Oscar Hernandez

Tell Chris to watch Dr.Stone if he loves science, my favorite show!

Kaleb

Just realized Shou Tucker is the voice actor for Stein from Soul Eater and it makes so much sense x.x

Malea Probus

Ed…ward…

Viperizer0

No one is saying FMA:B is trash. All Tomasz said was this storyline with Nina hit harder in 2003 FMA bc we stayed with the characters longer.

M00nD0ggie13

My friends and I refer to this episode as that episode. I was waiting for this episode reaction ever since you announced your reactions to FMA Brotherhood.

Mohamed Shokier

I mean, at least it's on brand for your username xD

DAMMIT I didnt realize how much of a long ass fcking comment this was untill I posted it. Oh well 😂

Bro this episode gave me whiplash lol I watched the original series, so I knew this was going to happen, and I remember this sequence taking TIME in OG FMA to happen Enter: Brotherhood episode FOUR It almost made it worse to me because I thought I would still have time to really get ready for at least one more episode for this shit but nah. They said, “you can choke this down immediately, actually” LIKE LOL It’s been almost 20 years since my first introduction to the Nina chimaera and it STILL fucks with me every time I see it lol I think this one’s worse than the first one because of how abrupt it is. And how it talks and how it has feelings. Eugh. Even Scar killing her the way he did in the ending scene also almost makes it worse than the original. It really highlighted every single awful thing about what he transmuted her into. “Daddy hurt. No daddy” I mean Christ, it not only spoke, it was starting to cry and grieve too. There’s no way she could have survived on her own without him. He didn’t even think he was going to get into any trouble for doing it. No forethought. So so so disturbing

Andrew G

Lol so funny I never realized scar was Erwin 😂 now I can’t unhear it

Ci-Ci

That isn't the same as saying it's the best show. But thank you for not engaging with anything I said in good faith.

Ryne C. Snyder

As horrific yes, as sad? Your mileage may vary lol

Eric Smith

Patreon Pirater was quick to private your video… ha- Also, this was incredibly hard to watch.

Manic Void

don't worry guys this is as sad and horrific as it gets for most of the series, the fma fanbase pretty much agrees completely that this is the hardest and most disgusting episode to watch.

Silver

This episode is so dark, I hate it

pineapplegreg

The horror on their faces when they quickly pieced everything together upon seeing the chimera is something we all can empathize with too well

Russell Gambardella

Yeah the way I thought about it was that it was Knockoff, never really took the "fake" literally

Néo

Yeah like a fake diamond hammer can still break glass right.

Peter Film

Charisma Caster the fact I made a general statement about fans I dislike and you replied quote me saying it. I didn't accuse you, how am I supposed to find quotes from someone I don't know. What is funnier is you then go on to say "it IS the highest-rated show on myanimelist for a reason" So there's a quote.

Peter Film

Also i was expecting more comments on the fact he's a Fuher from them lol.

Peter Film

WHAT! TIL a decade later

Peter Film

You guys seem confused on the Fake Sorcerer stone. Think more of it off brand than the original. It may do similar things but THEEEE Sorcerer Stone has no limits to which Father Cornelio did push the fake too

Omar Bautista

Also, here's a fun fact I like sharing with people: in the manga, any time a character died, even a villain, the mangaka drew them at the end of the chapter as a spirit floating up to heaven. The only exception was with this chapter, where she drew Shou Tucker going straight to hell.

HamboneKablooey

Not sure if anyone's mentioned it yet, but I'll just let you know something a lot of viewers (myself included) miss the first time. The leader of the military is called the Fuhrer, and his name is King Bradley. A lot of people think his title is Fuhrer King.

HamboneKablooey

Peter, I would challenge you to find an example of me making those kinds of statements about either version of FMA. I have seen plenty of anime, and none of them are "perfect." Which one is "the best" will always be subjective. That being said, it IS the highest-rated show on myanimelist for a reason. It has an average score of 9.14 based on the scores given by nearly 3 million people as of me writing this comment. There are many reasons it's been so successful, but the main one is that it's one of the few shows that both casual and hardcore anime fans agree is genuinely fantastic. That doesn't mean it's perfect, and it doesn't have to be your favorite show. Hell, you don't even have to like it at all, that's totally fine. If you want my opinion, I've gone back and forth on which adaptation I enjoy more. Over the years, my opinion has changed multiple times, but I've pretty much settled on my current stance. After the two series split, they both do wildly different things. The storylines are entirely different, with only a few comparable elements. There are aspects of both versions that I prefer, but at the end of the day, I think I'll always prefer the 2003 series because of the incredibly strong direction and because of the unique situation the show was in. It's a strange thing to have to write your own ending to a series that someone else started, and I think they did a fantastic job with what they had to work with. But Brotherhood is indisputably the manga author's actual vision; it's the story she wanted to tell, and it's still incredible. I have both series sitting at a 10 on my list. And the best part is, once you stop focusing on which version is better, you get to enjoy the fact that there are two different versions to watch that both compliment one another. Watching both is undoubtedly the best way to enjoy the series in my opinion.

Ryne C. Snyder

FMA fans before you pick the show: ITS THE #1 Anime, amazing, perfect after: Yeah the pacing is wack for 14 episodes, there's issues but push through.

Peter Film

i love that people argue FMA vs FMAB as being good and the other trash. Really muddles the water of either being the best anime lol.

Peter Film

Bro from Annoying Boobies to this, whatever happening BTS keep it up these are so funny!

Peter Film

This ep went exactly as it did in manga stop saying its rushed..

PrimordialLife

Heyy you guys said Grisha was the worst parent. Have you forgotten about Rod Reiss? All that he did and was planning on doing.

Elijah

It's the emotional damage episode we've all been waiting for slash dreading!

fr0st

Brotherhood goes through the first few arcs in an express way, because this stories where first shown in the original FMA series. Now imagine that our boys stay with the Tuckers for a couple of episodes, and they're more like a new family to them. Tucker's shown as a creepy guy from the start of this episode, but originally this was a twist you couldn't expect at all. If I was in charge, I'd release a recut combining the fleshed out beginning from FMA with the continuation from Brotherhood.

Tomasz

lol i was fully with Montana's train of thought when she blurted Chlamydia :D and Kenny's subsequent confusion killed me haha

Ci-Ci

Dear God... here we are

Æther Paradox

There's a top ten list of worst parents in anime. They named Tucker #10, pretty much admitting that they would have ranked him higher, but had to get him out of the way quickly just to avoid thinking about what he did.

SweetCandle

I think the "fake" philosophers stones would be more accurately described as poor copies. They have a fraction of the power of a true philosophers stone. Still quite potent, but not what the brothers need. Though I've only seen the older series, and that was years ago.

SweetCandle

That's why I didn't mention the manga. This topic is a bit too complicated to talk about in the comments here, and honestly, I could write an entire essay on just this concept alone, but I think it's an important one to remember. The Fullmetal Alchemist manga was being written as the 2003 anime was coming out. In traditional adaptations, especially here in the west, the two entities are entirely separate, in that there's source material and then the adaptation. But that isn't quite the case here. Inevitably, the manga influenced the 2003 anime, and inevitably, the 2003 anime influenced the direction that the manga went. It's the same thing that will have to happen with A Song of Ice and Fire, if that series ever continues. There's no longer any way to write it without the influence of the general population's reaction to the TV show's ending. It's inevitable that it'll influence the writing. Couple this with the fact that, in my opinion, Arakawa, like many manga authors, improves on her storytelling ability as the series goes on. I think some of the early chapters of the manga needed that additional buildup that 2003 gave them, and that's part of the reason they added so much to them in the first place. In my opinion, this particular arc of the 2003 series doesn't feel bloated at all, and I like all of the changes it makes. Pacing is a weird concept to discuss. In general, there is a modern trend toward blazing-fast pacing, covering as much ground as quickly as possible. This is a style I don't particularly like. I prefer methodical build-ups to strong payoffs, and I think the payoff in 2003 hits harder because of the build-up. Everyone's mileage may vary, but that's where I stand on it.

Ryne C. Snyder

Wasn't the original series having to drag things out to avoid running ahead of the manga releases?

SweetCandle

Ah yes, Nina and Alexander. It somehow makes me more sick the second time watching it.

exhausted

This isn't exactly true though. For the most part, like this episode they are just following the manga, it's the original that dragged it out needlessly imo. Arakawa is generally pretty fast paced with her writing, so what everyone constantly claims is 'skipping stuff because everyone saw the original anyway' is actually just Brotherhood better matching how Arakawa writes and following the pace of the manga. Youswell is all that's really cut of any significance and its not really all that significant, they literally summarised it this episode in 2 lines of dialogue.

ToastyPenguin

Yup. While I definitely prefer Brotherhood overall, it's too bad the beginning feels so rushed. They completely gloss over Youswell, and cut out Ed's own Assessment Day entirely

Eric Smith

"Their plotline was wrapped up so quickly for such a big concept in an early episode." Yeah, that's unfortunately the problem. Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood is a remake of the original 2003 series. At a certain point around episode 14 (of Brotherhood), the stories diverge completely and cover totally different things. But Brotherhood assumes that you've seen the original series since it was so popular at the time, and so it rushes through all the material that was covered in the older show. These first 14 episodes equate to roughly the same material that was covered in the first 25 episodes of the original series, so things are definitely going to feel rushed at times. Shou Tucker and Nina's whole storyline was originally multiple episodes, and it worked much better imo.

Ryne C. Snyder

The episodes get better and better from here on in

Ricardo Lopez

This episode was the darkest from all the series

Ricardo Lopez

Hahaha that chlamydia shit killed me

Jeffrey D

oh yay, more emotional damage 🥹

Austin Wiebel

The Wario guy was the Iron Blood Alchemist, not Scar, the guy who killed him.

Adam Brown

Yup, we just passed father's day and there were so many Shou memes.

imcalledgpk

The first time I watched this show I wasn’t super into it. But watching it w y’all the second time around, knowing what I know, I find it much more entertaining and interesting.

Ashley Garcia

There's 3 episodes left.

Dennis

Montana at the start of the episode: awww this episode is so happy and nice. Montana at the end of the episode: i am traumatized.

Bazil

Ahmad Pattonbey

That aged like spoiled milk in the summer sun

Yuion

top ten moments captured right before disaster struck

Darby

What do you mean? The last She-Ra episode was less than a week ago - there's no real reason to expect a new one before Friday.

Dennis

what happened to shera kinda confused

Ahmad Pattonbey

Shou Tucker. Universally known as the worst father in anime.

edgard

*me also waiting intently for them to notice Jean's voice*

Darby

Ooo boy, this episode! Fun times all around.

SparklingKip

Fun fact: the voice actor for Jean Havoc is the same voice actor for Jean in Attack on Titan

is__

Viz Media (The publishing company that owns the rights to Fullmetal Alchemist in the west) posted a video on their YouTube channel just this past weekend in which Nina Tucker’s English voice actress appeared and gave a Father’s Day message. So funny and so messed up lol.

rupeestarmie

Darby

you unfortunately learned the reason most the questions for this episode featured a "are you ok?"

Darby

Ah yes, the infamous episode 4. People either pretend it doesn’t exist or meme it to hell and back to deal with the pain lmao
