The military is everywhere, the leader of the country is clad in uniform, and the justice system is a sham. Pretty sure the story is strongly hinting this isn't a paradise of democracy and civil liberties.

Also from the stories point of view nothing other than the Ishvalan war makes it seem like a dictatorship. Everyone seems to be living just fine in Amestris.

2022-07-28 21:42:45 +0000 UTCYes, the person must understand the matrix (which is akin to an equation or written chemical commands) and the matter it's trying to affect; So, somebody else with mustang’s glove would need to have the same scientific understanding of his research and the result of that research, which is his matrix. Also, the anime doesn’t delve much into explaining symbology, like the salamander or the sun and moon on that prisoners hands from a few episodes back, but there is a lot of interesting symbology pulled from the 1400s, a period when chemistry mixed with occultism, which led to some manuscripts in Latin with theories of how to make homunculi and so forth. So, the show takes that alchemy from our history and makes it real in its own way.

What Mustang does is at the same time conduct a complex alchemical effect that changes the air composition pressure, etc. as necessary to make that spark a bomb. .

2022-07-28 21:30:54 +0000 UTCno one else can use Mustang's gloves, it comes back to what you said in an earlier episode about how you need to understand the chemical makeup of what you're using alchemy on and Mustang is the only person who knows what is involved in creating the flames so his gloves are useless to anyone else.
