Guest Artist of the Month | Higher and higher! by ToastyRey

Hi everyone!! I’m Rey!! I’m an artist in the west of the United States, and currently I’m a college student working towards an Associates in Digital Animation! (Which I graduate in May this year! Yippie! >:D) I love making artwork and small animatics/animations from time to time, basically I'm just a little shrimp trying their best haha.

I stumbled on Snaccpop content back in 2022 while just surfing around different games and fanart, and the moment I played the demo, I remember immediately falling in love with it. The plot, the artwork, just everything about it drew me in. I didn’t actually make any content until September, where I posted my first animatic thing that I thought was pretty funny. If you’ve seen the one video where Jack’s looking at Ian while he’s in his own clown costume and pointing to him in distress, that was me. Since then I’ve fallen in love with SWWSDJ more everyday, it became a little silly piece in my heart <3

I had a blast making these wallpapers, and my idea for this piece was to have something fun and adorable. Inspired by Sanrio wallpapers, I wanted to capture the thick lines and pastel background, almost like making a sticker book out of them in a way! There are some artworks from Sanrio where the characters are floating with balloons, and I wanted to incorporate the same thing into this! They’re small and chibi-fied and just embody cuteness! I also kept the color palette bright, vibrant colors to give the piece an overall happy feeling and keep the vibe with colors that would blend together nicely. Along with that, throwing in some rainbows and colorful stars to really sell it and BAM, you got yourself a little sticker page~

I also wanted to capture the scene like it was a play, almost like a puppet show where Jack and the others were putting on a performance in a way. Sticking with the same concept, I put in some curtains to give that illusion, and some spotlights for the stars of the show! I also threw in some noise and 3D effects in, to give the piece some texture and a little feeling that something feels a bit amiss, but you can’t quite put a finger on it.

Overall I had so much fun working on this! I really enjoyed making this, and I hope you all enjoy it as well! Thank you so much! <3
