I love that theory! The friendship between Gabrielle and Aphrodite is one of my favorite side story's of the show. Honestly, I love all the dynamics of all the characters, but there is something extra special about that friendship. And I think your comparison between Xena and Ares connection actually helps me understand where that specialness lies.

2025-07-27 21:44:53 +0000 UTCWhen they got to Season 6, they threw all caution to the wind with maintext. So they didn't see it as a big deal for Aphrodite to kiss Gabrielle. I mean she kisses her while under the influence of Caligula’s power so it doesn’t mean anything. And if you ask Alexandra Tydings - she played it that way on purpose. Gabrielle was the one mortal she fell in love with but ultimately knew she was with Xena. She would only make a move on her when her inhibitions were down in respect to her and Xena. There’s a moment in ‘Punch Lines’ where Aphrodite conjures herself a hot tub with bubbles while talking to Gabrielle and Gabrielle smells chocolate. Aphrodite tells her that it’s her little secret. An aphrodisiac. I’m assuming to entice Gabrielle to bathe with her. I have a headcanon that Gabrielle developed the ability to sense when Aphrodite was around the way Xena could sense when Ares was around. The gods could appear to mortals without their awareness of them. Xena had a unique skill of being able to be aware of the God of War. So I believe Gabrielle developed a unique skill of being able to be aware of the Goddess of Love after they established their own connection as friends. I don’t know. I think it just makes sense given the way I think about Xena and Gabrielle as individual characters. Xena being more gravitated towards war, Gabrielle to love. What does anyone else think? I think it’s a theory. I should probably analyze this a lot further.
