I don't know why Glenn Quinn (Doyle) left the show. There has been speculation, one is that it was always the plan and the other was that it was related to his addiction issues. Joss Whedon never really said anything other than he planned for the character to have an early exit even after he became a fan favorite. Glenn Quinn died of a heroin overdose 2 or 3 years after leaving the show. David Boreanaz said years later that "Glenn played a great character, but also became a really close friend of mine. God rest his soul."
