Attack on titan 4x21 Reaction "From you, 2000 years ago"

SO SORRY FOR THE ERROR IN POSTING! Took me a while to figure it out, but this should work!!

Attack on titan 4x21 Reaction "From you, 2000 years ago"

Comments

Pure Titans eat people because pure Titans only exist to inherit one of the Titans shifters so every pure Titan is just looking for a shifter to eat.

gamerx

Humbly casting another FMAB vote as I keep rewatching AoT with y'all. Which was a GREAT call, especially since most of it was a rewatch with Kenny, too. It's been a great way to catch things I've missed before!

My favorite part of this is the soundtrack. When Eren gets the founder, it doesn't sound heroic. It doesn't sound like the Hero just got the keys to success. It sounds like the villain is just getting started

Spinning Red Chair

I feel like we do get many moments of Eldian Paridians vs. Eldian Marlians. Reiner, Berethold, and Annie are prime examples of this where they have their loyalty to Marley. Peick talks about that she doesn't trust Marley but is loyal to her Marlian comrades. It does make sense that Eren considers them as enemies regardless of their blood, because they are even though they're treated poorly.

FMAB is serious but lighthearted enough to be a good palate cleanser compared to AoT, while the other suggestions are going to be more somber/brutal in tone. I think it'll also be a better intro to anime tropes overall.

Rob Not

I think you should start with death note and finish that first because demon slayer hasn't been fully animated with the manga yet. Once that is over demon slayer is for sure a great animated show to watch and has a good plot to it. The sword smith village arc was teased without a release date and I feel like it would be better if you guys didn't have to wait like everyone else for the next coming seasons just like attack on titan.

LokiBH

I got 4x19 to play somehow but this one just isnt working.

Fun fact about this episode: the Japanese voice actor for Eren Jaeger, Yuki Kaji, claimed he almost lost his voice from the scenes during this episode. As expected of Bryce Papenbrook (English voice actor for Eren, is very popular among the English dubs for a number of different anime), stood up to the challenge. This is my first time hearing the dub for s4 pt2 as I watch your reactions and Bryce delivered an amazing voice acting performance as well this episode. This episode is also a favorite for many fans and it’s rated as a 9.9 on IMDb if I remember right. Fans often compare the stretch of episodes of Perfect Game-Hero-Midnight Sun (season 3) to Declaration of War-The Warhammer Titan-Assault (season 4 part 1) to Two Brothers-Memories of the Future-From You, 2000 years ago (season 4 part 2)… on which is the best 3 episode stretch in attack on Titan. Fun fact (within a fun fact lol), every single one of those episodes are rated 9.8/10 or higher 🔥

karstenj10

i'd say that if i was forced to give an answer i'd probably go with "human nature" as the villain of the show but even that is a gross oversimplification and also a lot more nihilistic than what the story is actually trying to express and explore so..... yeah i think you hit the nail on the head there with there being no answer and that being the point

K. Unknown

Def starting to get used to the dub through these reactions. It’s actually quite nice! Y’all are gonna love Death note’s dub, peak anime dub imo

exhausted

Don’t judge me for typing this out lol [No spoilers past 4x21] The Armored Titan - Ymir, the Shield - Ymir acted as a human shield for King Fritz. The Armored Titan is known as “Marley’s shield,” the “World’s Shield,” and likely acted as “Eldia’s shield” in the past. The Armored has been known to shield other Titan shifters in battle i.e. Reiner taking cannonfire for Zeke (which may be a parallel to how Ymir also shielded royalty). The Female Titan - Ymir, the Mother - The Female Titan’s call draws Pure Titans to it like a mother’s call. However, they end up devouring the Female Titan just as Ymir’s daughters were forced to do to Ymir’s body by their father. The female is also known as the most versatile, just like how a mother can do almost anything for the sake of her children. The Warhammer Titan - Ymir, the Crafter - Ymir built roads, bridges, and other infrastructure for Eldia. Ymir continues to spend her existence in the Paths crafting Titan bodies and whatever the King’s descendants dictate. Her aptitude suggest that she might have had a natural talent for building and sculpting. Likewise, the Warhammer has the most versatile manipulation of Titan matter. The Beast Titan - This explanation includes slight spoilers, so I will refrain. The Cart Titan - Ymir, the Slave - The Cart Titan is built like a beast of burden. It has very high endurance, able to keep its form for months on end, working tirelessly to serve those that command it. The Colossal Titan - Ymir, the Strongest - The part of Ymir that recalls being a powerful Titan towering above all others. It is the only one of the nine whose size and physical strength even approaches that of Ymir’s First Titan. The Jaw Titan - Ymir, the Savage - The savage is the part of Ymir that mercilessly tore asunder the armies of Marley and other nations. Its possesses jaws and claws can crush virtually anything. If the Warhammer is the creator, the Jaws is the destroyer. The Founding Titan - This explanation includes spoilers, so I will refrain. The Attack Titan - Ymir, the Rebel - The part of Ymir that longs for freedom.

Victreebel91

demon slayer or death note have my vote

Jay

I'm not done with the reaction so maybe you say it later, but Ymir died from the spear because you need the will to live to regenerate as a titan shifter and she didn't want to live as the king's slave anymore.

lily whetsell

Since he was in contact with Zeke, who has royal blood, he is able to access the founding titans power and the fact that they are doing from the coordinate most likely has some greater effect. Like how he gained control over pure titans when he punched Dina, you could see that the other shifters felt the founders power but he didnt draw enough to fully control them. That is my theory anyways

NinjaNoceros

My vote goes to Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood

Ben Sarchett

If you think there’s an answer to that question I think you’ve misunderstood the point of the show

Jacob Asmuth

that I know, but at that moment Eren didn't have access to the full power of the founding titan until this moment and even then it's under certain circumstance. Also I meant effect by way of talking to someone in the past almost, communicating through memory the way he did with Grisha, stopping certain things from happening.

lily cagle

The founders power has the ability to effect all titans and Elidans, that is why the king was able to erase/alter memories from all subjects of Yimir and why those who are of royal blood, who inherit the founders power, are bound by King Fritz vow of pacifism

NinjaNoceros

Honestly, it’s hard to give a definitive answer. Most will say that Eren is now the villain because he is committing mass genocide. Yes, obviously mass genocide is an awful thing, just take a look at our own history. But people need to put themselves in Eren’s shoes. Since the day the walls were breached, he’s watched friends die, allies betray him, his mother murdered, his father disappear (until of course he finds out he ate his father). Now he learns about the outside world and how much they despise his people and how all of his people are targets and will be killed if action isn’t taken. He then sees the future on multiple occasions, seeing himself do horrible things, he tries to fight it as best he can, but then realizes anything he does turns out to be the steps to make it happen. He knows he can’t escape it, so he keeps moving forward. He makes the decision to be a martyr and be forever hated so that his family and friends can go on living their lives to their fullest. Someone else on the Letts’ patreon said something that explains my point perfectly that, if people can understand Dr. Strange’s, “there was no other way.” But can’t understand what Eren is doing, are hypocrites.

Samuel Horwitz

I assumed that Eren could only effect the actions of the holders of the attack titan, do you think otherwise, that he could affect any Eldian?

The way I think about it is that, AOT is a story in a different universe. With different rules than ours lol. In our world. Yeah. No way In hell could indiscriminate genocide be justified. In this universe. With this reality, with this cycle.. idk. I get it. Kill or be killed. It didn’t matter. At first Eren vs Titans. Then Eren vs Humans. Now Eren vs The rest of the world. Good god is it tragic and overkill. But it makes sense. Killing everyone takes care of the problem that everyone fears and demonizes the Eldians. Will the cycle of hatred or violence ever stop. No haha. Never. But in his mind, freedom to live without persecution 🤷🏻‍♂️. You could truly write an essay 😂.

Izrail Gevorgyan

Demon slayer !

Ashley Garcia

I'm fairly certain Ymir could heal if she chose to do so. She simply lost the will to live in that moment, much like Reiner in a previous episode.

zbox5432

At least for me, it's more that I can understand why Eren chose to do this. I don't think indiscriminate genocide can ever be truly justified.

zbox5432

This episode just deserves an 11/10. Its my fav epi for 6 good reasons dont @ me

Trismegistus

what makes this show so unbelievably great, is the fact that even though it’s straight up mass genocide… you can justify it.. Isayama you absolute madman

Izrail Gevorgyan

Founder Ymir has suffered the most out of any character in the show, BY FAR. Like it’s not even close lmao. Never thought I’d say that but yeah. Awful life, death, and afterlife (and said afterlife has been going on for her for what feels like an eternity). The way that she just can’t stop behaving as the King’s slave after all this time because that’s all she’s ever known or been told to do is just really upsetting to see. She’s got to be one of the most tragic characters in any piece of fiction I’ve ever seen honestly.

Chelly

Interesting to see the change in character, or rather in motive with Eren from season 1 to season 4 huh? Season 1 Eren believed there were no humans outside the walls and that the Titans were mankind's greatest enemy, so he vowed to destroy them all. Season 4 Eren believes that the only people worth saving are inside the walls, despite the fact he knows humans exist outside the walls, and sees titans not as mankind's greatest enemy, but as his weapon, to eradicate the rest of humanity.

Spinning Red Chair

God this episode was heartbreaking. It's clear that Ymir hasn't been regarded as or treated as a human being for a long, long time. Even after her death, her life and the things she was forced to do was used in whichever way benefit the group discussing it. I also truly admire how well Isayama portrayed the mindset someone can end up in due to the treatment they receive as someone regarded as less than human, especially as a slave. To be human is to have choice and self-worth; these were both taken away from her at an incredibly formative age, and then trauma after trauma/abuse after abuse until her death. I have nothing but empathy for her

No spoilers ahead. Regarding Montana's question, there was always an option of a half rumbling - that was the original plan. Remember he was meant to initiate a smaller rumbling to strike fear into oppressors for 50 more years, while maintaining the walls. Eren is going overkill.

Reece

One of the reasons I just love this episode, is that it shows that the literal "Subjects of Ymir" have always been victims. They've been slaves, used like weapons, First by Eldia, then Marley. 13 years, at most, as a titan shifter, and a never ending nightmare if you're forcibly turned into a mindless titan. It's always people in power abusing the innocent, and the Eldian Empire wronged Subjects of Ymir just as much as any power in this world has. We don't even know who Ymir's people were, they were completely absorbed/destroyed by Eldia.

Zak Moran

I would love to see you guys watch demon slayer

Artsy Dartsy

Yeah my vote is Demon Slayer.

Andrew

I assumed it was because there was nobody on the other side to reconstruct her, like she did for Zeke.

Stephen Ray

Montana apologizing for making fun of Ymir’s creations is so funny to me idk why

Rory Fitz

Gonna throw my vote for Death Note, about time for me to rewatch anyway, why not with you guys?!

Eric Miles

Also yes a partial rumbling was possible. One of Zeke's prerequisites was to do a mock version of the rumbling where they just take a portion of the wall, Which was going to be shaganshina which is why only military people were there and no civilians.

Ryan Torres

To just add in a bit of context, when someone in the show refers to the Founder, they are referring to the physical titan form, regardless of the shifter. That bug is the coordinate. Without it connecting to Ymir to be a part of the Founder and any other shifter who uses it later, the abilities to control other titans the way it does could not happen. To give it an analogy along with how Eren used it to talk to the Subjects of Ymir, your on a conference call at a company, Subjects of Ymir are the workers, the coordinate is the phone they hear orders from, and the Founder is the CEO giving the orders.

Ryan Torres

Demon slayer agreeing with PurpleTux

ViperVales

Philip no, I meant it like I wrote it. Zeke and Eren needed each other to gain control over the founder (and to get to the paths, but this wasn't the original intention) by touching. After that, Zeke had full control over Ymir because of his royal blood. This means it was 100% Zekes decision to watch Grishas memories (he could have watched them without Eren, if he wanted to). Zeke wanted to show these memories to Eren in order to convince him that his father brainwashed him, too. But, as we know, this went horribly wrong because watching these memories enabled Eren to use the Attack Titans ability to selectively send memories back to a previous Attack Titan inheritor - in this case Grisha. So, whenever he wanted, Eren livestreamed his perspective of Grishas memories to Grisha. By the way, I think the wording the English dub used to describe the ability was very poor. In the original it was less complex, Grisha only said "the Attack Titan can glimpse into the memories of its future inheritors. In other words, it is able to know the future".

Samuel Horwitz

I think y’all should post a reaction to the rumbling SIM music video now.

Jacob Loney

You mentioned that re-watching this is going to hit differently. You have no idea how much it does! Moments that had minor impact, with more knowledge, hit harder. I think that's why everyone is enjoying reacting to you both because it let's us enjoy it a third time!

Lawrence Russell

About Ymir's death: she did have the power to regenerate, but she chose to die instead. It was explained earlier in the first part of season 4: Reiner wasn't regenerating at some point (during Eren's attack on Liberio) because he was tired and didn't want to live anymore. It's the shifter choice to regenerate or give up and die. Also, during the flashback, you can see exactly 13 fingers pointed at Ymir, representing the 13 years of the Curse of Ymir (shifters die after 13 years when possessing the power of a titan). And when she was shot be the arrows, she stared at a flower that had 9 petals : representing the 9 titans. AOT has some damn symbolism right?

Robin B

These reactions are only getting better. I say watch death note considering how much you guys seem to love trying to solve mysteries.

Alejandro

Idk if you guys noticed but in the beginning when the slaves pointed at Ymir to blame her for letting the pig out there were 13 fingers pointing, representing the 13 year curse!!

Sara

"Did he let Reiner do everything he did cuz he knew it'd make him be the person he was gonna be" man... 😔 Awesome reaction as always! 🔥

Val

@Philip, it was zekes doing that allowed them to see Grisha’s memories using the attack Titan. The only thing Eren had control over was him showing his father his current memories. Eren did not get the founder’s power until he convinced Ymir. The founder can view any eldian’s memories, but the attack Titan is the only one that can selectively send memories to past inheritors.

bruhmingo

Ymir embodies, "Even if you die. Even after you die"

Jawrool

You said "Zeke used the Founder to watch Grishas memories this way. He couldn't have done it without Zeke" didn't you mean Eren used the founder to watch Grisha's memories this way. or do you mean, he couldn't have done it without Eren.

Madara_Uchiha_2022

The episode that gave Eren a best protagonist and best antagonist nomination for the anime awards

Donovan Barnes

Ymir and her village were their own people, they were conquered by Eldia. King Fritz is the reason titans eat people, by making his daughters and their children eat each other throughout time he instilled that behavior in all future pure titans.

Adam Brown

mabel and waddles

Full Metal Alchemist brotherhood is the one I believe you would enjoy the most. Also, its a complete story and there is no need to wait for a new season.

Oron Bar

I keep forgetting that I've never seen these episodes in English, so I keep getting startled by certain things (absolutely not in a bad way at all). Sometimes it feels new all over again to me, and I love it!

King Katerina

The moment when Eren decided to make Onyankopon the last Black person on earth 😬

Do you remember the creepy season 2 ending theme because Ymir's past was actually teased through the images of the ending, along with the rumbling. Also, can't wait for the next episode.

“You’re not a slave, and you’re no god either. You’re just human.” That line makes me sob every single time I hear it

PEAK AOT. SCREW THAT. PEAK FICTION!!!

MaybeNextTime

You're correct, I mean, he could've sent these memories to Grisha to relay to Eren, like something like "Don't trust Reiner," but I think that would've made the show worse. Everything they did was perfect in my opinion

Yahzzie

Season 4 Episodes 19-21, 24, 26-28 are some of my favorite episodes. I have a lot of favorite episodes though, most in season 4.

Eren’s Founding Titan is specifically designed.. to keep moving forward. Man I always get chills hearing “and the people of Paradis, are all that remains of humanity”

Coby

After part 2 of aot, plz watch demon slayer 🥹

Carlos Salazar

You said at the beginning that "Eren went back in time to change stuff" and that he "could have prevented Reiner from doing what he did", but I think you misunderstood how this works. He didn't time travel, Zeke used the Founder to watch Grishas memories this way. He couldn't have done it without Zeke. He used the Attack Titans power to show his own memory of watching Grishas memories to Grisha. He didn't know everything, in fact, he knew only some milestones, e.g. he didn't know that Sasha would die, Marley would counter attack so fast, Gabi would shoot his head off and much more stuff. He only knew what his future self showed to Grisha and nothing more. And he was NOT able to time travel and would not have been able to stop Reiner!
