Where We Are Going… Yandere VNs and SnaccPop
Added 2022-11-10 19:36:44 +0000 UTCRecently I introduced SnaggeMon to you all and it’s gone over really well! It was great because usually I have to writer, program, etc.. all the portions. And I understand that it is not NSFW so I appreciate the support as is!
That being said. It’s brought up a very important question of legacy and appropriateness. And I just wanted to discuss today where things are headed.
Ultimately, Sunny Day Jack and DachaBo may be the last horror/Yandere VN I work on. I do love the concepts! But after seeing comparisons to the SFW, non-SnaccPop game I only contributed art to, I’ve had to grapple with the idea of the artistic legacy I may leave behind.
I do not want people comparing my SFW and unaffiliated work with my NSFW 18+ work. And I worry that 17- players of work I’m artistically apart of may see comments about Sunny Day Jack or DachaBo and go to those contents. And ultimately while I can differentiate themes of enjoying horror and romance, I often struggle with fears of my work being interpreted as condoning those actions IRL or worse.
Running NSFW anything is difficult because NSFW themed trauma has always been apart of my life and my work in NSFW was and is done with the notion of sticking it to the anti-sex work and sex culture. But I think two scary, clingy, horror Yandere BFs is enough out of me.
Sunny Day Jack will continue to see sensitivity counseling to help avoid genuinely harmful frictions/content, and I hope to make it an ultimately tasteful yet niche horror/romance experience! And DachaBo will exist as it is, hopefully until we can perhaps find a studio to help finish it. But I also like lots of happy things, and silly things. I hope to expand my content further to continue to express a love for sex positive culture, while learning more about how to positively navigate that in tandem with my own flawed perception and my desire to be sex-positive, but to also create in non-sexual spaces.
Apologies if this comes off as a lecture! I definitely do not want that and believe that there are and will be many brilliant games within the genre. I do continue to ask that SDJ fans please not go to works I’m apart of and compare them to my NSFW work. I’ve found many things I love with as brief as a passing comment. But that can go terribly wrong when introducing NSFW work comparisons to SFW games and audiences.
- The audience did not consent to being introduced or surrounded by NSFW fandom
- Potentially -17 audiences may enter 18+ spaces this way
- It could create a dangerous precedent for the SFW project’s own fandom prospects if it is flooded wit NSFW/Horror crossover works!
I don’t and have never seen this happen before and SP/SDJ has been a big learning experience for me, in how the NSFW space actually works. I don’t expect anyone’s ever heard these concerns before so I hope this comes out as palatable!
TLDR;
- If you don’t see a SnaccPop logo, it might be my personal and unaffiliated work! And even if the style is similar, please do not compare my NSFW work to my SFW work!
- Sunny Day Jack and DachaBo will be my only yandere works going on, to make way for different types of content which will be different in genre, but still fun for me to work on!
Thank you for your time and take care!
