Ah, Xena was definitely heartbroken. I think it had less to do with grabrielle's words (although they were poorly worded), and more just to do with her being super bummed gabrielle was leaving.
I think Gabrielle meant she couldn't speak to xena about it and had to speak to family, because xena wouldn't understand. Xena was born with warrior instincts, and was warlording by 16. She wouldn't understand the freezing up/panicking that a regular ex provential town girl learning this for the first time would feel. But her sister/family would because they're regular folk too. Loved her bonding with her sister and gabrielle bringing out the best in Maleager. She has that effect.
Its super fascinating to see how attached Xena is now to gabrielle compared to the first episode lol. Xena couldnt even last however many days before she doubled back to see how gabrielle was doing in Poteidaia. #whipped

“That had me freaking out for a second”.
I like how she clearly made Talis the father of her little pregnancy story. She said that it’s a sad story which began with King Sisyphus. So I’m guessing Talis died even in her story but before he did - they hooked up and she got pregnant with his child. I think he would have liked that. Kind of sweet to be honest.
It’s the little details in this show. 😚

“But you’re coming back right?” And this is how I knew that even in the first episode she was going to be so whipped over Gabrielle that she’d practically beg her to tag-along. She didn’t play the “nah, I don’t really want you around” plot very well. I saw right through her

Tim Thomerson as Meleager the Mighty! He does a great job. This is a Xena-lite episode. There were different reasons why this would be necessary, but this one was most likely due to the annual NATPE convention, which was a big deal for syndicated television, and was attended by Lucy Lawless and Kevin Sorbo, representing Xena and Hercules. Luckily, Renee O'Connor was more than capable of carrying an episode on her own. Kudos to you on recognizing the old guy driving the cart from the first episode!
