2024-09-07 18:59:46 +0000 UTCWhat mother could be objective about their child? You’d have to be a pretty rotten mother to not put their well-being and safety over all else. It’s totally understandable. A very natural and organic conflict and drama. Figures it would be a baby that would come between them and not a man because what woman wouldn’t put the life of a baby first? Especially their own. It really works that they did this. That they made the negative aspects of their relationship over maternal instinctual differences and not something as cliche and overdone as a love interest. Because that’s silly for a friendship as deep as theirs is.

2024-09-07 14:26:58 +0000 UTCOooh wee. Gabrielle LIED big time to Xena 😬. I like how you feel for gabrielle. I think some can be too quick to understand Xena's objectivity over the baby being evil, but Gabrielle obviously can't be objective and that's completely understandable to me. She shouldn't have lied though...

2024-09-07 13:45:34 +0000 UTCI love the possibly intentional parallel to ‘Cradle Of Hope’ with this episode. In that episode Gabrielle questions why anyone would send a baby down the river and Xena says “maybe she had a reason” and here in this episode - this is exactly what Gabrielle does - because she had a reason. To protect it from Xena. Plus the whole Pandora’s Box thing of which Gabrielle accidentally opened. Maybe hope did escape from it after all and Gabrielle became its vessel instead. But the real question in this parallel is whether Hope actually represents the theme of ‘hope of mankind’ rather than the destruction of it. Jury’s still out on that one. GABRIELLE: “My Hope. Please… be good.” This is one of the most riveting arcs throughout the entire show. You’re really getting into the meat of Xena now. So sit back, relax and have a bowl of sheep-lard fried chicken gizzards while you’re at it.

2024-09-07 13:34:15 +0000 UTCYou're right, that WAS a good episode, and a good companion to "The Deliverer." ... Whoever the king who stuck that sword in the rock was, it wasn't Arthur. And, despite the intentions at the time of the episode, it probably isn't Excalibur, and the Knights of the Pierced Heart problem aren't the Knights of the Round Table, although that's less certain. Not that any of that's super important. ... Nice mention of Hercules by Gabby (he would have been helpful here.) Xena was kind of funny spoiling for a girl fight with the banshees. ... Gabby's funny with her various hankerings for unusual delicacies, but there isn't much more humor in this dark escapade of portents and mystical pregnancy. The delivery of Hope, and the ominous goat, stands out.
