UNEDITED: Buffy the Vampire Slayer 6x06 Reaction

It took me a few rewatch to notice but there are indications of Willow's lack of respect for magic's dangers from early on despite what her and the gang have experienced. Magic is like a power tool, they're great but have to be used with caution.

If you go back to the scene in Afterlife (6x03) where Willow pulls away from Tara and finishes the corporeal spell herself, there's a moment where Tara looks concerned there as well. And considering some of Willow's attitude and actions this episode, it seems like she has good reason to be worried. Hopefully Willow gets over herself at some point. I know a lot of fans don't like the direction Willow is going in with these first few episodes, and that it is too out of left field, and not in keeping with Willow's character. I would argue that I honestly think what we're seeing so far is the natural progression of Willow as a character. She has always turned to magic as an easy way out when she doesn't want to deal with anything negative, she has always had a degree of being on a power trip fueled by deep insecurity, and she's held things back from, or out right lied to her friends and girlfriend about her magic use on more than one occasion.

From the time it first aired season 6 has always been my favourite season. Prior to Buffy season 6 I had never really seen a TV series deal with things like trauma and depression the way that Buffy did. Back then it was more like, 'A very special episode', or you'd get one or two episodes of a character acting very stereotypically depressed, and then there'd be some big kumbaya moment where they'd agree to get help, and except for maybe a throw away line later on it was never really mentioned again. Buffy did something different, and I freaking adore this season for that.
