2022-07-19 04:25:46 +0000 UTCHomunculus Trivia: The Homunculus is originally a concept in real world alchemy (especially during medieval times) when the division between the exterior world and the interior world of humans was not yet established in proto-science (natural philosophy). For the Alchemists studying the exterior world, the precursors to Chemists (the word Chemistry is derived from Alchemy which comes from the Arabic Al Kimiya), the Homunculus was part of the "Great Work" the stated goal of alchemists of turning lead to gold and emulating god by creating life by way of the Rebis/Red Elixir/Philosopher's Stone. These artificial lifeforms were usually depicted as tiny humans called Homunculi. The Alchemists studying the interior world used the Homunculus as a metaphor for the improved self of the Alchemist on his way to becoming the Philosopher's Stone (the perfect self), this is where Psychology gets the word from. (So, in a way Montana has a claim to the title of Interior Alchemist herself.)

2022-07-18 22:38:39 +0000 UTCThis was the debut episode of my first tattoo! (well actually, it was back in the 2003 series) I have an ouroboros on the back of my left hand, because Greed is an amazing and awesome character.

2022-07-18 22:17:37 +0000 UTCYou are correct about a homunculus in psychology and neuroscience! Though this anime's version of a homunculus is still based on our universe. Homunculus, Latin for "little person", was a term popularized in 16th century alchemy to refer to the creation of a miniature human, but now is used in modern science as you know now. Most if not all the alchemy in FMA is based on our world.

2022-07-18 19:53:30 +0000 UTCYeah people do like Hawkeye a lot, personally I like her character the best (and this show is already full of great characters). It was also neat how you guys already knew what a homunculus was (even if itβs obviously a bit off from the showβs version lol).

2022-07-18 18:24:41 +0000 UTCThis episode is one of my favorites. I think part of why Greed was so free to give answers was a two part thing. The first, he thought there was knowledge to be gained. Second, he doesn't run with the other Hommunculi. He ditched them and their scheme because it didn't give him, personally, enough. So what's it matter to him if he spills their secrets? Also love how Izumi is, above all else, a housewife.

2022-07-18 18:17:53 +0000 UTCJust to clarify, Ed lost his leg for trying to bring back his mum and then sacrificed his arm to bind Al's soul to the armour.
