Crusie does a deep dive into into all the elements that made Cordelia such a brilliant and beloved character, and she discusses how the show's writers destroyed the character (mind you, this essay was published long before the revelations about Joss Whedon's abuse of Charisma Carpenter were made public). I especially liked the concluding paragraph: "She grew and changed but she was never anything but Cordelia Chase until the writers were corrupted by the Beast and betrayed her and the viewers who loved her. As a cautionary tale, the Character Assassination of Cordelia Chase is tragically invaluable.
