Late question but for Kenny specifically: You mentioned that you watched the sub before and the dub now. How do you feel about the dub version of the exact moment War is Declared? I love love how they did it, but haven't been able to get many other folks opinions. Lol, I had to join the patreon to see this one in particular early XD

The only thing I would consider as most likely true is that it was King Fritz who ended the war and went to the island and made the "vow renouncing war". The reason given, that "the King anguished over Eldias brutal history" can be propaganda just as the restorationists thinking Ymir cultivated all the lands and bettered humanity might be propaganda. We simply don't know anything, but Tybur burying the legend of Helos by telling everyone that it was King Fritz who ended the war is most likely true.

Maybe the real point is that history always has two sides two it at least and the truth is somewhere in the middle.

Eldia had titans, Eldia opressed the world. The only way Eldia was stopped was because the Eldian King himself wanted to stop. The Eldian King himself believed that what Eldia had done was so bad that if the world wanted to destroy them the world had the right to do it and he would just accept it. It's not a manipulation thing, Tybur is basically just saying the truth.

Fundamentally their situation are the same. "There's an existential threat to my people and I need to act" it's as basic as that. Also, let's not forget that Paradis people were continuing to oppress Asian people on the island, a functional genocide if Paradis was really the last remnant of humanity. Memory, no memory, some people in the wall were still "sinning", and some people in the world community are just minding their business too. Purity Olympics makes no sense and overlooks all the layers of the story. Rogue nation with one and a half millennia history of violence and the fire power to destroy all life on earth... how weird no one was chill about it...

There's also something the audience brushes over real quick because Eren & co. are on "our side"; Paradis, as say, a rogue nation with enough nuclear weapon stockpiled to destroy the planet twice over, remains an existential threat to all life forms on the planet. It's not something countries are normally just fine with.

King Fritz was incredibly selfish after using titans to conquer and kill, then demanding a few hundred years of peace, conveniently giving him time to die peacefully while leaving future Eldians to be attacked and just die if Marley or anyone else decides to attack them despite his fake warnings. He knows the Tyburs know that the threat of the rumbling has no teeth and that will for sure be discovered or revealed one day and then everyone in Paradis will be absolutely screwed.

As mentioned and proven multiple times the Titans are becoming outdated by modern weapons and they want to modernize their military using those resources. 2. Paridis is not the aggressor of this war, they are the ones being declared war on. 3. Paridis is not just being declared war on. The entire world has just declared its intent of *genociding* his entire people. 4. You do not inherit the sins of your ancestors. The people of Paridis are innocent. They have lived in isolation from the rest of the world for a century while Marlia and the rest of the world have continuously been sinning by oppressing Eldians.

I would love to see both of you react to Arcane, but like, do not, do not wear make up and have 7 million tissues -- for the both of you. It's really cathartic to watch it, quite a masterpiece, and I love that you can easily predict if you wanted to with how much love that was clearly put into the show, but it makes you want to take it for the ride that it is. Even when you see it and have theorized it and know it's going to happen the way it's laid out is so beautiful. I also highly recommend Centaur World!

2022-02-28 00:18:04 +0000 UTCTo me there is one big difference between the warriors attacking Paradis and Eren attacking Marley, and that is the fact that the people in Paradis literally has no idea the outside world even exist. They are not an active threat, and despite knowing this Reiner and Bertholt keep attacking them, even after getting to know them. When Eren attacks he is attacking an enemy that he knows for a fact will wipe him and his people out if he does nothing.

All of the anime on your list are great and I would say on-par with AoT regarding story telling. I definitely recommend FMA: Brotherhood or Deathnote as those are both fully finished. This could give you time for some of the others on your list to have more episodes. (Also, I would strongly suggest adding My Hero Academia to that list)
