreed,” said Kuvira “But before that I would like to give a brief apology to you, Su. Turns out you were correct, bad things that were happening because of our unification efforts but I assure you we had nothing to do with it. After Korra left we confirmed that someone had been tampering with our information and giving out orders without our say so, unbeknownst to us several of our prison camps begin working the prisoners as slave laborers and harsher rules were given out without our say, we have massive problems and that is only the tip of the iceberg. We need help and that is why I sent out a message earlier requesting that during the coronation today we have a discussion amongst the world leaders because I feel this is a much bigger issue.”

“It is,” said Korra “You guys were not the only ones who had their information messed with. Turns out someone here has been stealing all the mail that pertains to me or the Avatar and have been altering it to further their own motive or whatever they're planning all we know is that they're targeting Republic City and they also want to kill me.”

“We have more information to give out later,” said Tenzin, “But for right now we should wait until we have all the other world leaders to discuss this. I feel they would like all of this from the very beginning.”

“Agreed,” said both Kuvira and Bataar.

“In the meantime we can discuss smaller things and it would give a chance for some of us here to catch up with one another as there are a lot of the things we need to tell each other that do not pertain to our current dilemma.”

“Oh yeah,” said Bolin excitedly, "I need to drill Mako here about his new girl July right. What is she like, is she here?”

“Oh no,” said Mako nervously, "July isn't here at the moment. I'm afraid she's kind of under house arrest.”

“Wait, what?”

“Yeah so it turns out July was actually a former assassin and she fought Korra at least twice before and she came here to Republic City to kill the Earth Prince.”

“The little area around them became silent as all of them stared at Mako before Suyin decided to speak up and say “Wow you have terrible taste in women.” While also noticing the glares from two women next to her.

“Wow bro I am so sorry,” said Bolin, “Well since I'm here now I can help you maybe try and see a new lady perhaps.”

“Oh no there's no need for that,” said Mako, “In fact me and July are still together.”

“You're still together with the Assassin lady?” asked Bolin, Before turning it to the others for confirmation after seeing Korra and Asami nodded. Bolin slowly turned back to his brother and gave him a big smile, “Well whatever makes you happy bro.”

“Actually it's not that much of a bad thing,” said Lin, “She seems genuine about turning over a new leaf and she's giving us several details about the criminal underworld here in Republic City and in the North Pole. I feel that she actually might want to change. So we're giving her a chance.”

“Be careful," said Kuvira, “I do not know this woman but so far none of the bandits we've taken in haven't been so kind as to change a new leaf, we've had several instances about them stealing from our camps and targeting our supply lines.”

“Kuvira,” said Suyin “normally I would agree with you here but my sister is giving her a chance and trust me that means a lot more than you might think so I suggest you relax and let them handle it.”

“Of course ma'am, I didn't mean-”  Kuvira was unable to finish after a loud noise was heard from the entrance.

“See  I told you it was big,” said Meelo as he and his sisters and new cousin entered the lobby.

“You don't need to yell, Meelo.” said Jinora, “We are right next to you and we are in public.” she said, clearly annoyed.

“Hi Daddy,” yelled Ikki as she waved at her father.

“Jinora, Ikki, Meelo!” said Tenzin “What are you guys doing here?”

Jinora cleared her throat “Sorry Father, We just got a message from Uncle Bumi, he is on his way here to Republic City and wanted to give you a heads up. He said he's going to be here shortly.”

“And we also wanted to give our new cousin a tour of the city,” said Ikki.

“Hi Uncle Tenzin,” said Avaja giving a small wave, “Sorry but they insisted on showing me around and Jinora wanted to come by and give you the message.”

“Sorry but it seemed important Uncle Bumi told me he really wanted us to let you know that he was on his way and he seemed really annoyed for some reason something about a sky bison going rogue I'm not entirely sure.” said Jinora

“A sky bison going rogue?” Korra asked, confused. “That's a first. I've never heard of a sky bison going rogue.”

“Yeah neither have I but from the sound of Uncle Bumi’s message he said someone else was also flying in the Bison so I'm not entirely sure if it's a rogue Sky bison or someone who is running wild with a sky bison.”

“Well any case we should go and prepare for your uncle's arrival.” said Tenzin “Especially with all the recent changes that popped up.”

“Sorry,” said Avaja.

“Don't worry it's not your fault.”

“What's going on with them?” asked Suyin

Lin smirked before filling in her sister “Kaya came back to Republic City and without telling anyone got married she has a wife and that there is her new stepdaughter tenzin's new step niece.”

Kaya got married said to you in Surprise I did not see that one coming

“None of us did either.”

Before anyone else could continue the conversation Jinora turned around and screamed at the top of her lungs “AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH”  nearly falling backwards into her father's arms as she stared up eyes wide with fear.

“Jinora, what's wrong?” ask Tenzin now immediately worrying for his daughter.

Everyone followed her line of sight to see nothing but a man entering the lobby “Is everything all right little miss?” ask the man as he sipped on the drink in his hand.

For a moment everyone was silent before Tenzin recognized the man “Hakota, is that you?” ask Tenzin recognizing his cousin.

Hakota smiled at his cousin. “Hey Tenzin, how have you been?” He greeted as he continued to sip on his drink,

“Hakota… what….what do you have there?” ask Korra nervously and a bit on edge.

“Oh, this is a smoothie. I found a stall after I beat up some thief earlier. Got to say this thing is delicious,” said Hakota ignoring everyone's gazes above him.

It became apparent to many there that something was wrong. Kuvira, Baatar, Zan and Kina all looked scared and we're staring at something above Hakota that caught the attention of everyone else in a mixture of caution and confusion.

“What’s going on?” asked Suyin.

Lin somewhat figured it out quickly, “If I had to guess I would say this is something to do with the recent Spirit powers that have been popping up.”

“Spirit powers?”

Mako then noticed his brother was also seeing what they also weren't seeing. “Bolin, what are we looking at here?”

“A big angry wolf-like creature that looks like it's ready to kill us,” said Bolin.

“He's not going to kill anyone.” said Hakota with a slight laugh, “Don't worry about my friend here he's harmless he's just shy.” he said before hunching over as if something heavy landed on his back, “Okay okay I'm sorry you're not shy I didn't mean it as any form of an insult.” Hakota then raised his free hand above him taking off whatever invisible force was on his back before dropping it to his side as he dropped it a massive crashing noise could be heard as dust blew up next to him as the dust settled everyone could clearly see a large paw print  that was roughly the size of him embedded into the ground next to him. “Whoops sorry about that. I don't suppose there's any earthbenders here you could fix that.”

“What just happened?” Asked Tenzin “What is going on?”

“There is a very large spirit floating right above Hakota,” said Korra, “And it looks like it's stronger than any other Spirit around here.”

“Spirit I don't see any spirit,” said Avaja she then turned to Asami, “Do you see any spirit?”

Asami shook her head, “No I don't see anything but judging by those who can I'm guessing we're looking at a very large and most likely dangerous spirit.”

Suyin then noticed her son could see the spirit and asked if he could explain it.

“Well this is just a guess but to explain after we ventured with the Avatar into the spirit world we were able to see spirits that were more hidden than others this spirit's right here while my scale is not accurate or complete just yet I would say is a very high ranking spirit if we put it on a scale 1 to 10 with one being the more stronger spirits and ten being the common weaker Spirits you see everywhere nowadays, I would have to rank this spirit in either the third or second tier with Spirits such as the avatars Vaatu and Raava being ranked in the first tier.”

“That sounds about accurate,” said Hakota before continuing to sip on his smoothie. “Man that is good.”

“How in the world… where did you-, how did you two meet?” ask Korra.

“Oh well you see after you guys left the Fire Nation and I went back to the South Pole to take back my aunt Katara home. I decided to go on a little Spirit journey of my own and ventured it into the  spirit world via the southern Spirit portal I went on a huge Adventure ran into quite a lot of dangerous Spirits met a few new friends and even found my father again we had a very long discussion about everything and he told me some interesting information that I want to confirm.”

“Information?”

“Magnificent!” came and eccentric voice as a man quickly walked up over to Hakota with his hand extended “Hello there good sir, I'm Varrick from Varrick Industries and I have been traveling around the earth Kingdom helping out Kuvira with her reunification of the earth Kingdom and along the way I've assisted the avatar on her quest with the spirits and I have been looking for a test sub- I mean a volunteer to help me with a very important experiment involving spirits would you-”

A very low growl was then heard across the hotel lobby causing onlookers and those not brave enough to shake in their boots. It was clear that the invisible Spirit was now Angry and a low menacing growl came. “No.”

“Sorry I don't know who you are and I'm not interested in anything you are selling and neither is my friend.”

“Oh come on it will be a very-” Verrick stopped as he saw the angry and dark look in Hakota’s eyes it was very clear that this was not a man whose patient was to be tested you know I came in at a bad time I will come back later and we can  pick this discussion up right here.

Hakota watched as the man slid back around the corner and hid behind a small girl with glasses before turning his attention back to the group. “So yeah, I talked to my dad and he told me some stuff more like a dark family secret in a weird way. He was kind of cryptic about it. That's why I was hoping when I came here I could have a good discussion with aunt Katara and Zan’s mother about it.”

“My mother!?” asked Zan, very shocked and not entirely sure if he heard the man correctly “What do you mean you're going to confirm something with my mom?”

“She is on her way isn't she?”

“WHAT!?? " said several people in confusion with a mixture of emotions on all of their faces while leaving those who just arrived in Republic City or who have been in Republic City very confused.

“My mother is on her way here?” asked Zan

“Yeah from what I was told she was on her way here right now along with several of your siblings.”

“Wait, so my whole family is coming here?!” asked Zan nervously as he began to dread what was coming.

Korra put a comforting arm around her fiance's shoulders, “Hey don't worry, This was going to happen eventually and you know maybe it's best to do this now rip it off like a bandage.”

“Yeah but this means things are going to be…. Rough.” said Zan in a dreaded voice.

“Yep which is why I am staying out of the Splash Zone.” said Kina with a smile clearly showing she would enjoy it before turning to everyone else. “I highly recommend that any of you guys who are not related to these two to stay out of this because this is going to be messy.”

Korra turned and gave her a deadpan look. “Kina, you are my cousin, you are related to me.” pointed out Korra.

“You're right I am but I'm still going to try my best to stay out of this, I've heard of what happened last time something like this happened and it seems that every one of these family reunions you are a part of ends up with the families fighting, case in point these two.” as Kina pointed to Lin and Suyin.

“Oh come on.” commented Suyin, slightly annoyed.

“They’re not going to let us forget that anytime soon.” stated Lin.

“That is a large wolf spirit.” Everyone turned to see the former fire lord walking towards them along with the current fire lord. “You know Sokka told me a story about a large bear spirit taking him into the spirit world, is that the current situation we are dealing with here?” asked Zuko, slightly concerned.

Fire Lord Izumi gave her father a confused look, “Father, what are you talking about, what wolf spirit and what exactly did our escort run after?”

“The spirit that apparently had something to tell the avatar but it flew off,” explained Zuko before turning to the wolf spirit behind Hakota, “And I think I see the reason why.”

Hakota hummed for a moment before craning his neck upwards, “I think we might want to wait outside.”

“Sorry.” spoke the wolf.

Izumi’s eyes went wide, “What was that?” as she looked around. “Did someone just speak?”

“Uh yeah, apparently there's a large wolf spirit here.” Explained Tenzin, “And he’s friends with Hakota.”

“It’s also kind of scary looking.” added Bolin with Jinora and those who could see it nodding in agreement.

“Not helping,” said Korra before turning to the fire lords, “Hey Zuko, Izumi, let’s pretend we went through all the greetings and everything and skip to the part where a spirit had a message for me and I’m really hoping it’s not a worlding ending threat because we’re already kind of dealing with that at the moment.”

“So I’ve been told but no this seems like something different.” said Zuko.

Izumi nodded in agreement, “Yes this spirit was the blue rabbit spirit that was with Bumi.”

“Wait you mean-”

Korra couldn’t finish as the door to the hotel lobby got kicked open. “Come on….stop

struggling….” said Ty Yin as she had a semi large bunny spirit that was struggling in her arms. “You need to say something to Korra, so stop making such a fuss.” Ty Yin then noticed the group, “Hi dad, Hi Korra.”

“Hi sweetie.” waved Hakota.

“Wait what!?” asked Tenzin as he looked between the two. “She’s your daughter.”

“Yeah.” said Hakota as if it wasn’t a big deal. “Did she not tell you?”

“No,” Tenzin then turned to Korra, “Did you know?”

“Of course I did, we took Katara to their dojo remember, wait how did you not know?” asked Korra as the two began to argue about being in touch with their family.

“Uh HEY!” said Ty Yin loudly as Bum-Ju began to squirm in her arms, “Can you guys just talk to this guy quick, he’s for some reason doesn’t want to be here.”

“Here let me talk to him.” said Zan as he walked over to Ty Yin and Bum-Ju. He leaned down to come face to face with the dragonfly bunny spirit, “Okay just tell me what you were going to tell Korra.” Bum-Ju then began squeaking, “Uh huh, okay….what….NOW!”

This got everyone’s attention, “Is something wrong?” asked Asami.

“No, Bum-Ju just said that Bumi is apparently right above us with Katara and that the other bison with them wants to land right now by making their own landing pad,” said Korra annoyed.

“Make their own?” asked Lin, “You can’t just make your own landing pad in the middle of the city.”

“They’re going to do it anyway.” said Kina as Bum-Ju wiggled out of Ty Yin’s grasp and flew through the ceiling. “We should go and settle this before they cause too many problems.”

“Little late for that,” said Zan.

Korra sighed, “No matter how much things change, some things will always be the same, or in this case someone. Come on.”

~o~

Outside the group looked up to see two sky bison in the sky. Suddenly a small figure jumped off of one of the bison and fell towards them before it began to spin into a small tornado and landed on the ground. “HELLO REPUBLIC CITY!!” yelled a boy that looked around the age of 12 wearing a simple tank top and martial art pants. He had dark messy hair and dark blue eyes.

“Hey Jackie.” greeted Zan.

The boy grinned from ear to ear, “Zan, how ya doin big bro.”

Before Zan could respond Lin stepped forward, “Young man, what do you think you’re doing?” Jackie just looked up at Lin and fell silent, “You can’t land that Bison here on this road, fly back up there and tell them to land in a clearer area of the city.”

Jackie turned to Zan, “Is this…”

“Yeah this is Lin Beifong.”

“Cool.” Shouted Jackie shocking Lin slightly, “Then you’re-”

“Look out!” yelled Korra as grabbed Jackie and pulled him back as another figure landed near them but unlike Jackie this one landed on the ground hard enough to create a hole in the ground. “You okay, Lee?”

Suddenly a young man jumped out of the hole, “I’m fine Korra.” said Lee. He wore a simple brown shirt and pants with clean dark hair.

“Good.”

“Hey Zan.” waved Lee.

“Hey Lee.” said Zan. “You put a hole in the road.”

Lee looked down at the hole he made in the street before noticing that everyone on the road was looking at him. “Oh one sec.” Lee then raised his leg before stomping on the ground hard, everyone expected him to simply fix the hole but instead he raised the earth around them into a wave that pushed all of the vehicles on the road backaway. “There we go, that should be enough room for the bison.”

Lin grabbed Lee by his shirt pulling him close, “What are you doing?”

“I’m sorry but mom and Jade wanted to land.” justified Lee.

“Well they can’t.”

“YOU’RE ALL GOOD TO LAND.” shouted Jackie.

“What-NO!” shouted Lin but it was too late as the two sky bison came down for a landing.

“You little brats.” shouted Bumi from the top of his sky bison as it landed, “I said we were going to land at Air Temple Island, does this look like Air Temple Island.”

“But we’re not staying at Air Temple Island,” said Jackie. “We’ve told you that hours ago, are you going deaf old man?”

Bumi’s face was turning red. “You little-”

“Bumi calm down.” came a calming voice from behind him.

“Mom.”

“Mother,” said Tenzin in a loud voice as he saw Katara.

“Gran Gran.” shouted Ikki and Meelo.

“Hello everyone.” waved Katara as she looked at the group. “It’s good to see you all again, though I recently saw some of you. Suyin, is that you? I haven’t seen you in over a decade.”

Suyin stepped forward. “It’s been far more than that, it’s good to see you again, Katara.”

“Yes, I feel that this trip will have quite a few reunions.” said Katara as she turned to the other Bison.

A young woman with dark braided hair and unique light brown robes popped up from the other sky bison, “Hey guys, can you help over here, Lee can we get some stairs here for mom.”

“Sure thing Jade.” said Lee as he bended the road into a set of stairs to the side of the sky bison.

“For the love of-” Lin was getting annoyed. “Can you stop with the property damage, you’ve already damaged several vehicles and now you’ve ripped apart the road. Didn’t your mother teach you not to bend public property?”

Zan gave a slight laugh, “I’ve known our mother for nearly ten years and I’ve never heard her say that once.”

“I- wait ten years?”

“He’s right,” came a voice from the bison as an elderly woman descended the stairs, “I’ve never told them once not to bend public property and now that I think of it, I’m not sure I told the two of you that either.” Several eyes went wide as they stared at the elderly woman. “What, none of you are going to give your mother a hug?”

Korra couldn’t help but laugh at Lin and Suyin’s faces, “I think they need a moment to process what’s going on here, Toph.”

Toph just laughed slightly. “I think your right twinkle toes.”

A/N: Okay chapter is completed and do not worry about the OCs a majority of them are supposed to be one offs or show up very briefly I just thought they should have a little bit of personality is all they won't be sticking around too long, except a core few I.E. Zan and Kina.
