2024-10-08 04:38:52 +0000 UTCBrotherhood wasn’t rushing the original series was dragging everything out because there were only 19 chapters when they started production, even less when someone said “hey let’s turn this manga with hardly any source material into an anime. It takes 25 episodes in the original because the the story and other characters literally didn’t exist. So they stalled and tried to drag things out in the hopes the manga would get more source material. When that didn’t work out they went to the author and got permission to diverge from the manga completely and make up the rest of the story themselves. Brotherhood covers roughly a chapter and a half per episode to get to this point, while by comparison the original series covers roughly half a chapter per episode to get to the same point and most of that isn’t even canon. You don’t need 25 episodes to connect with and feel sad when Hughes dies because the author did it in 16 chapters. It’s why FMAB which adapts the actual story as closely as possible is universally praised as the better adaptation because it’s not the studio taking the author’s characters and making up their own story

2024-06-08 13:07:25 +0000 UTCThis is probably the episode I most prefer in the original run over brotherhood. Primarily because it happens 25 episodes in for that series so Hughes gets a lot more time to become an audience favourite. It's also just more detailed in the original run because brotherhood was really rushing through these plot points to get to the new content.

2022-07-16 02:52:23 +0000 UTCKenny’s confusion at the start about what is off about Fuhrer King Bradley and Montana replying, “just everything” reminds me so much about Zuko saying that something seems off about Azula before the final Agni Kai 😂😂😂

2022-07-16 02:37:05 +0000 UTCYou really should cut out the moment when Kenny notices the double meaning of Mustang's rain quote. Usually 10%-20% of all comments under this episode are there to mention it. You don't want to miss out on this much of free extra engagement! ;)

2022-07-14 15:09:13 +0000 UTC@ R. Lewis--and for additional hilarity, some translations render his title as 'Fuhrer-President', so there is just *so* much authority packed into one package there.

2022-07-14 06:09:20 +0000 UTCNot sure if you'll see this but I just wanted to mention again the Bradley's TITLE is Fuhrer, and his FIRST NAME is King. It's kind of needlessly confusing, but I know a lot of people, myself included, think his whole title is Fuhrer King.

2022-07-14 04:54:21 +0000 UTCAnybody else notice that the newspaper Hughes is reading about 14.5 minutes in is about the 1992 LA Riots? Lmao thats so odd

2022-07-14 04:20:58 +0000 UTCThe problem with these early episodes is that Brotherhood was written with the assumption that most of the people watching it will have seen the 2003 adaptation. FMA 2003 was absolutely huge, so when Brotherhood came out this was basically right. Unfortunately the general consensus ended up being that Brotherhood made 2003 obsolete, so almost nobody who has started the series since then has watched 2003 first. It's a shame, because while Brotherhood is great, it really does gloss over what happens to both Nina Tucker and Hughes and doesn't give either the time needed to make them land properly. I don't blame anyone who just watches Brotherhood and wonders why on earth people bring those up as huge anime moments all the time.

2022-07-14 03:22:28 +0000 UTCI used to have a manager that looked a lot like Hughes who used to be in the military and would tell anyone who would listen about his wife and his daughter who was about Elisia's age. He reminded be so much of Hughes and I told him that. Apparently he knew who that was and told me not to say that because he didn't want to die. XD

2022-07-13 23:24:43 +0000 UTCYeah I think one of the aspects that the 2003 version does better than Brotherhood is the emotional aspect. Deaths especially Hughes's death are much more impactful in it. If I recall correctly Hughes dies in episode 25 of the 2003 version. So you get to spend much more time with him.

2022-07-13 23:00:14 +0000 UTCActually older landlines were easier to tap. You just have to run a separate parallel pair of wires from the telephone exchange to a monitoring room.

2022-07-13 22:12:33 +0000 UTCYou may already know this but just Fuhrer is Bradley's title. King is actually his first name.

2022-07-13 21:57:31 +0000 UTCAlso for people who might not realize it: Fuhrer coming from the German term Führer(from German Anführer or leader) was the specific title in German history used mostly by one specific man and after him no other... you could say it is quite a loaded title

2022-07-13 21:53:54 +0000 UTCWhen I first watched through I remember being confused, but the title is just Fuhrer, King is actually just his first name

2022-07-13 21:51:39 +0000 UTC"Mustang is smart!" Well, I'd say he's low-key a bit of a genius ... And he's hot as hell. I am a simp, and behold, a pun for Kenny. These jokes write themselves.

2022-07-13 21:31:50 +0000 UTCMan. I'm glad you guys enjoyed this episode but... man. The 2003 version of this episode is just so much better. I wish you guys could see even just that scene, the way it's directed, the music. But alas, this is the point where Brotherhood starts getting good, so at least there's that to look forward to. God I miss the 2003 anime.

2022-07-13 21:22:26 +0000 UTCFor a little clarification, his title is just Fuhrer, King is his actual first name. His name is King Bradley, holding the office of Fuhrer. Bit confusing.
