Several Buffy references/influences this episode. Now that we've officially met Abel Koontz, I'll say that the actor played the demon Balthazar in Buffy season 3 episode Bad Girls. V's purity test stating she pleasures the swim team is giving Go Fish. And there's a suspiciously African looking face mask by the Mars's front door that's giving "Do you like my mask? Isn't it pretty? It raises the dead" vibes. As to other pop culture references: Lizzie's: "Meg never got thrown out of summer camp for waking up in the swim coach's cabin" is a reference to the movie Little Darlings. And Wallace's mom played Coco in the TV series Fame.
