Chapter 17 Sports Tornado

Izuku stood outside of the massive stadium and took a deep breath, “Today is the day,” said Izuku as he turned to the raccoons standing near the bushes, “The day of the sports festival. Stay out of sight guys and enjoy the food.”

“And please stay out of trouble.” Asked Inko, “I don't want any of you guys getting hurt today.”

The raccoons then saluted at the two before several of them began to scurry off in different directions. Toshinori watched the sight in amazement, “So do you guys have like a secondary quirk I should know about because those guys listen to you two as if you're their leader.”

Izuku smiled at All Might, “Give it time, soon they might even listen to you.”

Toshinori then remembered the times they had growled and glared at him, especially since he had officially moved in with the Midoriya’s. “I doubt that.” Suddenly All Might’s ringtone went off, “Oh it looks like I got a message.”

The ringtone went off again but this time it wasn’t All Might’s phone that was the one that went off, “So do I,” said Izuku as he quickly read the message. “It looks like I might need to make a phone call real quick.”

“Did something happen?” asked Inko. “Do you need to run off somewhere dangerous?”

“No, nothing like that, I’m not leaving today. Today is the day of the sports festival after all.” said Izuku, “I just need to double check something is all.”

“Well then in the meantime I can introduce you to my friend,” said Toshinori, “Apparently he just arrived here at the arena.”

“Alright you guys go ahead, I’ll catch up.” said Izuku.

“Okay but don’t take too long, the sports festival will start soon,” said Toshinori.

“No worries, I’m eyeing the clock,” said Izuku before his parents walked off. Izuku then dialed a number in his contacts. “Hey, Koichi, I got your message about the airport. You guys are-” Izuku froze as he heard  a sound, he knew it instantly as the sound of a spinning top. Izuku looked down the road and saw a lone spinning beyblade down the walkway. “I’m going to have to call you back.” said Izuku before hanging up the phone.

Izuku quickly loaded his bey into his launcher as he slowly walked down the path towards the lone bey, as he walked closer he realized he didn’t recognize the lone bey. It wasn’t very colorful and was strictly metal looking. “Who are you?” Izuku asked. Suddenly the bey began to move and speed down along the path further, towards a bench. As Izuku looked he noticed that someone was sitting on the bench. The person sitting in the bench extended an outreached hand as the bey hopped from the ground into the person's palm. As Izuku got a better look at the person he noticed it was a young woman who was around his age with blonde hair. “Wait that hair?” The young woman then stood up from the bench and turned to Izuku with a firm glare in her eyes, a glare Izuku recognized. Izuku began to sweat as he realized something from his past is back to haunt him. “Wait you’re-”

“Long time no see vigilante,” said the girl, “Did you really think I would forget what you did to me two years ago.”

“Uhhh, well….that was….uhhh…” Izuku was trying his best to think of some way to get out of this situation.

“MELISSA!” Both Melissa and Izuku turned to see Toshinori, Inko and another man.

“Dad?” said Melissa in a bit of surprise.

‘Oh that must be David Shield.’ Thought Izuku.

“I thought you wanted to go find uncle Toshinori?”

“UNCLE?” spoke up Izuku in shock.

“It’s me,” said Toshinori, pointing to himself.

It took Melissa a moment before her eyes went so wide she almost broke her glasses. “UNCLE TOSHI!?”

“Yeah it might come as quite the shock but this is your uncle.” said David, “After talking it out we decided to explain his quirk to you.”

“Wait, you guys are related?” asked Izuku, slightly worried about the answer.

“Oh right,” said Toshinori as he remembered something he missed, “Introductions, Izuku allow me to introduce you to my niece Melissa, Melissa meet your my future stepson and your new cousin Izuku Midoriya.”

Melissa, still wide eyed, turned to Izuku with her eyes twitching out of pure fury. Izuku cleared his throat, “Well…I did not see this one coming.”

The adults noticed the tension between the two and Inko was the first to speak up, “Do you two know each other?”

An image went through both Izuku and Melissa’s heads, of Izuku duct taping Melissa to a chair. “Uhhh…” Izuku had no way of explaining this one quickly and easily.

“Nope!” said Melissa quickly with her fury still in her eyes. “We don’t know each other, but I look forward to getting to know my new family member.” As she extended her hand for a handshake towards Izuku.

“Same here,” said Izuku as he took her hand and ignored Melissa as she drove her nails into his skin. “I believe we have much to talk about.”

“Absolutely.” said Melissa in an innocent voice but her eyes screamed murder.

“Of course,” said Izuku before pulling his hand away, “Well I better be off. The opening ceremony is going to be starting soon.”

“Good luck Izuku,” said Toshinori as he gave Izuku a thumbs up.

“Be careful sweetie,” said Inko.

“Will be rooting for yeah kid.” said David trying to be supportive.

“Break a leg.” said Melissa as if it was an order.

‘Yep I’m going to need to deal with that one when this is over.’ Thought Izuku before taking out his phone and dialing one last number, ‘She better pickup.’

Soon the opening ceremony picked up and the class walked into the field. “You alright Izuku?” asked Ochaco.

“Yeah I’m doing fine,” said Izuku as he could feel Melissa’s glare from the stands, “I just have something I’m going to need to deal with after all of this.” He then remembered the weird metal Bey, ‘I’m also going to need to ask her about that Bey of hers, where’d she get that?’

“Well get your head in the game Deku.” said Katsuki. “I want to get you ass once before you kick the bucket.”

The mood from the class went from nervous to sour real quick, “Wow dude, did you really need to bring that part up?” asked Denki, Katsuki remained silent. “No response?”

“Bakugo, I know you and Izuku don’t have the best relationship, but you shouldn’t make such comments like that.” said Momo keeping her anger in check.

“Relax,” said Izuku, “I’ve accepted the facts already, but that subject isn’t what today is about, today is about the festival, so let’s focus on that.” After Izuku’s words the rest of the class refocused back to the main stage as Midnight stepped forward with a mic in hand.

“Welcome everyone to this year's sports festival,” announced Midnight to the crowd giving them a chance to erupt in cheers, “Now before we get this festival started, let’s have a word from our student representative, Izuku Midoriya!”

The stadium then erupted into even louder cheers. ‘Fuck.’ Thought Izuku as he began to walk up to the stage, as he passed by Midnight he whispered, “Anyway out of this?”

“Just make it quick,” said Midnight as she held the mic out to Izuku.

Izuku took a deep breath as the crowd in the stadium began to quiet down. “Well I’ll be honest I wasn’t planning on making a speech today, so I’ll try and make this short and sweet. This is to my fellow classmates and rivals in this competition today. I want you all to give it your all today, do better than your best and aim for the top, let’s give everyone watching today a show they won’t forget and a show them what their heroes of tomorrow are capable of. SO let’s go beyond-”

“PLUS ULTRA!” yelled Izuku along with everyone else as he finished.

Izuku walked back to his classmates, “Great speech Izuku.” complimented Ochaco.

“Yeah it might have been short but it got me pumped up.” said Kirishima.

“Thanks guys,” said Izuku as he then noticed Kendo from class B gave him a thumbs up and he in turn returned the thumbs up.

“Alright with that out of the way let’s move on to our first event.” Said Midnight as she got everyone's attention. “Our first event today is…” The jumbo tron then spun a wheel before landing on an event. “Obstacle Course.” The jumbotron then showed a map around the arena. “All the students will race around the arena to the finish, the first 42 students to make it through move on to the next round.” The students then gathered at the gate, “Alright let’s get this event started…GO!”

Suddenly the gates opened up, ‘No warning like last time,’ Thought Izuku as he immediately rushed forward, bobbing and weaving through the crowd. Suddenly his eyes caught a glimpse of ice forming on the ground and jumped as Shoto froze the ground along with other students who weren’t prepared. “Wow you wasted no time Shoto.”

Shoto looked over and noticed Izuku was running neck and neck with him, “How’d you get through the crowd so quickly?”

“I’ve been running through crowds for years, I get it down pretty good.”

“That’s an unexpected skill.”

“Well I’m not the only one making it through,” said Izuku as he pointed his thumb behind them as several students were able to get past the ice, Momo made a long pole to push [ast the ice, Ochaco turned off her gravity, Mina used her acid, Kendo, Kirishima and Tesutesu just brute forced themselves from the ice. “Don’t underestimate the others.”

“Yeah, that's something you got to learn quickly,” said Rin, surprising the two. “Never underestimate an opponent.”

“How’d you get here so quick?” asked Shoto.

“Ancient Chinese secret.” Claimed Rin.

“RIN!” behind them Tesutesu was running full steam after them with a footprint on his face.

“You just jumped on peoples heads didn’t you?” asked Izuku, causing Rin to look away.

“OUT OF THE WAY YOU FUCKING EXTRAS!” They all looked up to see Katsu blasting his way to the lead, “I’M GOING TO WIN THIS SHIT!” Suddenly Katsu had to redirect himself quickly as a giant robot appeared from the ground. “SHIT!”

“Oh hey it’s the giant robots from the entrance exam.” said Izuku unfazed.

“Welcome to the first obstacle of the course, ROBO INFERNO!” shouted Present Mic over the speakers, as several robots appeared around them causing several students to stop in shock.

Izuku on the other hand just kept running, dodging all of the robots as he run and jumped over the machines, Rin followed him while Shoto just froze the ones in his way. Katsu was the only one to make a direct approach as he blasted the head off of the one of the giant robots. Either intentionally or by accident the remains of the head nearly landed on Izuku. “Hey, watch it.”

“Suck it nerd.” shouted Katsuki as he kept blasting forward to the next obstacle.

“Wow these kids are just blasting through the course.” shouted Present Mic, “The head of the pack have already made it to the second obstacle. THE FALL.”

In front of the group was a massive chasm that seemed bottomless, with several rock pillars acting as platforms with wires connecting the platforms.

“YES!” shouted Monoma, “This is our chance to catch up, hurry class B while those in front are slowed down due to the pit.”

“Uh Monoma, you should stop saying stupid things.” said Pony as she pointed forward.

Upheld both Izuku and Rin were running across the wires with ease and weren’t losing speed at all, Shoto was using his ice to slide across his own and Katsuki was simply flying above them across the obstacle. “ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! But but…”

Kendo wanted to punch the boy, “Seriously you thought something as simple as running across a large wire would slow them down. You’re an idiot. NOw shut up and start running across that wire.”

“Wow Kendo has it ruff, huh” said Ochaco.

“Indeed.” Momo agreed.

“WOW the head of the pack is already across the second Obstacle!” shouted Present Mic. “They’re already at the third Obstacle.”

Katsuki landed on the ground in the lead in front of them. “I’m in the lead, suckers.” Katsuki took one step forward ready to jump back into the air when suddenly he heard a click under his foot. “What the-” BOOM. Izuku, Rin and Shoto stopped for the first time as they watched as Katsuki was blown up by a land mine and sent flying back behind them.

“THE THIRD OBSTACLE THE MINEFIELD!” shouted Present Mic over the speakers.

“Do you need to shout so loud?” asked Azaiwa, “I’m in the booth with you.”

Izuku looked back at the minefield and instantly saw the path forward. It took Rin a moment but he soon quickly followed. Shoto grumbled a little, ‘It looks like I have no choice but to freeze the top layer to keep up with these two. Both of their kinetic vision is so great they can automatically see where they need to step without setting off a mine.’

Soon they were near the finish of the mine field heading directly to the finish line when suddenly an explosion erupted behind the three of them. “IT’S NOT OVER YET, DEKU!” yelled Katsuki as he propelled himself to the front.

“SHIT!” yelped Izuku as he made a mad dash to the finish line, but suddenly he saw someone was in front of him. “Rin?”
 “I want to win this too, you know.” Yelled the boy as he began sprinting to the finish as a layer of ice next to them.

“Then we’re all in agreement then.” said Shoto as he poured out his quirk launching himself forward.

Izuku grinned, “I’m not going to lose here.” 

All four of them pushed to the finish. “Oh man, look at the four of them go!” shouted Present Mic. “The first person to make it through the gate wins.” The crowd began cheering as they turned to the gate. “And the winner is…” A blast erupted from the gate as Katsuki came in with a sliding finish. “KATSUKI BAKUGO!”

“HELL YEAH!” shouted Katsuki with a hand raised in the air.

“Second place, the vigilante, Izuku Midoriya.” said Present Mic, “and behind him third is Rin.”

Katsuki turned and gave an angry look at Izuku, “What the hell I could have sworn blew you idiots away in the end.”

“You tried,” said Izuku, annoyed, “But you only hit one of us.”

“In fourth place, Shoto Todoroki,” shouted Present Mic, “Is it just me or does he look slightly burnt?”

Present Mic saw right as Shoto’s hair was slightly singed from Katsuki’s final push to the finish. “I won’t be forgetting this.” stated Shoto as he glared at Katsuki.

Katsuki just gave him a mad grin, “Whatever Icy hot, just stay out of my way yeah damn extra.”

Everyone in the crowd was cheering but Izuku could feel a glare from one person in particular, Melissa. Who was sitting next to his parents giving a polite clap but it was clear she was not enjoying it at all. Izuku sighed, “This one is not going to end well.”

“So who’s that you're looking at?” asked Rin as he noticed Izuku was looking up at the stands.

Izuku leaned towards Rin and began to whisper, “You remember that story two years ago when I went to I Island.”

Rin thought for a moment, “Oh yeah I remember my masters telling me about that one, you and Ryuga formed a small team and broke into I Island to hunt info on a scientist that was working with your father, right.”

“Yeah that’s the one.”

“So what's wrong?”

“That blonde girl up there is the one I ran into and I didn’t want to hurt her but long story short I ended up tying her up.”

Rin then nervously looked up at Melissa and noticed her glaring in their direction, more precisely at Izuku. “I see, have you tried to explain the situation?”

“Didn’t have the time because apparently she now my cousin.”

Rin’s eyes went wide and looked up at Melissa and then back to Izuku, “Uhh this seems like family trouble so I’m respectively going to stay the fuck out of this mess.” As he began stepping backwards, not wanting to get caught up in family drama.

“Wait Rin, I still need to tell-”

“Alright folks, the rest of the students qualified for the next part of the exam are here.” announced Midnight getting everyone's attention, “Since we are on a time crunch let’s move on to the next event.” as the Jumbotron wheel began to spin again before selecting the next event. “The next part of the sports festival will be a Cavalry Battle.”

“Huh, a cavalry battle?” asked Tsuyu, “But that doesn’t work for single players.”

“True, my cute little frog,” said Midnight as an image of several teachers holding All Might appeared on the screen, “You are going to team up and make teams of anywhere from two to four people. Each person will be wearing a headband that has the amount of points each headband is worth, the points are determined by your position from the last even with the last place position being worth 5 points and second to last being 10, with each position being increased by five each time.”

Katsuki looked at the chart as the numbers began to appear starting from last place, “So that means I’m going to be worth 210 points.”

“Wrong,” said Midnight with a devilish smile, “The winner of the last event will be worth a grand total of Ten Million Points.”

Suddenly everyone’s eyes targeted Katsuki who looked unfazed by the glares and when he finally noticed the looks he smiled and a devilish grin soon spread across his face, “Bring it on you damn extras, I’ll blow you all away.”

Outside the stadium a taxi dropped off a young woman with pink hair, “I wonder why he called me to come out here?” asked the girl to herself as she saw another car pull with a group heading into the arena, “I guess I’m not the only one late to watch the show, but I doubt I’m here for that. Maru is here to help her friend and to steal some popcorn.”
