Curious what you guys think of cold opens (i.e. Mission Impossible 3's opening of Ethan tied to the chair while Phillip Seymour Hoffman interrogates him)? I personally find them to be a cheap way to get the audience engaged immediately by simply plucking a high intense moment from the middle of the movie and putting it at the beginning, only to catch up to it midway through. Not sure your thoughts on it.

In order to narrow this question down I am only referring to the first viewing experience of a movie. I am not a great writer so please feel free to rephrase this question if it get's chosen for the mailbag. Is it okay to watch a movie in chunks and take anywhere from a 3 to 24 hour break in between sittings? I know the three of you watch most movies for the first time in a theater but if not, do you always set aside enough time to watch a movie in its' entirety and complete it in one sitting? Or do you ever start a movie with the intention of stopping it and taking a break half way through? I would estimate that I see about 50% of the movies that are reviewed on this podcast in theaters but for those that I watch at home, some can have around three hour runtimes. Personally, I sometimes find myself more attentive and engaged with these longer movies when I break them up into more manageable chunks. I am not saying I watch all movies this way, I do think that there are some movies best consumed in one sitting without any or minimal distractions regardless of runtime. Am I losing much and/or unable to grasp the full breadth of any given movie watching experience by taking a break after a midpoint act or climax?
