In 2003 Joss Whedon said "The thing about a hero, is even when it doesn't look like there's a light at the end of the tunnel, he's going to keep digging, he's going to keep trying to do right and make up for what's gone before, just because that's who he is." I think the final line of Angel is very much in keeping with that sentiment ("Let's go to work") and also speaks to the overarching theme of the series: if nothing that we do matters, then all that matters is what we do. Btw, Angel, Wesley, Spike, Gunn, and Illyria reappear after the events of 5x22 in Whedon's canonical IDW comic, "Angel: After the Fall". Joss Whedon including everyone else was taken by surprise when they cancelled the show and didn't renew it for a 6th season like everyone thought would happen. I read that some things they had planned for season six was Nina was going to come back more permanently as Angel's gf, and they were gonna have Oz come to help her with the werewolf thing.. And they were planning to have Willow come and help them with Illyria by either to help Illyria herself or split them apart so that Fred would be alive again.. But they unfortunately weren't able to do that. Although, like with Buffy Whedon made season 6 a comic book that starts off right where season 5 ended. And it's kind of interesting coz I read something about Angel with a dragon.. coz one of the last things he said "I would really like to slay the dragon.." And interestingly enough I learned that Charmed was actually extended into a 9th and 10th (possibly more seasons) via comic book as well. And there's also a comic book series called "Angel and Faith," which is about them.

I know the analysis that you should read this as "they're all going to die, and all that matters is what we do," and so forth. And I read the comic book continuation. But I have my own idea of what happens next, and it's a lot more upbeat. 😁 ... This is a worthy ending to a great series, and a great "universe." ... Nice reference to Xena when it comes to fighting whilst carrying an infant. I'm still a little bummed that you didn't tackle Hercules and Xena together (I only mention it because others were discussing new shows for you) but I think that, even solo, Xena will provide you with a rich experience. 👋🏻
