2024-05-21 18:13:01 +0000 UTCOh I agree. Callisto is fantastic. Sure she may be a bit unhinged but we love her that way. That just makes her even more interesting. And it's not that she was the even the first villain in "superhero" history to be a little crazy, but Hudson was just so good at it. I'm glad she was able to pull from that dark time in her life and use it for her character. I had no idea she was going through stuff.

2024-05-16 21:45:06 +0000 UTCHudson Leick, the actress for Callisto, said that during the time of filming, she was going through a lot of dark stuff in her life, and that she had a darkness in her. And she said that darkness showed it in her acting. That makes the acting for Callisto very authentic and different from other villain characters, which is super cool.

2024-05-16 01:54:38 +0000 UTCJust finished this and wow... So many things. One of the best. I think you really get to see a deeper side to not only the show itself, but also Xena and Gabrielle. And we're still just scratching the surface at this point. There are so many layers to peel through season after season. Xena is absolutely a protagonist but throughout her adventures we get to see how she handles the misdeeds of her past whenever they come back to haunt her. We also get to learn what took her down the path that earned her the reputation she has; and we see how she evolved to her current mindset. Gabrielle is so dedicated to ensuring that Xena stays on her current path. She knows Xena is a dangerous woman, but believes in Xena's capability to to so many good things. I've always thought the show was just as much about Gabrielle's evolution as Xena's, so it was good to see the two of them really talk it out over the campfire. Out of curiosity I do wonder if Xena *would* have reverted if Gabrielle wouldn't have talked to her (assuming Callisto got her way and killed everyone.) Great to see Callisto and Joxer for the first time! He's kind of a bumbling buffoon most of time, but he'll always be there to Gabrielle and Xena. I could write more on Callisto alone, but there's so much. I'll just say I still believe she is one of the best villains ever.

They needed a threat that kept Xena on her toes and it wasn’t going to be a male villain. Everything you need to know about Callisto is communicated when she said “There was a part of me that had hoped you would win and put out the rage in my heart. Sometimes it even scares me. But then I get over it." There’s only one thing this crazy chick is living for. Vengeance. That’s her theme and it’s a very compelling one to explore when it comes to Xena and Callisto’s relationship.

2024-05-15 18:45:47 +0000 UTCI tend to think of Gabrielle as a strawberry blonde (someone called her a cherry blonde, but we're getting outside my limited knowledge of hair AND fruit.) Anyway, this episode is many fans' pick for the best of season one. Callisto, played by Hudson Leick, is very effective. Ted Raimi, who played Joxer, is the brother of executive producer Sam Raimi. ... The campfire exchange between Xena and Gabrielle is a highlight. (It's entirely appropriate that Hercules is mentioned along with Gabby and Xena's mom; that a proper nod in this stellar scene.) ... I always think it's funny when Gabby tells Joxer to "do something!" Like what, Gab? ... The ladder fight is more Hong Kong martial arts goings-on. ... I don't know what you were calling a yodel, Xena's ululation or Callisto's scream, but I like them both. Thanks for the early post!
