He goes on that long rant about how he'll rise again and is simply met with "No. It's time for you to go." He gets no epic final battle. His end is swift and simple, he gets no time in the spotlight in his final moments. Exactly what he deserves.

I mean, she said that "She-Ra is a being of pure magic." and she wanted to free Etherias magic from the restraints of the First Ones. AND Horde Primes weakness is magic. Now if we say Magic = Love then we've got She-Ra as a being of pure love, no more restraints from old entities, like the First Ones, like Horde Prime (you could say Prime stands for "the" old world, for old and out of date norms and values, but as She-Ra says: "It's time for you to go.") and Horde Primes weakness was pure love. And as Adora says it: We have brought love (magic) back to the universe. So perhaps Shadow Weaver really started a little bit earlier helping and seeing the bigger picture?

2022-07-26 19:54:27 +0000 UTCI think the big difference between the different redemption arcs of Hordak, Catra, and Shadow Weaver is that while Shadow Weaver did switch sides, it’s not because she actually wanted to do better. Hordak is the in between. He wants to be a friend to Entrapta and I think, while he didn’t get fully redeemed in the show, he could be in the aftermath if he continues his growth. Catra did have a full redemption. She actively tried to change her behavior for Adora. That’s just my analysis and opinion.

2022-07-13 18:36:17 +0000 UTCThose three little words from Catra - "I ALWAYS HAVE" - would put her entire arc in a new light on rewatching the series, right? :) Also, I was kinda surprised Kenny didn't react to how similar Hordak dropping his boss down a shaft was to a certain scene in "Return of the Jedi", both in motivation and view of the fall. I'll put it down to it being a bad time to pause for such observations. :) (Hordak had another "Vader moment" in episode 2x06 - Catra walking in on him while the machines are putting on his armor is very much like the officer who interrupts the sith lord's meditation and sees the back of his helmetless head.)

Sunna wrote 47 different end-title pieces, including such things as the spaghetti western version of Mara's theme for 3x2, and the melancholy solo piano version for 4x9. Yet I suspect her craft here is mostly unappreciated, because almost no-one pays attention to the end credits on shows.

2022-07-10 22:14:30 +0000 UTCidk if any other shows aside from what you listed would be an option for after arcane, but I think you'd like infinity train! its another cartoon about people on this infinite train that is used for them to process trauma/ issues. its also just pretty funny and creative but some parts (especially s3, it's my fav and it's perfect) get darker in terms of loss, familial trauma, mob mentality, friendships, identity, etc... its prob in my top 5 cartoons. every season has different main characters but it does all connect. if you're unsure, the pilot is on youtube! the animation is a little different but it'll give u an idea. it was greenlit because of how popular the pilot was! I think Montana would enjoy the psych aspect of it! I HIGHLY suggest this one! if not, then I vote The Owl House!!

I think she mainly sacrificed herself to get her way, not to save Catra. Also this show has been amazing to watch you react to. I would love for you both to watch 'Steven Universe' sometime aswell, I think you would love that show.

You understood how important the deeper plot was and It was refreshing to watch you have an open mind about the psychology of what each character has gone though and an understanding about why each character acts the way they do. I would love the you to watch the Clone Wars soon. I am barely on season 2 and it is the darkest "kids show" I have watched in a long time. At first I was thinking it was too little kiddy but then an episode shocked me and it keeps getting darker and adult and it is so good. Love your channel!

Harry even named one of his children after the man who tormented him in his younger years, which goes with Montana's 'memories are fallible' statement.

When the show first aired this was a big debate, especially with so many people comparing it to star wars and darth Vader (who I don't think is redeemed through 1 good action either). Also with the lgbtq+ rep they did such a good job and I'm so glad Nate and the rest of the staff fought so hard for it. Because it was done so well it can be easy tk not realize that Nate Stevenson had to fight for the representation he got and for each element, didn't even have the okay for the catradora ending when they began but the plan was to get the Fandom and story so invested in that couple that no other ending will make sense so Netflix and DreamWorks was forced to allow gay love to save the world. And each season more more things are allowed, netossa and spinny don't say they're together until later seasons and you don't see them being clearly romantically close til later and stuff and the gay dads was easy because other shows already did gay parents so studios know that's safe. So glad we got this show. I don't have hope for season 6 even if there is meat on the bones for one as Mattel (toy company that owns he man stuff and far as i understandngot final says) don't seem to be embracing this at all although DreamWorks is so maybe. (There was some push back to the show from people who claim to be long time he man fans and stuff who got upset at the agenda driven reboot so i wont be shocked if mattel saw that as an issue)

It’s Etherian tradition for marriages between people to be tied together by giving one another an article of clothing or adornment that the other typically wears. Think Spinerella and Netossa wearing each other’s necklaces/chokers. In her wish, Bow and Glimmer each have one of Angella’s earrings and Catra has Adora’s belt pin on her blouse and She-ra’s colors over her shoulder. Adora wishes for a future where her friends are happy and safe and married and where she’s also married to Catra (Nate Stevenson actually made a drawing for Scorpia’s first ball with these versions of the bfs and it’s so so good) :) And shout-out to whoever mentioned this, though I can’t remember where now, but Catra’s wearing shoes in Adora’s vision of the future, and what that might mean is that Catra feels safe enough to not have to be sprint ready at a moments notice. She doesn’t feel like she has to run away to be safe, she’s content and happy where she is.

It's been a fantastic ride and I have already gotten some of my friends hooked on it because of you guys and just how phenomenal the show itself is. Last I heard anything and everything for it moving forward has been canceled or on-hold, but a movie or a new season/arc would be very interesting to see. The show leaves you at a perfect stopping point, but they still have to rebuild alot and they did hint at giving the rest of the universe magic as well.

Especially deciding to cover the Velvet Glove (Prime’s mothership) with foliage and a large tree rather than destroy it and having the old Fright Zone covered in lush green. Magic creates. Tech like prime’s destroys when it tries to conquer and subdue magic. But not all tech is destructive, especially if it’s tech that takes into consideration magic as its own free standing entity (Tech like Entrapta primarily creates, understanding and recognizing the individuality of magic in its intersection with tech). It’s such a cool way of balancing magical fantasy and the techno cyber dystopia aspects of the show, having tech and magic be their own almost living characters, magic literally being personified multiple times as a creature and tech being used as an extension of control. One cannot attempt to overtake the other, but working together they are powerful. So good.

I think the magical deposit in the hallway on the way to the Heart was residual magic released from Glimmer activating fhe Heart that allowed enough magic out to portal the planet. I think SW DID take that magic deposit bc she was super charged up and her eyes were glowing while battling that demonic Alaskan Bull Worm. So she satisfied her desire for power and then saved Catra. She met her needs and then was able to turn and recognise others' needs, i.e. that Adora and Catra want/need each other. And the "You're welcome" always rubbed me the wrong bc I can't tell if it's a "youre welcome bc I'm saving you both" or a "youre welcome bc I finally see you need each and am allowing you to be together"

2022-07-09 11:08:15 +0000 UTCAhh the age old adage, ShadowWeaver died doing what she loved, giving Catradora something to talk about in therapy lol But on a real note, this show does such a good job of depicting how different a sacrifice can be despite its overall outcome. Take ShadowWeaver’s direct parallel in the show, Angella. Angella’s sacrifice was entirely selfless. She, the adult, saw the terrified child ready to lay down her life and told her no, you don’t and shouldn’t have to do this. Her last words to Adora were “Take care of each other.” They were words meant for Adora, they were meant for her daughter and her friends. They were selfless and Angella choosing to be brave had no benefit to her, and yet she still chose to give herself up for her loved ones and the rest of the planet. Comparatively, ShadowWeaver’s sacrifice was in some part, I’d say largely but feel free to disagree on this, selfish. She knew she had no place on an Etheria that survived this war, she knew she would never be accepted in like she had been before, not after Adora tells her to her face that she would never forgive her. She knew, and so she did what she could to exert some more power over Catradora and her legacy despite her inevitable end. She sacrificed herself, saving the children under her care (like Angella had) but she’d done it knowing that now there was no way they could erase this moment from their memories of her. Hell, she even got a taste of the heart’s power for herself before doing so. “You’re welcome,” she says. It’s not about them, its about me. The sacrifice that I made. They couldn’t erase the fact that through her sacrifice the universe and Catradora would be safe. And so she remains, eternally leveraging some power even after her demise. It’s genius, and some part of it may have been a desire to help these two girls, there may even have been some regret there, but those last words solidify that unlike Angella’s sacrifice, ShadowWeaver was selfish in her intentions. Also two fun little notes: ShadowWeaver and Angella’s sacrifices are both tied together through the same musical piece! The show does a lot with music and sound and I literally could not recommend 5by5 takes’ video essays about the show more! And regarding Angella, with Etheria now balanced and out of despondos, portal capabilities are fully operational! I’m not sure if it’s Nate Stevenson that says this, correct me if I’m wrong please, but that means that the BFS would absolutely be able to rescue Angella from the pocket dimension she’s been trapped in (being immortal has its perks), and Catra likely would’ve headed that mission herself. A happy reassurance that Angella would be able to return to a safe and war-free Etheria, with her husband and her daughter :)

2022-07-09 06:32:45 +0000 UTCWith regard to Shadow Weaver, I’d say what separates her arc from Catra’s in terms of redemption is remorse. Both characters intended to sacrifice their lives to save Adora, but the difference is that Catra apologized. Her last words to Adora (at least what she believed at the time to be her last words to Adora) were, “I’m sorry, for everything!” Now I’d say that plus the sacrifice on their own wouldn’t be enough to qualify as a redemption, but because Catra survived and went on to continue trying to make amends with the people she’d hurt makes her redeemed. Now look at Shadow Weaver’s last words to the two people she’s hurt the most, “You’re welcome.” She never apologized to them, to Micah, or to anyone else as far as we’re aware. The closest she ever showed to remorse is when she’s trying to persuade Castaspella to help her in 5x06 and she says she wants to save Micah because she owes him that much. Then a few episodes later she’s back to blaming him for the spell of obtainment failing and complaining that people keep bringing up her attempting that spell. And even looking at her sacrifice, it’s not a completely selfless act. She really didn’t have any other choice, as she was going to die either way. Her and Adora were at the Heart, they heard Catra cry out in pain, and Adora pulled away and went back for Catra. Adora was too far gone at that point to stop and think; she was acting solely on her emotions. Adora had the failsafe, so she needed to get to the Heart or Prime would’ve gotten the power and destroyed the universe, in which case everyone dies. Adora wasn’t going to leave Catra behind. So Shadow Weaver traded places with Catra because at least this way the magic gets set free. Also, a comment I’ve seen in a lot of YouTube videos (edit to add—and this comment section holy shit): Shadow Weaver died doing what she loved, traumatizing Catra and Adora.

In an interview after the show ended he said, “My big fear was that I would show my hand too early and get told very definitively that I was not allowed to do this…I sort of had a plan and it was like: If I can get [Adora and Catra] to this place where their relationship and that romance is central to the plot, and it can’t be removed, can’t be noted-out or it can’t be something that’s cut later, then they’ll have let me do it.”

I am personally a major fan of soundtracks in general (whether theyre from movies, series or videogames it doesn’t matter), and She-Ra’s soundtrack is one I keep coming back to over and over. Even the officially released stuff is not sufficient, as there is so much more fantastic material spread throughout the seasons that was not included in the official release. Sunna Wehrmeijer created something truly brilliant.

2022-07-09 05:40:50 +0000 UTCI think the main difference between Shadow Weaver and Hordak (aside from one dying and one surviving) is that Shadow Weaver could NEVER have been truly redeemed, because so much of her 'Evil' was so deeply personal. She could never have been redeemed until the objects of her abuse (Adora and Catra) were able to forgive her, and I don't think they ever would have been able to completely do so. Hordak, on the other hand, was very detached in his 'Evil.' His primary goal, above all else, was to get back to Horde Prime, and everything else, including conquering Etheria, came after that (or was in service of that.) His 'Evil' was not personal at all, in fact there isn't really much he did that could be compared to Shadow Weaver's abuse of Catra and Adora. So the way I think of it, Hordak is like Catra, but worse. He did A LOT of terrible things, and he will have to answer for those things, but there is a road to redemption that he is now on, thanks in large part to Entrapta. And she'll probably be instrumental in his redemption because if Hordak is Catra but worse, Entrapta is Catra but better. She essentially turned on her friends and helped the enemy, and then had to earn their trust back. Catra fought them on multiple occasions, (and, I'll add, is directly responsible for Glimmer's mom's death,) but with time she was able to earn their forgiveness and redeem herself. So ultimately I think Hordak CAN be redeemed, but he'll be working a lot harder than Catra had to in order to do so. I also think that Shadow Weaver's sacrifice is a prime example of the concept of "nobody is just one thing." Shadow Weaver was vile, abusive, manipulative, etc., but she still chose the right thing in the end, and that doesn't undo her past misdeeds, but it still matters. She was almost entirely evil, but she was capable of one selfless act that saved the world.

But then like Kenny said, it was thoroughly set up magic-system-wise that her connection to magic was through love, so of course that moment and that kiss would bring out She-Ra. And then there's the character arcs: Catra finally let herself be vulnerable enough to show her true emotions and tell Adora she loved her. And Adora finally let herself accept love and really believe that someone could love just her. Like, it was so deserved and so earned. The show was truly structured around Catra and Adora's relationship to each other, and that moment had so much buildup and care put into it.

I imagine the way she went out would really complicate Catra and Adora's feelings about her, because it introduces the questions of "was she always capable of this?" Shadow Weaver has spent pretty much all their lives praising Adora and grudgingly tolerating Catra, likely because she was convinced that Adora was the key to all the power stored up in the Heart, and Catra was useless to her. Now SW was at the Heart, with failsafe-infused Adora, and all the pent-up magic of Etheria so close she could taste it, and Adora turns back as soon as they hear Catra cry out. At this point, since preventing Horde Prime from acquiring the power of the Heart is the sole priority, SW knows what she has to do. Bot HOW she does it... To Catra, she offers the words of encouragement and praise she knows Catra's wanted from her all Catra's life. Whether she means it is irrelevant; it's what Catra needs to hear. To Adora, she's just like Fine, here, I saved her for you, "You're welcome." It's almost a reversal of the dynamic Shadow Weaver has had with them all their lives.

Most Legend of korra // avatar fans watched, Shera and then we watched the owl house and then arcane came out last year so its great. Arcane is REALLY intence next to this shows tho, its def not a kids show like the others, the owl house is like avatar or shera that the first season is more childish and introduces the wold and characters but in season 2 it gets dark (Also has a lot of kids with trauma like, alta, spop, lok, aot, arcane all this poor characters a therapist isn't enough

His initial actions were because he was a clone of prime and being controlled. After being tossed aside, he was just seeking acceptance/the closest thing he knew to love. After the portal, he was lashing out from being supposedly betrayed by the only person who ever cared about him. Then he's sort of neutral after learning the truth until it comes time to save entrapta. On the other hand, Shadow Weaver was a seemingly good person that went on to do incredible terrible things. When she was Light Spinner, she was a well respected teacher and seemed affectionate with her students. She fell the farthest and had the most prolonged and purposeful stretch of evil doing so she's the hardest to redeem

The absolute masterstroke of immediately taking away the triumph notwithstanding, the skill it takes to get from Hordak in season 1 to this moment and for it to feel completely earned... boy I dunno, I would struggle to find a better example of a character arc anywhere.

I would watch one episode of Shera and then watch your reaction to it. I am sad that it has finally come to an end but also kind of happy because the next series is Arcane (probably my favourite animated show). Also a minor interesting fact. Shera fans have deduced that on Etheria instead of rings, married couples gift each other one of their personal belongings. You can notice that Spinerella and Netossa wear a pieace of jewelry that matches the others colour scheme and Micha wears one of Angelica's earrings. In the Beautiful Wish scene, Catra was wearing Adora's wing buckle thingy and Adora was wearing Catra's headpiece. Also, I love how in this show we only got gay kisses and not a single kiss between straight couples.

All possible credit to ND Stevenson for fighting the executives for representation and that kiss at the end. By season 5 they had worn them down and explained how important the kiss was to the story. If it was just a matter of them getting together at the end, it would have been like Korrasami - no kiss.

Adora and Catra were going to be affected by her death regardless and again, still not a good parent/provider, but she got to surprise them in good(?) way because it did ultimately save their lives and kept them together without touching the heart

I first found the YT channel because of this series, right when you guys had finished S1. As I watched all of S1 reactions, I really vibed with your dynamic and discussions about the characters, etc. Binged all your ATLA/LoK reactions after and immediately subbed to the channel. Earlier this year, I became a Patron because I was very impatient for the last season, and it was the first ever patreon account I've ever subbed to!
