2022-11-29 19:33:48 +0000 UTCLmao I love the tinkerbell reference. Mae Whitman voiced tinkerbell in the 3d animated movie series, one of tink's things was her face getting super red when she was mad. I guess I don't know if it was intentional but I think it's super cute 😂

2022-11-10 05:47:25 +0000 UTCIs there a source for that? The last I knew, Luz is Afro-Dominican-American. I've never heard of the Puerto Rican part before.

2022-11-10 05:19:29 +0000 UTCI know, but I don’t like that reason as much as the cleverness of it coming from part of her name. That’s why I said headcanon and other reasons.

2022-11-10 05:03:48 +0000 UTCI just wanted to let you know if you didn't and if it comes up at one point while you're reacting to the show. Luz is part Dominican and part Puerto Rican.

2022-11-10 01:10:27 +0000 UTCYeah, I love that Amity is not a generic mean girl, but is rather actually getting to know Luz and seeing that she's not malicious, just does ill-considered things. Love the maturity of her acknowledging that Luz is maybe not a bully and that she herself hasn't been super friendly to her either and that she'll deliberate on that.

2022-11-10 00:29:22 +0000 UTCThere is another reason we find out about later, but for now, it's cute and it works as part of her name and she hates it so definitely more than enough reason for her older siblings to use it to annoy her in public.

2022-11-10 00:26:02 +0000 UTCIt's a really interesting discussion about bullying. Given that Luz appears to not really cotton on to bullying, it may work the same way flipped for her in that she has not realised her antics have negatively impacted Amity. She didn't intend for that to happen but it has been an inevitable outcome of her shenanigans and so Amity thinks she's deliberate about it and therefore a bully, while Luz has genuinely not considered it from Amity's perspective before and just wants to befriend someone who seems kind of cool.

2022-11-09 20:12:33 +0000 UTCI don’t think she knows Luz well enough yet to realize that. I think from Amity’s perspective her interactions with Luz have involved Luz helping Willow cheat her way to top student in abomination class, attempting to cheat at a witches’ duel that Luz challenged her to, and now teaming up with her older siblings who bullied her. Again, Amity doesn’t know Luz very well so she doesn’t know what Luz’s real motivations were in those instances. From what we’ve seen at this point in the show Amity’s pretty much only had bullies in her life (the friends in the last episode, her siblings in this one), so it makes sense that her perspective is that Luz was acting maliciously in those moments.

2022-11-09 20:04:15 +0000 UTCI think this is the first reaction to this episode I’ve seen where no one questioned the nickname “Mittens.” My headcanon for the nickname is that it primarily comes from the middle of Amity’s name: A-mit-y. Maybe other reasons influenced the nickname, but I’m sticking with “mit” as the main reason.

2022-11-09 20:01:53 +0000 UTCEd and Em are also really interesting characters imo. Their archetype would usually turn on Luz the moment she pushed back against them, or decided to skip hanging out with them in favor of checking on the person they just wronged, but the twins just accept Luz’s decision and leave her on friendly terms. Right away I could tell they were going to be leading Luz into more serious trouble then just pranking the librarians, but I was definitely shocked when the episode ended with them still liking Luz. Just another example of The Owl House defying expectations!

2022-11-09 19:58:34 +0000 UTCThis is definitely my favorite episode of season 1A (so episodes 1-10)! We see so much potential for Amity’s character moving forward. I loved the phrasing of her last line, “I’ll think on that.” It just shows a lot of maturity for her to admit she was wrong, that she was behaving poorly, and that she’s willing to do some self-reflection. It seems like most people, kids and adults, irl aren’t willing to do any of those things, let alone all of those things, so I think it’s great that that is being portrayed in a show aimed at a younger audience.

2022-11-09 19:55:11 +0000 UTCYeah, when it comes to why Luz really wants to befriend Amity I think the most likely reason is Montana’s answer that maybe Luz senses a vibe that makes her want to get to know Amity better.

2022-11-09 19:44:56 +0000 UTCI love what Kenny said about some people with ADHD not being aware that they’re being bullied because that was possibly my experience in school as someone with autism who wasn’t diagnosed until after college. Like I remember some instances in middle and high school where one of the more popular students that I never hung out with or was friends with would randomly talk to me. They seemed nice enough at the time and my memory of those moments isn’t good enough to determine if there was anything potentially malicious about the interactions, but it’s possible they made fun of me behind my back. I could see Luz experiencing something similar.

2022-11-09 19:41:40 +0000 UTCThis is actually the episode that got me to watch the show. I saw a clip of the "I AM in a library, I WILL read a book! :D" on tiktok and I was sold, lol!

2022-11-09 19:22:56 +0000 UTC"on that grim note-" get used to THAT phrase! The Owl House is a really cute fun show that gets real dark and sad when you analyze it closely. It's why it's so fun to watch you guys react to it!

2022-11-09 17:28:28 +0000 UTCAmazing. I was hoping my question will be picked because I knew Montana will have an outstanding psychological explanation. I was not disappointed.🤣

2022-11-09 16:35:21 +0000 UTCAs far as Amity's claim of Luz being a bully, it's interesting I think to look at their first interaction during the abomination incident at Hexside. Amity from everything we've seen so far is very achievement-focused, especially if you include what we saw in the covention episode where she's very excited by the chance to be in the Emperor's Coven. But back to Amity's point of view in that first meeting... the first time she sees or speaks to Luz, it's while Luz is cheating (Yes, Amity was mean to Willow. I'm not defending that at all.) and Amity loses her status as top student. She doesn't know who Luz is or what Luz is for that matter. All she knows is Luz shows up and gets her in trouble by helping someone fake a school assignment. Again, that doesn't excuse Amity's behavior, but when you examine her perspective and apply it to this episode where she openly admits she's trying to categorize Luz as a nerd or poser or something else, it's apparent that Amity is the type of person who for whatever reason needs to put people in boxes. She needs to categorize them mentally so she understands what their role is. In that moment when she discovers Luz has her diary, she's hurt and feels threatened, so it makes sense from her point of view that Luz is seeking her out multiple times to humiliate her; thus she labels Luz as a bully.

2022-11-09 16:34:21 +0000 UTCI think Amity called Luz a bully because she knew it would hurt Luz to be called something Luz would never see herself as.
