The Lost DachaBo Demo
Added 2023-04-09 08:29:02 +0000 UTCIn 2022, we commissioned @flimbingo to produce a prototype for a full DachaBo "Digi-Pet" care sim. The idea was to flesh out the concept further, with a fully-voiced and illustrated game.
We received the demo very quickly! However, we got swept up in other events and the demo hasn't been brought out in a long time.
We're sharing it now with you all to see what you all think!
Currently, we're looking at the future of DachaBo in 1/4 ways--
1. DachaBo receives a cosmetic/programming upgrade to a more stable engine.
2. DachaBo becomes a desktop shimeji companion.
3. DachaBo becomes a "care" simulation game series.
4. DachaBo becomes a visual novel series, featuring an in-depth story and plot.
Neither has to be the sole option. And any of these won't be coming in the NEAR future. However, we hope that this glimpse into what could be will whet your appetites and get you all thinking!

Flimbingo here! I'm an illustrator, writer, and visual novel creator. This is the proof of concept demo for the DachaBo Tamagotchi I made in the engine Ren'Py.
It's a good look into what I plan to create for DachaBo. It features a persistent morality system, feeding system, and time system-- all in one fun package!

IMO, you could implement a lot of the ideas between this concept demo, and the game out on itch.io pretty easily into an Ukagaka. And I think it'd feel really natural because the advantage of an ukagaka, is they're really there to hang out and make you feel like you're getting to know them as you do other things on your computer. If done correctly, it makes them feel really alive(which adds a good creep factor depending on how you may want to swing it), and you can have a steady progression system.

2023-04-10 16:56:24 +0000 UTCAs a suggestion, There is a type of program you can use to make a desktop buddy/shimeji, but far more advanced, and even with some gaming/visual novel elements. They're called Ukagakas, or Ghosts, and think of them like BonziBuddy but without the virus spyware crap and very anime. Even if it's from Japan, and is a very niche japanese community, it has a sizable english one with translations, guides, and plenty of people willing to help others get into it. The coding for it is actually rather easy too. I really recommend looking them up and trying a few out, because it could potentially combine all 4 of your ideas into one project!

2023-04-09 11:19:08 +0000 UTCAwww~ I love this idea! As far as ideas go, I like 2,3,4. Maybe 3 and 4 could be combined where, as you care for Bo, story beats are added. Kind of like a choose-your-own-adventure but streamlined if that makes sense? Like, we'd have requirements within the 'care' simulator to advance to certain story beats. It could even have a decay system, where if you don't play the game long enough (or sit idle enough), you get a bad end its like in the demo, you play it again and BOOM! Jumpscare or easter eggs and lore...or maybe 2 could factor in by being the way he 'gets' into your computer. Like he gives you an option to download it (on either route) and BOOM AGAIN! Sorry, waaaay to excited for this. I'll shut up now.
