2022-11-02 21:11:43 +0000 UTCThe first line is that it's context from FMA that was not in FMAB, but yeah, I did mean Envy, not greed there, good catch!

2022-10-30 23:07:36 +0000 UTCThe Yoki story is in the original FMA anime, and it was Envy not Greed.

2022-10-30 21:38:46 +0000 UTCYeah, it goes by really fast and I get that they thought at the time that most people would have seen FMA or read the manga and would already know about it but I wish they had included it, honestly, since it's another little brick in the whole wall.

2022-10-30 02:38:27 +0000 UTCYoki's background was somewhat included in his small flashback in Conflict of Baschool but it's just a very brief flashback with that little comedic moment of the Armstrong mansion :) basically made him blast off like Team Rocket.

2022-10-29 13:40:26 +0000 UTC(no spoilers below, just context from FMA that was left out in FMAB) Good catch that Yoki (the name of the guy Greed tried to take over and nobody cared) was indeed thinking back to Catherine Armstrong when he was talking about his misfortunes. There's more backstory in the original anime but basically, after his encounter with the Elrics, he tried to steal from a rich-looking family in a mansion that was actually the Armstrong mansion we see in this episode, fled from the strong-looking adult Armstrongs and came across what looked like an innocent little girl playing the piano and thought he was safe and got a piano thrown at him by Catherine Armstrong. I'm sad they left that out in FMAB because it was really funny that he chose to steal from the Armstrongs, of all people. If Olivier and Alex were home, his life would legitimately have been in danger. Also, Youswell, the town Mei is passing through is the same mining town Yoki owned and was basically taking advantage of until the Elrics came around and tricked him into giving the miners the rights to the town and mines. I forget if it's only in the manga or in FMA as well but Youswell is also the town Mei arrived in originally so she has met these same townsfolk before and they have been really nice to her before as well as a child emerging alone from the desert.

2022-10-29 00:27:05 +0000 UTCSomeone by now must have told you guys there are a couple of canon OAVs, one of which shows how Winry got her ear rings in the first place.

2022-10-28 19:25:40 +0000 UTCI don't think it hurts the story too much, but there are a lot of little moments that were cut from the manga that I wish were in Brotherhood. Some of it was in the 2003 version - like a heartbreaking bit where Izumi tells a young girl she can't use alchemy to 'fix' a dead cat - but there's also lots of things that weren't in that version either. Like, both anime adaptations cut Al being furious with Shou Tucker after the Nina chimera situation, and I have no idea why. Or, after Ed dug up what he and Al transmuted, there's a bit in the manga where he gives what they made a proper grave. When we meet Greed 1.0's crew, there are flashbacks to their time as lab experiments that do a lot to humanize them and demonstrate how strong their bonds are as a team. Brotherhood is, overall, a great adaptation. But I truly believe the best overall version of the story is the manga, and a lot of it comes from very small moments that add up over time.

2022-10-28 18:30:24 +0000 UTCI've always suspected they made Brotherhood with the assumption that most people who watched it would already have seen the 2003 version, what with it being so popular. I don't think they thought about the possibility that Brotherhood would make the original anime totally obsolete for future first-time viewers.

2022-10-28 18:23:09 +0000 UTCI miss all the little moments that brotherhood just cut out completely ans May's relationship with the people from Youswell was always one of my favorites

2022-10-28 17:54:32 +0000 UTCShoutout to Shane Gilroy indeed. Might be worth mentioning that you watched it during the the YouTube version though just to head off the wave of comments about it 😅

2022-10-28 17:51:43 +0000 UTCCosmotron already posted a good rundown of why, but the scene with May is another reason why cutting the Youswell episode was a weird call in Brotherhood

2022-10-28 17:47:20 +0000 UTCno its be because he can't harden his shield and heal at the same time

2022-10-28 17:27:05 +0000 UTCI think the scene still works, but in the manga May had actually met the people in that town that tried to help her before. The town in question is actually the one Yoki used to run when he was the proprietor of a coal mine (and then Ed helped to trick and oust him from the position for the betterment of the town). Then, when May is introduced in the manga, it's because she shows up in this town after having crossed the dessert. The people help her and give her some food, and she saves the lives of some miners when one of the mines starts to collapse (and in the manga this is an early indication of how powerful her alkahestry abilities are). The people are super grateful to her, and while she is staying with them they end up telling her about Ed. They describe him as "a powerful alchemist with golden hair and eyes", which of course leads to her initial crush on him. It's only after she leaves the town that they realize they forgot to mention how short Ed is lol. So, in the manga, these are people she has met before. And partly why they're so nice is that they remember she saved some of the townspeople's lives. So it's meeting them again, and once more seeing their kindness, that pushes May to realize she can't just leave and has to go back.

2022-10-28 17:09:47 +0000 UTCThe theory on Greed's ego preventing him from going all out against Bradley is correct, since he mentioned not wanting to use his full armor form due to making him look ugly. It's also a mix of Ling having better combat skills and muscle memory, since the original greed got overconfident and didnt much of a chance for a counter attack, where as Greed-Ling uses his Ultimate shield mainly for claws, and defending specific portions of the body.

2022-10-28 16:53:56 +0000 UTCIt's kind of interesting that Alex dislikes himself for more or less the same reason that Olivier dislikes him.

2022-10-28 16:52:41 +0000 UTC19 episodes left. Revving at Full Throttle really was the perfect name for the previous episode. I know everybody has been saying it for a while, but things are starting to happen, and lots of things are going to happen very fast.

2022-10-28 16:21:48 +0000 UTCam I the only one the likes ‘LinGreed’ over ‘Greeling’?

2022-10-28 16:20:45 +0000 UTCThe reason Olivier keeps calling her brother a coward is because he kind of is. Alex obviously could’ve beaten her in that fight but didn’t because he held back while she didn’t. It’s the same reason she resents the way he behaved during the Ishvalan War. She doesn’t care about the fact that he went against the military’s wishes, but rather she disliked how he didn’t actively oppose the war and stand up for what he believed in. Instead he was just sent home. He’s got a big heart for sure, but in Olivier’s eyes that just makes him soft and being an officer from Briggs she doesn’t respect that at all.

2022-10-28 15:31:56 +0000 UTCIt's been said but also want to clarify, greed also wasn't quick enough the last time and didn't anticipate Bradley's abilities but greedling remembered wrath from old greeds memories and anticipated the strike

2022-10-28 15:25:09 +0000 UTCI love how this is both almight and Nana fighting lol

2022-10-28 15:08:22 +0000 UTCYeah that's exactly it! In the first few seconds of the fight, Wrath instantly cut off Greeds hand, so he had to heal that first, but he kept on getting hurt before he could use his shield. But Kenny was right, having Ling be apart of Greed now gave him muscle memory and better fighting instincts, especially since Ling had briefly fought Wrath. They even showed a couple seconds of the fight where Wrath had his swords in Greed's neck, but then it jumped to Ling being able to evade Wrath.

2022-10-28 14:52:51 +0000 UTCThe day is finally here, can you believe that the rest of the show all takes place on this one day? This is massive stuff right here!

2022-10-28 14:51:37 +0000 UTCthe reason why greed didnt use all of his shield in the last fight was because he want able to i believe. ed mentioned that greed cant heal and harden his shield at the same time. greed also did not know what bradley was capable of last time, so i'd imagine the previous memories of the fight had him more prepped for the fight
