I think Xander is just an insecure teen guy who gets irrationally jealous of everyone who gets close to any girl he knows. He had/has a crush on Buffy, Buffy liked Angel, Xander gets jealous and isn't self aware enough to get over it. But that's just my opinion.

2023-04-28 13:05:08 +0000 UTCIn response to your speculation of what motivates Xander's dislike of Angel recall that in the season 1 finale Xander had to force Angel to take him to the Masters lair where they arrived just in time to save Buffy. Angel was going to let Buffy face the master alone knowing she would die. I always felt that Xander never forgave Angel for that.
