Chapter 16 Enemy of my Enemy

Akame couldn’t believe her eyes, standing before her was one of her oldest friends, “Cornelia……How….”

Before Cornelia could speak another cloaked figured walked up behind her, “That doesn’t matter at the moment,” said the feminine cloaked figure. “Right now we must fight as our orders entail.” The cloaked figure took off the cloak showing her face.

Akame gasped slightly, “You…you’re an assassin from Oarburgh, the one that killed Cornelia.”

The woman gave a slight smile, “I’m happy you remember me, I’m Taeko. The assassin you killed a few years ago.”

“You two should be dead.”

“Yes we should.” said Cornelia.

“A teigu like yatsufusa?” spoke up Kurome.

Akame then collected herself and activated GYO. She then saw something. “No, there are nen chains around your necks.”

Both Cornelia and Taeko looked surprised at Akame, while Kurome looked slightly more confused, “Nen chains?”

“HAHAHAHA….that is perfect.” came a voice behind Cornelia and Taeko that made the two tense up. The figure then came into view revealed to me a tall man with long messy hair, narrow eyes and blue lipstick on his lips. “I know you,” said the man as he looked at Akame, “You’re the girl that gave me these two wonderful slaves.”

Akame narrowed her eyes at the man, “Slaves?” Akame thought as hard as she could to see if she could remember anything about this man but couldn’t and came to a conclusion. “You were watching our fights, you used nen to save both of them in exchange they work for you.”

The man just laughed, “Oh no no my child, they don’t work for me they belong to me. My nen heals them in exchange for their lives.” Both Akame and Kurome gave the man murderous glares. “Oh don’t be like that, I treat all of my pets with great care. I am Slavor, you two will call me master and I’ll make sure you two get extra meals for a month.”

Akame poured her nen into her sword, “Hang on Cornelia, Taeko. I’m going to send this man to hell.”

Esdeath cracked her ice barrier and stood up with pure anger on her face. “First Najenda catches me off guard and now some tornado bastard sends me flying into the old dining room. I’m going to kill them without mercy.”

“You’re going to get in line then.” Said Sayo as she walked up to Esdeath.

Esdeath glared at Sayo, “I assume you are a member of Night Raid.”

“Not exactly, we have a common enemy and it seems that the enemy of ours just made an enemy of you as well.” said Sayo as she notched an arrow. “So you can either help me or get out of my way, I owe the bastard hiding nearby for putting me to sleep.”

A voice giggled throughout the room, “Oh what's the matter, did you not enjoy the nap I put you in.” Suddenly a mound of sand appeared on the other side of the room before a man in rags emerged. “Tell me something, what is a hunter doing here in this backwater country anyway?”

“Business that is none of your concern.” said Sayo as she pointed that arrow at the man, “And you’re going to pay for that nap you gave me Sleep walker.”

The man chuckled slightly.“My, my did I wound your pride that much. You must think quite highly of yourself for a novice little girl and by the way I call myself Sand Sleeper.” said the man before freezing as he locked eyes with Sayo, her gaze passed right through him as she focused her nen into her arrow. “Wait…Sleep Walker is what that local group called me…they also mentioned three young pro hunters traveling in the area.”

Esdeath wasn’t sure exactly what the two were talking about but she could tell something was happening as she felt a strange pressure from Sayo, ‘This girl is incredibly strong and it is clear the way she holds herself that she has been through several hard battles before.’

The man then began to laugh once more, “Excellent, this job gets better and better. I had a pro in my grasp and I now have another chance to claim your head. Please tell me your name?”

“I have no fancy name like that, I just go by Sayo.”

“Well then Sayo you have my thanks, if you truly are a pro Hunter then your death will make my career soar to new heights.” Said Sand Sleeper.

“You won’t get the chance, Sand Sleeper.” said Sayo before noticing the temperature dropping rapidly. “Esdeath, calm down.”

“Calm down?” repeated Esdeath who was seething, “You are ordering me around after you two have been ignoring me.”

“Well of course, insects should be ignored,” said Sand Sleeper as if he was stating the obvious.

“You think of me as an insect,” said Esdeath as ice shards formed around her, “Well it looks like I’ll have to change that opinion of yours.”

“This is supposed to be my fight.” said Sayo, slightly annoyed.

“Get in line.” replied Esdeath, annoying Sayo even more.

Run slowly opened his eyes as he felt his body ache, “Damn that tornado caught me off guard, I didn’t have enough time to protect myself.” Run stood up and realized he was back near the royal hallway. “That tornado sent me flying this far back.” A sudden crash got his attention as two figures came flying through the wall. It was the assassin from earlier and another green haired fellow he didn’t recognize.

“You little green bastard!” yelled Sky in rage. “Where the hell did you come from?”

Lubbock stood tall. “Oh did I catch you by surprise. I saw you launch yourself up in the air after your little tornado trick, it wasn’t hard to figure out you were going to prepare for another aerial attack on Tatsumi. What kind of bro would I have been if I didn’t try and stop you with my wires.”

“So Tatsumi is a member of Night Raid.” spoke up Run making his presence known to the two. Lubbock’s face gave him all the confirmation he needed. Run then quickly threw a feather but not at Lubbock but at Sky’s bird, Sora. Forcing the bird to dodge and not to try and attack Lubbock. “We can discuss this later, for now, we have an enemy and his bird to deal with.”

Sky grinned, “A two v Two huh.” Sky spun around his spear as Sora began to build up his nen. “Alright, today’s been annoying as is, killing you two right now sounds down right therapeutic right now.”

Lubbock was more focused on Run, ‘I don’t know if I can trust this guy, but right now I don’t have much of a choice. This assassin here is clearly a nen user and a more experienced one than I am. I’m going to need all the help I can get to kill this bastard.’ Lubbock sighed as he got his wires ready, “Alright pretty boy, you can help but if you stab me in the back I’ll make sure to kill you before I die.”

Run unfurled his wings. “Noted.”

Leone was dashing through the castle, ‘Come on, I know I saw that massive amount of nen around here somewhere.’ She then heard a crash and saw a big hole in the wall. “Huh? What made that?” 

Suddenly a pile of rubble burst open, “I’M ALIVE!” yelled Wave already in his full Grand Chariot armor. “It was a good thing I activated my Grand Chariot when that tornado happened, that could have killed me.”

“Grand Chariot.” repeated Leone as she looked at Wave noticing the nen coming off of the armor, ‘That is quite a bit of nen but that’s not the source I was looking at earlier.’

Wave then noticed Leone, “Hey, who are you? You’re not a part of the guards.”

“No shit, dumbass and you're not the big boss I was hunting down.” said Leone slightly disappointed before all of her hairs stuck on end. She looked over at the hole and saw a large cloaked figure standing in the hole. Wave came crashing through. “Oh with power like that you must be the big boss, right?”

Wave realized she wasn’t talking to him and turned to see the cloaked figure, “Huh!? Who are you?”

The cloaked figure grunted, “No, I’m not the big boss as you put it, I was just hired to be the muscle for this operation.”

“Operation?”

“You’re interfering with my job to take down the Emperor,” said the Cloaked figure, “One chance to walk away now or die.” 

“Fat chance,” yelled Wave as he charged at the figure, “I won’t go easy on an assassin.” Wave without hesitation threw a punch at the cloaked man, he expected the man to dodge, but instead the man raised his bare hand and caught his armored fist with no issues whatsoever. ‘WHAT! How…”

“If you think that little toy of yours can beat me then I’m insulted,” said the Cloaked man before punching Wave in the gut sending him flying backwards at the feet of Leone. “You on the other hand seem like a good opponent.” The man removed his cloak revealing a large muscular shirtless man wearing the hide of a lion on his head. “Come, I could use the workout.”

“A Beast vs Beast fight, I’m in.” said Leone as she smashed her fist together in a show of confidence while on the inside she was doubting herself, ‘Shit this guy screams Enhancer, a far more experienced Enhancer than I am. He was even able to toss a regular Teigu user around without a nen weapon with ease.’

“HOLD IT!” yelled Wave as he stood back up, “What type of man would I be if I just let you harm a woman. I will be your opponent.”

“Hey buddy, not that I don’t like the whole knight in shining armor routine but you’re way out of your league here.” said Leone.

“I would suggest you listen to her, boy.” said the man. “You are out of your depths here.”

“Don’t tell me about depths to me, I’m in the Navy!” yelled Wave with pride, but clearly it didn’t impress the other two. “Remember this, villains, I Wave of the Jaegers will be the one to defeat you today.”

The man just huffed, “Don’t say I didn’t warn you, I lost once recently, not again. I simply go by Beast and I will be the one to kill you today.”

“Beast huh? Not a bad name.” said Leone as she took her battle stance, “Well I’m the queen of this jungle and you're not welcome here.”

Mine was running as fast as she could but was being as careful as possible to move through the castle, ‘Those idiots, first Lubbock uses his wires to attack some airborne enemy and then Leone runs off after sensing a strong nen presence and to top it off Sayo disappeared for some reason. Though the worst thing about this is the sudden nen that has been appearing throughout the castle, it all feels like it’s coming from the same nen user but I can’t tell.’ Mine was getting frustrated, “Dammit we should have just stayed outside, Sheele…..Sheele.” Mine then noticed she was on her own, “Dammit where the hell did everyone go?” Mine then activated her En and realized there was a group nearby heading her way. “Who are these guys supposed to be?”

Soon Mine got her question answered as a group of the strangest army she’s ever seen showed up, “Attention!” yelled Dr. Stylish as all of his men stood at attention, “I knew it was a good idea to get my units instead of following commander Esdeath down the castle, now I can show off my Stylish army against the enemy. What say you girl, do you want to face the stylish army?”

Mine gave them a deadpan stare, “You freaks aren’t the enemy I’m looking for,” Mine then quickly dodged two attacks from the Stylish army. The blade man Toby tried to strike her from behind while the knife man Trooma threw several knives at her. ‘I could kill these idiots now, or I could figure out that other nen signature are not too far away and I might be able to use these guys for that.’ Mine then jumped away creating some distance, “I don’t have time for small fries like you. I’m out of here.” 

Mine then disappeared while firing a single shot that grazed Dr. Stylish’s hair, “That little bitch, get her!”

Mine quickly ran far faster than them with her nen. ‘Idiots.’ She thought as she led the Stylish army towards the unknown nen user. What she found was a lone cloaked figure standing in a ball room. “Ah you seem to be the enemy I’m looking for.” said Mine as she quickly fired a shot at the cloaked figure but to her surprise the shot suddenly changed directions and began flying all around the room, ‘Huh?’ Mine then focused all her nen into her eyes and saw the room was filled with “Boxes.”

Mine bullet then reflected back behind her hitting one of Stylish’s men. “Uh how dare you woman, shooting down one of my Stylish men like that.” said Dr. Stylish as he and his army arrived, “You will pay for that and for damaging my Stylish hair.”

“So, your gimmick is boxes,” said Mine as she completely ignored Dr. Stylish and his men. “Not much for hand to hand are you?”

The cloaked man groaned, “For the love of…first I get a job that makes me deal with the most annoying team I’ve ever been put on, then the stupid cat girl puts me in nen jail along with those fools, then my only way to escape prison is to help the same team that got me in prison the first place, next thing I know I’m on a weird ass boat having to go to a backwater country that is so in the sticks that I don’t even have cell service, am I even on the same planet anymore.”

Mine was now confused and didn’t know how to respond, “What?”

“Now I’m on a simple assassin job that has me fighting a pink girl and the weirdest group of fodder I have ever seen before in my life.” The man then took off the cloak revealing a man in glasses wearing a nice clean suit.

“Excuse you! My unit and I are Stylish.” Yelled Dr. Stylish insulted.

“I am above such jobs like this.” said the man clearly ignoring Stylish, “I have disabled entire countries for fucks sake. I am the nen user of space, Nix. How the hell did I fall so low that I am having to take back water jobs like this.”

“DON’T IGNORE ME I AM YOUR BETTER!” yelled Stylish, getting angry. 

Nix then took a breath and calmed down, “So little girl, as you can tell I don’t want to be here and I can tell you as a nen user you can easily find a job elsewhere in a different country. So you let us do what we have to do here in this doomed nation and I’ll give you a contact where you can get jobs in a more stable, civilized nation.”

Mine put Pumpkin on her shoulder and thought it over, “That is a tempting offer, my mentors also gave me something similar, travel and become a nen user for a different place and not worrying about this country. This country really hasn’t done anything good for me.”

Dr. Stylish felt every vein pop on his head, “KILL THEM!” he yelled as all of his men charged, though the moment his men charged forward they quickly began to twist and contort as an invisible force quickly and horrifically killed them. “What?”

Nix kept his eyes on Mine, “I’m sensing a but.”

“There is a but,” said Mine, “I’m a part of a team that is trying their best to change this country for the better and I will not betray them. I might travel afterwards,” As Mine then pointed Pumpkin at Nix, “But that will only be after my job here is done and not a moment sooner.”

Nix sighed, “Fine, I’ll dirty my hands then.”

Bols slowly got up and shook off the rubble, “I wasn’t expecting an assassin with a wind teigu.” He then looked around, “Looks like that tornado sent me through a few rooms to a hallway.”

“Where did she go?” came a voice, Bols looked to see a woman in purple who noticed him, “Oh hello, I’m looking for my friends they all just ran off the moment we got here, have you seen them?”

Bols gave her a confused look, “Uhh, no I haven’t, are you lost or I guess I should say are you supposed to be here?”

“I suppose I’m not supposed to be here.”

Bols scratched the back of his head, he had never had an encounter like this before. He couldn’t tell if this stranger was friend or foe. “I’m Bols, are you my enemy?”

“I’m Sheele and I don’t think so, my ability hasn't been activated, so I don’t think you’re my current enemy.” said Sheele.

“Your ability?”

Then Sheele's whole demeanor changed as her eyes narrowed and ehr face got serious, “Though it does look like the enemy has arrived.”

“Huh?”

“Aw dammit, you're alive.” Bols turned to see a man in a cloak approaching them, “I was really hoping that would have killed you, so I could just take that cool hammer from your corpse.”

Bols went on high alert and stood in front of Sheele, “Stay behind me, young lady.”

The cloaked man then noticed Sheele, “Oh hello there, you look like a snack…hang on, you weren’t emitting nen earlier.”

“That is because I preemptively activated an ability earlier,” said Sheele as got her weapon ready. “One to use against another nen user.”

“Nen User?” Bols was confused but remembered an earlier meeting, ‘Is this what the commander was talking about?’

“Shit, just your luck Sol, an easy job in a far off land, and you run into another nen user,” said the man as he removed his cloak showing a strange army vest and attire. “Alright, looks like things here are going to be messy.”

“Mr. Bols, I highly suggest you stand back for this.” said Sheele.

“I can’t do that,” said Bols as he got his hammer ready. “I wouldn’t be able to return to my wife and daughter with my head held high if I left you to deal with an enemy all on your own, I’ll try my best to stay out of the way. We can take this Sol character together, Sheele.”

Sol cracked his neck, “Ah, Sheele and Bols huh, I guess I already gave you my name huh. Well atleast I ain’t fighting a cat girl now. Okay time for a good old fashion fight.”

“What the hell was that?” asked Bulat as he looked up in the sky.

Tatsumi was also looking at the sky, “That Sky guy was prepping for another attack when Lubbock jumped and caught him with his wires, they spun around for a second before smashing into the top of the castle.” Tatsumi then looked towards the building, “It looks like that tornado sent each member of the Jaegers to a different floor and a cloak figure followed them.” 

“And a member of Night Raid, each went off to face them.” said Bulat, “Do you think they are ready to face people like that?”

“I don’t know,” said tatsumi honestly, “Rule one of facing other nen users is never underestimate your opponent.”

“WHAT IS GOING ON HERE?” yelled the child emperor, “Are you with Night Raid, are you a traitor, is Night Raid on our side, what in blazes is going on here.”

Tatsumi looked down and saw the kid clearly freaked out and holding his injured arm. “Look, I know this seems very confusing here but we are here to help you and I promise an explanation after we get you to safety.”

“I want an explanation now!” the child demanded.

“I agree,” said a new feminine voice. Both Tatsumi and Bulat turned to the other side of the garden where a new cloaked figure appeared. “I would also like to know what are Nen Users doing in this country.”

Tatsumi felt a nervous bead of sweat form on his forehead, ‘Where the hell did this guy come from, I did sense her at all. A master of Zetsu without a doubt.’

“Who the hell are you?” asked Bulat who got his nen ready to summon his armor.

“Someone who doesn’t have to be your enemy here,” said the woman.

“Wait, that voice,” said the Emperor as he looked at the cloaked woman, “Mom?”

“Your MOM!” said Tatsumi in shock.

“Impossible the former Queen died over a year ago,” said Bulat. “They said she took her own life.”

“No she didn’t,” said the cloaked figure, “She was murdered by Prime Minister Honest, I know because I saw it.” The woman then pulled down the hood of the cloak revealing her face, “Hello nephew.”

“Aunt Morra!” said The Emperor in disbelief.

“AUNT MORRA!?” repeated both Bulat and Tatsumi in shock.

“Okay this had to be some sort of trick, a nen illusion right?” said Bulat.

“Normally I would agree with you, but I’m not picking up any form of illusion here but that doesn’t mean shapeshifting is off the table.” said Tatsumi.

Morra nodded, “Those are two possibilities, but the truth is I am Kotei’s aunt.”

“Kotei? Who the hell is Kotei?” asked Tatsumi.

“THAT’S ME!” yelled the Emperor.

“You have a name?”

“OF COURSE I DO!”

This made Morra laugh, “Now I definitely know you’re not from this land.”

“What are you doing here, like this?” asked Bulat.

Morra looked at Bulat, “I am here to end this country.”
