Full Metal Alchemist 1x3 Reaction, "City of Heresy"

Enjoy! Next Episode coming Wednesday!

Comments

I really want you guys to react to D. Grayman. It's definitely not gonna be recommended much but it's very unrated and I think you two would love it.

Alexus Murphy

bro skipped the intro at my favorite part to hear ><

wolfgangfang Yt

Reminds me of a phrase I heard about fanatics. A fanatic doubles their efforts while losing sight of their goal.

Calvin

Not Kenny saying he would make a mirror lmao

KJ Gaona

Now that you've seen episode 4, I always liked the dichotomy of those two episodes back to back. Like, the evil of religion, followed by the evil of science

Todd Bell

Why has this one released before ep 2

Cranky

I would like to point out that the sequence in which Cornello transforms into a giant behemoth does not happen in the manga. It was added in the anime to make the climax of the episode a little more exciting, but it sort of contradicts the laws of the Fullmetal Alchemist universe. Bio-alchemy is an incredibly intricate and complicated form of alchemy (especially performing it on your own body) and a novice like Cornello shouldn’t have been able to so easily alter his own flesh like that, even with the help of the so-called Philosopher’s Stone. It also doesn’t make sense that he reverts back to normal at the end of the confrontation. That isn’t how alchemy works in this universe.

Gonna add to the hair admiration here and say that I've finally remembered what it is the hair color change reminds me of: It's Adora with the old hair color and She-ra with the new glowy version. Well done!

there's a lot of philosophy in this show relating to the boundaries of human limits, ambition and how "we shouldn't play god" its why this show is so good because its never just "good or evil"

Silver

Also you folks may have missed the conversation in the previous ep where Winry's grandmother talks about finding "that thing" they conjured up and burying it.

fr0st

Avatar-brained is a good way to put it. It makes sense that they're comparing things to the known magic system they are most familiar with but I hope they cotton on soon that it's more appropriate to think of alchemy in this world as literally science. If you have x parts, you can build a robot arm in our world and if you have the same parts, you can use alchemy to create something out of the same parts, but more easily altering the base makeup of the ingredients

At 17:15, Ed just heard them close the door behind him, he didn't know about the gun until he turned Back around

Zak Moran

Yay! Yay! Yay! Finally after months of waiting the episode I've been waiting to see y'all react to is up next! Montana's reaction will be up there with the Earth Queen's breathing exercises and Erwin's speech in quality

Dristin

They are so Avatar-brained when it comes to him being called the “Fullmetal Alchemist”, it’s charming. I wonder if the show/Kenny’s editing will clear that up for them first or Chris stepping in again to clarify. I hope they personally rewatch these react episodes after they finish the show

Eric Heim

1 thing I will note is that most State Alchemist code-names have to do with their area of Speciality (Isaac McDougal - The Freezing Alchemist, Roy Mustang - The Flame Alchemist, etc.) But they are not necessarily always tied to their abilities. So Edward being called “Fullmetal” doesn’t necessarily denote him being a metal specialist, in the same way that Armstrong’s speciality isn’t strength-based alchemy, he just is strong and uses hand to hand combat along with alchemy. Just to say that Edward’s power-set and title isn’t necessarily dependent on his ability or major area of study.

Ethan Honza

The dialogue differences always get to me in these first few episodes.

Ben Barringer

OOooo girl 💇‍♀️ radiant hair. and now that you’re up to Ep 5, you noticed the extremes of religion & science. and the story of Ishval

Austin Wiebel

Also, your hair is LAID to the Gods Montana lol. VERY flattering color on you.

Andrew G

oh. oh right. That one. BRUH LOL

Andrew G

💀💀💀💀💀🤣

Andrew G

OoooHH! Okay okay. okay. this is fun. Let’s see. What COULD your titles as State Alchemists be… For you Kenny… I think if we’re in this universe, the military would /probably/ have you researching, developing and maintaining both mechanically complex AND molecularly complex materials to create “simple” automatons as “mechanized quality of life improvements” (but we all know they’re gonna try to weaponize them the instant the opportunity presents itself because of course they would lol) for you Montana… I think if we’re in this universe, the military would /probably/ have you researching, developing and engineering new, extremely genetically complex hybrid species of plants with several different effect profiles that normally would never exist in nature as “medicinal plants to assist in mending both the physical and metaphysical maladies of our citizens” (but we all know they’re gonna try to weaponize them the instant the opportunity presents itself because of course they would lol) Kenny, the Titans’ Thread Alchemist Montana, the Earthsinger Alchemist

Andrew G

Kenny’s interest in chimeras is going to make next episode really interesting! I can’t wait for that reaction!

Rachel Douglas

Cannot wait for ep 4 and y'all have seen it already so you know why.

fr0st

Also re: when did this come out, the original FMA series, which most of the first half of the show is reasonably close to, came out in 2003 and the manga is even older.

fr0st

wooohoo

Emily

Not sure if you caught it, but Gluttony definitely called the lady Lust.

SweetCandle

Looking forward to crying on Wednesday!

Erik

I was gonna say, literally the first thing I noticed when the video started was her hair. It does look great

Manuel Pagan

Also regarding Cornello noting that they don't use a transmutation circle means that people in general are very comfortable and used to the idea of alchemists (since the government literally employs them and they are the scientists of this world) but that they have always seen it done with a circle with complicated patterns inside. Imagine if you saw a forensic scientists just look at blood and tell you the results of a blood test or type. Not knowing much about medicine, you'd still be astonished at how they did that without the tools you know everyone needs to do so.

fr0st

I'm loving all the discussion y'all are having but definitely be patient. Many rules are explained in time. Also, if you hear a new word, like Chimera or Alchemy, definitely check out the definitions because that'll give you a lot of hints as to what they are. For example, I don't think you guys noticed that the chimera in this episode is a combination of multiple living animals, so Cornelly likely didn't create a mixed animal out of nothing, he transmuted 2 or more separate ones to form one new mixed one.

fr0st

I nearly spat out my tea. Absolutely dead from the constant back and forth roasting xD

fr0st

montana i have to say you are glowing in this reaction today! your hair looks absolutely gorgeous! love the reactions as always :) have a great day you guys

jolly

"Makes a mirror" 🤣🤣🤣

Æther Paradox

As for the difference between not needing a circle and needing a circle, you may have noticed some of the most basic ones so far namely that we've seen Ed transmute ice, rock, metal while most other Alchemists are more limited because they need a different set of symbols for different things.

brosenthalUO

A lot of people cite this show as having one of the best “hard magic” systems out there (that is, magic with a very clear and defined set of rules). It’s definitely more complicated than something like ATLA, but once you see more of it, you will come to understand how it works.

Chelly

Yesyesyesyessss

Mara Camille (TheFlannelDeath)

SO excited for you guys to watch this show!!!
