Early Poll: Which series out of these two?
Added 2022-11-30 18:25:50 +0000 UTCVote between these two series to let me know what we should watch after FMAB! (We will look at other options as well, I'm just curious which you all would want to see more)
Why i like/don't like Death note:
- From what I gather, its a staple classic, and a mystery which we would love delving into, in addition to having a GREAT dub
- Its short, which is nice in some ways because we can go fast and maybe get it done before AOT season 4 part 2, but not ideal in terms of having a consistent series for a long time, ESPECIALLY with our wedding in June, would be good to know the future is secure haha.
- Like FMAB, in terms of current hype level and excitement for the series, this is an older anime, and I think AOT was a lot larger than FMAB on YouTube because of the current hype for it.
- I've heard the second half isnt too great.
Why I like/don't like MHA:
- As someone who is up to date on MHA, I adore the themes of overcoming crazy adversity and the undying spirit of humanity at the core of this show and think it can deliver the excitement and shock a lot of the AOT scenes also brought, with fast paced new gen animation coupled with FANTASTIC dub acting.
- ITS AUDIENCE IS DEDICATED. Its a current show, so there is a LOT more hype from the general populous, as it didn't end over a decade ago. This means more views/recommendations from youtube
- Because I've seen it, the editing can be MUCH better, as I can know what counters to have running the entire series, Montana would mainly be analyzing which is when our videos are at their best, and simply because I've seen it its WAY faster to edit.
- Its a bit long, but this also means that once we get it up and running it could have a longer time to grow its audience, and we would have a year of consistent work, exactly like AOT
- Some incorrect people think its cringe/bad, and there's a weird stigma in the anime community about those who watch it.
Comments
For all the reason you listed you should just do death note first its presence as a staple means it will always gather a following and by the time you finish mha will be even further through considering how the shows going now the more you see beforehand the more counters and other work you can do.

2022-12-03 18:54:33 +0000 UTCPLEEEEASSE!! CONSIDER WATCHING COWBOY BEBOP!! IT HAS WAY MORE EXISTENTIAL THEMES THAN FMAB!!!

2022-12-01 18:50:45 +0000 UTCDeath Note for sure. It’s a series where the creators knew what it was and wanted to do with it, resulting in a high quality story. Love MHA but gotta give it to DN.

2022-12-01 12:41:22 +0000 UTCIt would take 1 year, we watch 2 episodes a week! For reference, AOT took exactly a year too

2022-12-01 05:04:57 +0000 UTCMHA currently has over 110+ episodes, that would mean it would take over 2 years to even catch up to the current episode this week which I personally don't have the time for. Death Note is the go-to.

2022-12-01 05:02:55 +0000 UTCI won't get into details so to avoid spoilers, but I only know of one single reason people disliked those last episodes. It's because that person wasn't there anymore. That person no longer being there is literally the start of the conclusion. The story had built to its climax, all the pieces were there, and all stones were unturned. Someone had to conclude it with the clues that were left

2022-12-01 04:09:13 +0000 UTCSpeculation time from me: While editing can be faster/more interesting, viewing speed for MHA won't be, so Kenny would also be committing to like a year's worth of little to no participation in discussion. (the counters and editing stuff has never been something I cared about or missed so I might also be a bit biased on) I almost wonder if not doing ALL of MHA in one go would be better. Like MHA season 1-2, then Death Note, then doing more MHA would work (or wait and weave MHA with another long show). But obviously that is mostly an executive decision.

2022-12-01 03:48:11 +0000 UTCYou could always potentially do another shorter show if DN doesn't fill that gap to AoT. I think y'all would find jujutsu kaisen to be a fun series to react to that is also pretty hyped/popular right now!

2022-12-01 03:42:47 +0000 UTCMha is a great series! That said, I can see how DN would be a good fit for more in depth discussions due to the complexity of it. And not sure about what issue ppl had with "the second half" I loved the entire thing myself! Keep in mind if they do it similar to last time, the dubs for AoT will drop sometime AFTER the sub completes. So you may have more of a gap (if you haven't already accounted for that) than you think. I'm down for either one! (And still always holding out hope for the continuation of demon slayer haha)

2022-12-01 03:40:02 +0000 UTCWhile I like MHA a lot, in my opinion it is very much a Shonen fan's Shonen; that is to say, it really hits all the right notes of a Shonen anime and does them really well, enough so that it has almost certainly cemented itself as an era defining anime. But at the same time I don't think it does anything truly unique beyond that. Death Note on the other hand I think does in fact provide a really unique viewing experience and has a lot more interesting complexity to it. If I had make a comparison to other media: MHA is like the "Avengers: Endgame" to Death Note's "Joker"

2022-12-01 03:16:46 +0000 UTCI will say in terms of the manga MHA does feel like it is getting close to the endgame and my best guess regarding the dislike would probably be because of a lot of recent chapters and certain decisive characters in the series.

2022-12-01 03:16:18 +0000 UTCI feel like shorter shows are actually better as well because you can get more new people interested for various shows, rather than a longer show that's not completed. Maybe one heavier show and one lighter so that you have a good mix

2022-12-01 01:49:14 +0000 UTCI think doing Death Note first is a win-win situation. It will really fill the spot/void left by FMAB in terms of discussions and theming. You'll finish it sooner, and can then jump into MHA later. MHA will still be there and be hyped afterwards.

2022-12-01 01:10:26 +0000 UTCI don't know anyone that dislikes the ending of Death Note because "it's concluding." There are legitimate reasons to dislike the ending of Death Note. To be fair, the ending doesn't really bother me, but I feel like your take is a little disingenuous .

2022-12-01 01:03:06 +0000 UTCDeath Note is my favorite anime. And the third quarter is fantastic (It's not really a half). Honestly, I think people disliked that quarter because it was concluding. And disliking something for that reason is a pretty good sign. All that said, Death Note will be your favorite show. I'm pretty sure of it. Based on all your previous reactions and summaries, I can't think of a better show that fits you guys

2022-12-01 00:41:42 +0000 UTCMHA is a huge time commitment to consider being twice as long as FMAB and probably close to twice as long as AOT by the time this season finishes. I think it is a good time to start MHA in general because it's so far in, much like AOT was. I think there's also a real lack of people analyzing the themes of my hero, which I think are excellent, because of the weird stigma around it. So I am all for it all things considered!!
