Normally I really enjoy Jane Espenson written episodes but the characterisations of the scoobies in this one seemed way off. It was the first and only episode directed Christopher Hibler, so maybe that had a little to do with it!

Usually the buffy humor works really well for me, but when it’s subtle, here they were trying to be too funny even in detriment of the characters likability and believability and didn’t work at all, I found willow so unlikable in this ep, xander getting hit in the head with a hammer and didn’t even get a minor concussion, and buffy “fake” crying the whole episode was ridiculous, they want us to believe that buffy cared about her relationship with Riley but then they make fun of it? But I admit I did enjoy buffy asking what’s it like to be a nun and how’s the food, that made me laugh because it was very much in character, but the rest of the episode pretty much every character was ooc, expect spike who’s still being spike, and anya of course, although I didn’t like and didn’t see the point of her conversation with xander about buffy and her failed relationships at the beginning of the episode. I rank this one pretty low on my list of the show overall, and I know everything I say is a bit harsh but always comes from a place of love because I love the show very much, but some episodes such as this one are really bad.
