Fun fact, well not sort of fun fact but still hah The Roman solider who breaks Xena's legs on the beach is actually one of Lucy Lawless' brothers, Dan Ryan (Her real last name is Ryan)

You can see how these moments have such a big effect on her path in life. Also, I've noticed how "bad" Xena falls for things "good" Xena would never fall for. It's actually funny. 😂 I guess that's called growth.

I'd say this is a fantastic episode. I always gotta love Karl - good to see him again in his new Caesar role. I always loved how he portrayed this character. I mean sure, Caesar is among the scummiest of assholes but I know it's always gonna be a good episode if he shows up 😂.

2024-07-13 20:42:31 +0000 UTCThis to me is such a core episode (as well a few more to come) to understanding how Xena became & becomes the Xena we know. The xena we meet in episode 1 is a wise, worn, stoic warrior who keeps her emotions close to her vest. But at heart, i think she feels a ton at the extremes and is often driven by her emotions...good and bad here. We can see the bad here in how her hatred/embarrassment at the hands of Caesar drives her to become ruthless and descend into her lowest evil. Bonus, this episode also is a nice encapsulation of Xena discovering her two romantic types in Caesar and M'lila. She has the softest of soft spots for ruthless ambitious men and brave pure hearted women. Quite a through line.

That’s what left her vulnerable to be hit by that tree trunk. Did you notice the shirt M’Lila wore as well? It has the design of Xena’s breastplate. Obviously inspired by her. Amidst all the betrayal in her life, she always had loyal female companions. Even if she didn’t always treat them in the best way. And no, the spirit of M’Lila didn’t possess Xena then. Xena wanted vengeance for the death of her. Xena’s sudden declaration that her new purpose in life is ‘death’ is meant to be representative of her descent into true evil. And of course it would be vengeance that fuels it as it always was from the beginning with Cortese attacking her homeland. It was always about protecting and defending something or someone. The problem is that truth can become very twisted when the only thing you can think about is revenge. Hence, the nod to Callisto.

2024-07-13 15:53:43 +0000 UTCI strongly feel its best to watch that Herc episode before even Destiny. But she may not elect to watch it at all, which would bum me out, but oh well, it's her Patreon page.

2024-07-13 15:17:51 +0000 UTCIf you're gonna watch the Hercules crossover coming up soon, I would say to wait until AFTER you finish 2x14. Some of the reactors I've seen watch the Hercules episode first, and I think it's spoils. I think it's best to be confused in Xena first, then have the confusion answered in Hercules, because it sparks curiosity, IMO.

2024-07-13 15:05:21 +0000 UTCWell, yes, that is a good episode. ... The story of Julius Caesar being ransomed by pirates, and then later having those pirates crucified, is taken from real life. ... Nathaniel Lees is always good. ... The injuries to Xena getting hit by a tree are among the most serious and realistic in the show. ... I like your response to the To Be Continued.
