2023-09-01 09:37:12 +0000 UTCSomething that this show does extremely well is breaking the tension with humor, especially in episodes like this where the tone is particularly depressing. I think you’re right, Riley needs to feel needed, and buffy is too independent and I think that she changed so much, after season 4 she feels almost like a different character, she still feel like buffy but grown, more mature, tougher, and colder even, almost emotionally distant. And the change feels organic too, after everything she’s been through, it makes perfect sense. I do believe she loves riley, but of course it’s different from angel, she was a kid experiencing her first love, she’s grown so much so of course it’s different now, it’s a different love, and a different way of expressing it. And he probably feels a little emasculated, because she’s stronger not only physically but also emotionally, and his ego can’t take it because he needs to be the alpha male. Poor Sandy.
