Also a fun little thing: Mustang confirms in this ep that Olivier hid all the northern soldiers in the Armstrong estate. Remember his comment about how you could fit a whole battalion in here when he visited? It seems she sent her family packing to keep them safe, defeated Alex to get him to GTFO and then has smuggled her trusted soldiers into the empty estate. It also sheds new light on her comment about leaving him (Mustang) her estate if she's dead (since she's going into the lion's den, so to speak) because she has more confidence in him than in Alex to do what needs to be done, i.e. the coup. My suspicion is also that he gave her the flowers he did so that she has a very obvious and non suspicious excuse to burn the flowers (and the note that tells her about Pride) to anyone watching them both.

Just a note on something you guys may have missed: there's something a bit unusual about that shot with Buccaneer and co coming into the light as the doors open in front of them.

Olivier is among one of my favorite characters. She’s strong, fiercely loyal, logical and just… good. She’s one of my favorite anime characters. I want to blame Buffy for starting my love for these strong character types! There’s just… something about olivier. Winry looks like a cinnamon roll. Is a cinnamon roll. Izumi looks like she’d kill you, is a cinnamon roll. Olivier? She’s the bear. She will destroy you and you’ll thank her after

A fantastic illustration of the difference between the two sides is loyalty. Mustang's team are insanely loyal to him, and Olivier's troops are also incredibly loyal to her and each other. On the other side you have Father and his children, who are only bound by a common goal in their case, and fear or greed in the case of humans in his cause. The former will never take the kind of reckless action that the latter did in releasing a dangerous component of their plan too early because they're spooked by how badly they're losing. Also can we appreciate the absolute flex it is to wield fire through basically magic and not actually kill a single person? At least Hawkeye can shoot a very specific target but Mustang is literally using long-range fire to ravage buildings and still not a single person is anything beyond injured.

There's a very outdated phrase that my dad used to say "too many chiefs, not enough Indians" it refers to having too many people who think they can be leaders, or take charge of the situation, rather than having a single person take the lead, and the people under them executing the plan. Olivier vaguely mentions Isaac McDougall from episode 1, and the senior staff acted as anticipated. Each of them scattered and are now doing their own thing. If you've ever received conflicting orders in school or work, you know what it's like. As far as what you've heard about episode 51, I'd say it's pretty true. There's going to be so many things happening in so many different areas of this story, that people find it hard to put the show down for any length of time. A different set of reactors I've previously watched said that they basically spent an entire day just watching the final ~10 episodes, because they just couldn't stop.

"You don't know anything about sacrifice yet you're the first to talk about its necessity!" Is such a raw line, it always strikes me.

cosmotron

The man who activated the dolls was one of those military council men and with a crisis on hand and members dropping he decided to activate it, he had access to them but activating them was his own decision.
