And just because they are criminals doesn't mean they don't deserve their bending back. Its not like they are super evil and bent on world domination. So the Mako hate is unwarranted on this episode. It doesn't matter what Mako chooses to do here, because he is RIGHT.

I remember when I first saw that scene of him buying a controlling interest in Asami’s company, I was so ready to convict him just like Mako. Won’t say wether he’s right or not you’ll just have to see lol. Oh and by the way, the rest of the season turns each episode up to max similar to the second half of book 1, so enjoy the ride!!
