I also wanna add that I saw a theory that Eren wasn't excited for the sea but Armin was because Armin's dream was literally, just to see the ocean. Erens dream was to have the freedom to. At that moment, Armin realized that they have different dreams. Eren also sees that he still hasn't reached his true dream, freedom. He thought ending Titans was the key to that, but it got more complicated as you mentioned. He doesn't even have a clear idea for what freedom is, shown in the line where he asks if killing all of their enemies will finally make them free. The term freedom has no straight meaning to him, he just knows he wants it.

The difference is between training with and being friends with people in your battalion or regiment and then them dying versus just being a survivor in a group you only knew for a few days. Both are terrible but the rest go through the former and have deep attachments to many people who died while Floch just joined and didn't really have an attachment to anyone.

Man after watching so many reactions I still can't get into Levi, I get why other people enjoy his character but it just never gelled for me. You guys probably dont get a lot of suggestions for this, but I highly recommend watching the anime "Monster". Its one of the best written, psychological and emotional stories ever. It's relatively unknown due to coming out on Syfy back when Death Note was dominating mainstream anime viewers on Adult Swim. I can't give enough praise to it and I hope more people will recommend it or yall consider it!

Levi did get emotional. He wanted Erwin to rest rather than fight. You're doing exactly what Floch accused Eren of doing, treating his friends as if they are more important than other people, when that's not the Scout's ideal: "give your heart to humanity," at any cost. I don't like Floch much but I think he represents what a lot of readers thought too about Eren's hypocrisy.

Calling people childish isn’t really constructive. I never saw your original comment but if you called them that I can understand why they deleted it if they did. There are ways to have a discussion and disagree with someone without bringing personal characteristics into it. As you can see there are many commenters on the post who disagree about K&M’s opinion on Floch but they weren’t removed because they did so constructively. Maybe it would be a good time introspect about how you communicate your beliefs on topics, as it seems you find yourself getting negative responses. As much as I dislike Floch as a character, he absolutely has the right to say whatever he wants in this situation. Sure, he doesn't understand why Armin was chosen but he has lived through an absolute horror. Think about it, every time someone sacrifices to save Eren, how much guilt he goes through, when Armin did it, he couldn't handle it because it was Armin. However on the other side of the wall hundreds of people did exactly what Armin did. Is Floch wrong to question the decision? Even if he had the knowledge of Armin's merits, he literally dragged Erwin from the battlefield full of his friends' corpses, the kids who were basically scammed by Erwin to join scouts and then literally suicide. If you can sympathise with Eren's guilt when somebody dies to save his life, you should find sympathy for him too. Having said that, I still hate Floch.

For an off kilter anime recommendedation that I think you'd love I have to recommend Silver Spoon. It's from the same author as FMAB, and because its focused on farming features a lot of different horses, the MC even joins the equestrian club. It's definitely more chill and maybe not something that would do well but if you're ever after something smaller to watch in the future I can't recommend it enough.

In my opinion Armin was the right choice from a humane point of view. From a military point of view, Erwin is always the better choice. Especially at this point where all knowledge has become public. Armin is amazing and could be a great leader as Hanji told Mikasa but to me they don't have the time to wait till Armin grows to be that leader. Armin has some amazing accomplishments but he is no Erwin or Pyxis who can make the tough calls, that's just not in his character

Saving Armin technically was wrong from a military and a logical point of view. From an emotional and humane point of view it was the right thing to do. However, neither side in the conflict on who to be saved held any respect for Levi's choice. In the moment Eren and Mikasa did not respect his decision, during the aftermath Floch and the military had no respect for his decision. What's kinda annoying his how everyone is giving Floch a hard time for speaking his mind while Armin asked his opinion, if anything Armin got an honest answer which is better than being lied to.

I think his reaction is extremely understandable, but what makes him wrong in my opinion is the way he talks like their decision was just plain wrong. It was an extremely hard decision, and there wasn't a lot of time for it to be made. Erwin trusted Levi with this choice, so Levi's decision is the “right one” in that sense. But It's easy to judge a hard decision in retrospect, specially if you had strong feelings about it (like Floch). But at that moment, there was no right choice. There were only different options, with different good and bad sides to each. Floch acting like saving Armin was just wrong is what doesn't sit right with me. But, in the end, I just felt bad for him in this scene.

To be fair, Armin and Jean started all this. Jean basically forced him to tell Hitch a half truth and Armin straight up spoke to Floch about how he wanted Erwin saved. As for Floch, he lost close friends, friends he must have been with since his days as a cadet like our main characters. He lost all his fellow recruits, Marlowe who he must have looked up to to some degree, Sandra and Gordon who had been beside him ever since his introduction. All that he said is because others kept pushing and pulling at him in that moment while he is mourning in his own way.

Wow, Montana bringing up the hermit crab was really interesting and something I had never thought of. I suspect the hermit crab shell may also symbolise Eren's moving from one more naive viewpoint to a somewhat different one but it works on lots of levels so it's a really interesting observation.

It's an interesting perspective. I think it's shitty of Floch, no matter his feelings and whether they are valid or not, to bring this up now and in this location. They are all mourning comrades, and the you only saved your friend argument absolutely falls flat because Levi and Erwin were very close. A superior officer made the choice and he can make his feelings known to that office in private but yelling about it to Armin is basically saying I wish you had died and also giving everyone else leeway to treat Armin like crap because they also privately agree with Erwin being the best recipient. Everyone present in the Scout forces is mourning people they have been close to and known far longer than Floch knew anyone so to push aside their grieving and paying respect to the fall with complaining about something that literally can't be changed at this point is a shitty thing to do.

Fun fact: the final end credit scene is Armin sitting in front of Annie (she’s crystallized) while holding the shell. Also Montana totally nailed the symbolism of the shell, obviously nobody knows the real reason as to why Isayama included the shell but most go with the hermit crab idea of “outgrowing the shell” because the show is about to evolve into a whole new concept

I think its easy to hate floch because hes just some new kid that was introduced near the end of season 3 while we've been attached to everyone else since S1 and have more history with them. Personally, season 4 is my favorite season because it goes into a brand new, sort of untraditional evolution of a show where it changes so much toward the end of the story. But I think both Kenny and Montana will find it fascinating considering how much they loved season 3. Also also Montana is just a genius at putting things together, some theories hit and some don’t but not many (including myself and my friends) were able to connect so many plot points like she does during their first watch through. Huge props and I’m glad u both enjoyed aot this far 👏

I think Floch absolutely has room to have a rebuttal to their choice to revive Armin. Sure, without Armin, they wouldn't have defeated the Colossal Titan, but without Floch and literally *every other one of his comrades* they never would've given Levi the chance to take down the Beast Titan, which would have left both him and the Quadruped free to continue attacking, as well as all of the other titans the Beast Titan summoned. Aside from that, outside of the eight other scouts alive who know Armin, Floch has no idea how instrumental Armin has been before this. Eren mentions it while they argue over who to revive, but I doubt he was really listening because of the horrific event he just survived, and why would he? Erwin is the obvious choice to most people, and maybe even the right choice. You can dislike Floch, that's fair, but I don't feel its accurate to say he has no right to argue about what they did, even during a memorial to fallen scouts. What he went through and witnessed changed him, as it would a lot of people. One more thing, regarding him being self-aware that he's a coward, and that not mattering because he had a choice, he wasn't complaining about being fodder, he accepted that. He just felt that by picking Armin, they sentenced them all to death due to selfishness, instead of valuing the lives of everyone who joins the scouts. form this point on. Rant over lol.

I understand where you guys are coming from about Floch, but the only reason Floch started saying any of that was because Armin brought it up. also, while Floch may not have gone through what the other characters did, he still went through Hell and back fighting against the Beast Titan. I think willingly (Erwin didn't force anyone, he persuaded them) participating in a suicide charge and being the only survivor gives him the right to speak.
