Also, the ‘physical defect’ argument is further weakened by the fact that Horde Prime himself chooses a host body that has two vestigial eyes. Horde Prime’s own body has physical defects. There is no apparent benefit to those extra eyes (if there were, Horde Prime would probably add them to all clones), so Horde Prime seems to be perfectly fine with an imperfect clone body. Theres also the fact that it seems really unlikely Hordak’s physical defects would not have been documented when he was created.

2022-07-09 05:40:23 +0000 UTCMy own take on this is actually that the physical defect thing was just an excuse from Horde Prime, and the real reason Horde Prime cast him out is because Prime was worried Hordak posed a threat to him. Remember that Hordak was Prime’s top general, and in the season 4 finale when they talk, Horde Prime initially seems disinterested in Hordak until Hordak utters the line ‘I bent its people to *my* will’, at which point Horde Prime reacts by going on an angry tirade. There is a reason why all the Horde clones are brainwashed to have no thoughts of their own, no name, no identity of themselves - its because, as clones of Horde Prime, they all technically have the same potential to do the things Horde Prime did (as in, create an empire and conquer the universe), and that is of course a threat to Horde Prime. Horde Prime is afraid of clones with a mind of their own, and he is particularly afraid of Hordak because Hordak was his top general.

2022-07-09 05:31:34 +0000 UTCRemember: Hordak had been separated from the hive-mind for decades. He had arrived on Etheria when Micah was still a youngster, about Glimmer's age. Long enough for Micah to grow a bit more and marry Angella and have Glimmer, with Light Hope using Hordak's portal attempt to help bring in Adora at about the same time. He saw that separation from the hive-mind as a flaw, but as Entrapta told him, "Your flaws are beautiful." That gave him a conflict that he couldn't resolve until he was forced to make a choice. He chose wisely.

2022-07-09 02:53:48 +0000 UTCWhile the physical argument (as presented by fr0st) is very strong, I think that could be a different one based on how Hordak views himself. Maybe this defect that both Prime and Hordak see in him is the defect of identity. Perhaps he kept thinking of himself as more than a clone, more than just a part of the whole. Prime views himself as absolute, so he would definitely see a clone having an identity of his own would as something wrong, something defective. To be fair, I think that ND Stevenson would've taken both approaches on this.

Hordak is hurt and humiliated at being cast out and considered inferior to the other clones and so literally to counter that shame and hurt inside himself, he's hurt so many people on Etheria (and probably on campaigns before he got stuck on Etheria as well). So many people hurt because Hordak was hurting. He's a really interesting character because his pain and lashing out is so realistic. Catra is the same way for slightly different reasons.

We see this when Hordak is ashamed at his body's not being stronger and Entrapta is the perfect counter-voice to that shame in his head for how his imperfections make him worthy and that he doesn't need to propagate suffering to prove himself worthy in Prime's eyes: he already is.
