2022-03-11 19:05:36 +0000 UTCSorry for the late response, but I just wanted to say that EVERYONE in this show is fighting for the right to exist, not just Eren (and as an extension Paradis). Both sides want to see the other completely annihilated because they consider them to be a threat to their safety, and THEY’RE RIGHT. They are all valid in their fears and their actions based on what they’ve come to understand. It’s like you said, people will almost always prioritize the ones they want to protect. That’s the unfortunate fatal flaw that humans are stuck with from the moment they’re born into this world, and it will inevitably lead to absolute devastation like what we saw this episode and what we saw way back in episode 1.

In no way am I an avid anime watcher, if anything I’ve watched only the well known animes. But that’s just because the ones I’ve watched have great story, writing, action, characters and unlike a lot of anime filled with filler arcs/episodes, they’re straight to the point in their seasons much like a live action show. Imo if you’re trying to decide on an anime that’s AOT level, definitely consider Fullmetal, Deathnote, Demon Slayer and Jujustu Kaizen. Most importantly Demon Slayer and FMAB, these two shows give you that incredibly cathartic connection to the characters with their storylines

By all means don’t take this as me shitting on dub and trying to advocate hardcore for sub reactions, I really don’t mind either way, I just think that particular episode has better dialogue and certain lines are said in a better tone and manner in the subbed version than the dub. I thought Erwin’s speech was just as impactful in dub than in subbed and there are plenty of other scenes that I feel the same about. dub version of episode 20 was good nonetheless but lacking that “oomf” in my opinion

The way I see it, it's got nothing going for it that sets it apart from other shonen anime save for maybe some of the art style. Now to be fair I've only watched half of the first season and everyone keeps telling me it gets better, but they've been telling me that since episode 3. If you have to wait a whole season before a show gets interesting then I don't think it's worth watching

The loss of any innocent life is a crime, and as much as I love Eren, this attack made me feel so heartbroken. And as much as I sympathize for the Warriors, the things they did scarred them and wrecked countless lives. Just heartbreaking all around. There are no winners in a situation like this

They went to a rally where they were cheering as Willy Tyber declared that he wanted to wipe out the people on the island. What Eren did here was unequivocally the right thing. People forget at every point after this that the alternative was that. Eren was the leader of an oppressed country that was about to be the victim of genocidal colonization that would make all other genocides in our world look like minor conflicts. There is no level of fighting back that would be unreasonable when you’re fighting the extinction of your homeland.

Eren is litertally fighting for the right to exist in this world. When Zeke says "Eren Jeager is not my enemy", the connotation of what he says in Japanese is a bit different than the English translation. He says "Eren Jeager wa ore no teki ja nai" which literally translates to "Eren Jeager is not my enemy." However, in Japanese, the connotation based on context can also mean that Eren isn't his enemy because he's nowhere near strong enough to threaten him/he's not on his level. That's why there are confused looks from the other warriors right after he says that because they’re not sure how to interpret his words.

I just kept thinking to myself "How dare he" How dare he ask Eren to stop when hundreds of thousands of people screamed for the same thing as mindless titans his government sent to the people of the walls/paradise. I just remember Episode 1 as I saw Erens mom HELPLESLY fight Diana titan with her hands as she yelled out for the love of her son and was then snapped in half and then eaten alive. As we know, transforming takes drive and willpower (something that Reiner is unfortunately short on at the moment) but he managed to dig deep for the sake of the kids and in order to save Galliard. It's a neat visual metaphor for who Reiner is beneath the armor and how Reiner is regaining his humanity while Eren is depicted to be increasingly monstrous. Reiner ran when the Jaw Titan was eaten in the past but this time, he's chosen to fight and protect it and even more poetically, Porco Galliard just so happens to be the brother of the previous holder he abandoned.

2022-03-10 02:43:10 +0000 UTCAll the top anime suggestions at the moment, while great, skew heavily on the dreary side, so I’d like to recommend some shows that are more wholesome and uplifting like Ranking of Kings, or Hunter x Hunter. Feels like after Attack on Titan, it would be interesting to go somewhere else completely tone wise.
