2024-08-23 21:08:23 +0000 UTCI don't know what Joseph Murray played Sinbad in, but I am pretty sure that this was a reference to the Sinbad TV show. (They mention it again in HtLJ season 4.) The Sinbad in that show was played by Zen Gesner.

2024-08-23 20:56:52 +0000 UTCOh no, this is definitely subtext. Especially considering what’s to come. Xena is a canon bisexual character. We all know that. She was depicted as that even before meeting Gabrielle. Gabrielle on the other hand, - well it’s debatable - but they certainly depict her as bisexual too since she appears to be attracted to women and men. But she could be pan. Into all humans beings no matter the gender identity. Which sounds right for Gabrielle.

2024-08-23 20:42:07 +0000 UTCI believe the guy who plays the Romeo character played Sinbad in a TV movie so I’m sure mentioning it was a nod to that. But not a lot of people know it.

2024-08-23 20:41:03 +0000 UTC‘Been There, Done That’ is a fan-favourite comedy episode and for good reason. Xena and Gabrielle wake up in a barn when Joxer walks in with goose eggs for their breakfast. At first everything seems to be normal. Just another day in their travels. However, when Joxer gets killed in the town civil war and then appears the next day, Xena realizes the day is repeating itself in a funny and clever spoof of Bill Murray’s classic, ‘Groundhog Day’. Thus, hilarity ensues, and everyone except Xena doesn’t realize that anything out of the ordinary is happening at all. Lots of camp, a lovely hurt/comfort moment between Xena and Gabrielle, and subtext about a hickey. It’s not only one of the funniest episodes of the whole show, but also one of the cleverest, as it throws you for a loop… literally. A time-loop. It’s definetly one of my favourite comedy episodes. I can tell you’re really liking Season 3 already. But there’s so much more to come that really makes this season top-tier. We’re talking ‘BtVS S5’ top-tier. Not only do they get the balance of drama and comedy so right, but they manage to propel the lead characters’ arcs forward at the same time. And it makes for some incredible TV art/entertainment that’s ever graced the small screen and that I have personally ever seen. You’re really in for a great experience, Kassidy. I can’t wait to watch your reactions.

2024-08-23 20:35:10 +0000 UTCI love the Hercules joke, and the subsequent mention of Sinbad was probably a reference to The Adventures of Sinbad, one of the many Hercules copycat shows (Xena was produced to beat them all, including Sinbad, to the punch.) ... This is one of the standout comedy episodes, and though not everyone likes it, many do, and I'm one of them. ... The hickey joke, with Xena's awkward silence and Gabby's look-away, was also one of the more famous subtext gags.
