Throughout the show, the relationship between Roy Mustang and Riza Hawkeye has been left undefined. Even to this day, nothing has ever been confirmed. That being said, I personally find it to be one of the most beautifully crafted relationships to ever be portrayed in any form. In fact, I think the ambiguity is, in part, what makes it so beautiful. What are your thoughts on the relationship between the two characters and the bond they share? Would you have preferred their relationship be more defined or do you like that it is left vague and up to interpretation? What is your interpretation of their relationship?

2022-12-03 01:00:49 +0000 UTCIt's pretty common for female characters (even badass ones) to be used as easy "damsels in distress" in order to motivate male characters. However, this show never plays that idea straight. Like Lan Fan losing her arm and Winry coming up with the plan to be "kidnapped" by Scar. Here, even when Riza had her throat slit, she still had agency and was the one in control of the situation. Not only that, but it isn't Mustang who saves her, it's May. What do you think about the ways this show flips what could be typical "damsel in distress" narratives on its head?
