Awesome reaction. There was no blood in the Selim mauling scene because he wasn’t actually taking any physical damage. Just his clothes. His container is very durable if not impervious to damage. His container only started taking damage after forcing Mustang to open the portal. It weakened him.

2022-12-18 18:26:37 +0000 UTCKenny, you're absolutely right, Ed Blaylock is the voice actor for Wrath, and he does a magnificent job in this and the following episode. May he rest in peace. Montana also had a good question when she asked about the moon opening up. I'm not completely certain, but I'd say it's probably more precise to think of it as the heavens (specifically, eye of heaven, the universe) opening up. The thing we've known about alchemy is that you need a circle, and the heavenly bodies, in their spherical shapes and immense energy are perfect for that purpose. Can't wait for the next episode, you two may have watched it already, but it's blazing towards the climax!

2022-12-17 16:44:10 +0000 UTCThe sun and moon are not only important in alchemy in the show it was also important in the real practice of alchemists which the Mangas creator researched heavily into to create the show. I believe in old alchemic practices it was believed during eclipses alchemy was its strongest.

2022-12-17 16:36:11 +0000 UTCI believe it's explained in a very early episode, but the sun and moon are very important symbols for alchemy in the show, their combination being tantamount to god, hence why the eclipse (sun and moon becoming "one" in the sky) was important for Father's plan.

2022-12-17 16:28:02 +0000 UTCI interpret the significance of the eclipse as this: in regular alchemy, the symbols drawn in transmutation circles act as "codes" to the program that is "alchemy". Here, Father basically went all out and used an actual eclipse (the joining of opposites; the perfect being) instead of just a symbol of it in the code for the massive program that is opening the planet's gate. The nationwide transmuation circle, the eclipse directly above Amestris, the sacrifice-transmuation circle around Central -- it's all part of a massive transmuation that works on the scale of stars, not mere humans or objects. Since the program acts on a "higher level", I think it makes sense that its symbols need to be in a higher level too. And for the Moon-gate, since Father force-opened the Earth's gate from directly below the eclipse, I think it makes sense the corresponding Truth Gate to appear exactly at the spot of the Moon -- it's the zenith point from where the transmutation was done, the spot the Earth's "eye" was staring at when its gate was forced to open.
