Im just going to say that most movies and live action shows also do this, it isn't anime specific

Can you imagine, the automail at the Rush Valley Ski Resort contains a grapple for latching onto and riding the lift and then also snowboard and ski mods in the feet

The admonishment being healthy question is a good one but I think the nuance missed by the Letts in the answer is that Ed's admonishment is not for him to necessarily forget the act (obviously he never will and doesn't need help remembering the horrible events referenced) but more a reminder against temptation to himself. As an alchemist, it's easy to take the shorter and bad way to things, such as using human lives to create the philosopher's stone, which gives you the power to do whatever you need. However, it's an admonishment about the last time he tried to go against nature and do things the quick and easy way (get their mom back via human transmutation) and the horrible consequences.

Yeah, it's a thing line with fanservice. On the one hand, the hands on cheeks and wavy body language is established anime language for geeking out or being very excited about something. On the other hand, are there more shots of Winry's ass for absolutely no reason (note an extra one in this ep when the boys are freaking out about the baby coming) than there ever will be of say, Ed's or even Mustangs? Yep and it's gross.

I mostly agree that fanservice is pretty gross, but the thing that I don't agree with is that it's only for men. There are a ton of shoujo series that have loads of half naked men in questionable situations. That's not to mention the crazy amount of BL material that gets pumped out at the same rate as hetero doujinshi. The reason for the big discrepancy is just because shoujo series don't get the same amount of global success that shonen series enjoy, because they don't usually have the big flashy action scenes. Shonen stuff, by virtue of being targeted for hormonal teenage boys has all of those things.

I'm technically the target audience of this, but I have to agree in general. There are shows where it fits a bit better, but for years they've been pushing fan service in everything. That's why I actually disagree with Montana about that scene. In what world is Winry geeking out for auto-mail a fan service scene? I'd sooner agree that the entire design of her character with that extra short skirt is inherently objectifying. If that scene was fan service, then basically every scene with a cute character being cute is fan service, and then this term would loose all of it's meaning.

Tomasz

yeah im with montana (ive all ways been ever since i started watching anime) fan service is stupid. all it does is objectify women for gross men to drool over. it dosen't do anything for the plot or show its there for men which is sooooo disgusting and one of the things i deeply hate about anime. legit every single anime ive watched before ive never seen one show with out fan service, women being objectified, pedophilia, and incest.

Lt. Colonel and then Brigadier Gen. But yes.

I’m excited for the next couple of episodes as they are, in my opinion, when shit starts to get good and real

11 meaning year 1911. They are in the year 1914 if you remember the date on col Hughes tombestone

Just a little note on the horse thing. I think they were referring to a bay horse referring to the color of the horse, rather than a specific breed. (Granted, I'm not the horse person that Montana is, my knowledge on that subject comes from Google) The original Japanese line is supposed to be 生まれる (umareru, which is a verb ending that means being born) but Ed, being out of breath was only able to get out うま (uma, which is the word for horse). Which is the entire cause for Winry's confusion, because why would she care about a horse? Ultimately, this just comes down to a slight translation issue that occurs with every translated show. It's nobody's fault, but just what they have to do to make things work with the mouth movements or what's already animated. I think with them being shoehorned into making that entire interaction about a horse and at least making it semi-relevant in English speaks to the wonderful job the translation and localization team did with this series.

I do love the little bursts of positivity we get in the middle of the darker themes. Things like sacrificing human life to create legendary loot and then just wow miracle of life and showing Winry's a little genius.

Do you guys know about the ova’s? Some of them are important for filling out the story and their is good times to watch them. For instance when you get to episode 30 after you watch it you should watch the 4th ova.

Mortis

I love this episode ❤️ it really set winry up as a strong character and I like that she has her own thing going on. This ep really shows off her strengths :)
