1.13 | De-duplication

Dropping by for another look at what'll be included in the upcoming 1.13 update. This time we're revisiting game duplicates on the site and how they'll be handled in the new release. Backloggd enthusiasts will recall the 1.9 update introduced game merging but unfortunately as time went on it became apparent that the tool wasn't built for scale. As more and more games are added to Backloggd every day, it's time for a reintroduction.

Changes being introduced will mainly be on the admin side such as auto-closing related reports when merging, making the merge process a 1-click operation, tracking when IGDB deletes a game on their side, and having an undo button in case of accidental transfers. The main problem came from having to perform 5 steps for every merge, then once game reports opened it became so overwhelming that game reports have been disabled since then.

Although that will change as game reporting will be back starting with Backers as a beta. Another change will be the option to receive notifications when you have a merge conflict waiting for approval. You can also expect the way merges happen to change, right now everything you had under the previous log would be held waiting for your approval (reviews, game logs, journal entries, etc..) but now everything will automatically go under the new game except for game-specific information. So things like the rating, log statuses, and total time played will still need your approval but otherwise the rest of the data transfer will be more seamless.

Hopefully after 1.13 launches I can also expand the moderator role to handle game information, as this can also be a way to get these reports resolved quicker.

I don't plan on holding onto these features for too much longer, ideally will have a release announcement by mid-November. But until then!

Best,

MrProg
